Raiders get their pass rusher with final pick

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, April 27th, 2013 at 3:46 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders selected Missouri Western defensive end David Bass with their final selection in the three-day, seven-round NFL draft.
Bass, 6-foot-4 and 262 pounds, set school records with 39 1/2 sacks and 50 starts during his four-year career. He was regarded as the most consistent pass rusher in the East-West shrine game.
The Raiders entered the draft without a legitimate pass-rush end. Bass gives them the potential to solve that problem right away.
Bass started 12 games as a freshman, so he showed that he doesn’t take long to adapt to a new challenge.

every team in NFL owns a piece of the NFL network’s

but they never talk about the Raiders and the Raiders picks, commercial time or

talking about the New York Giants or the Patriots OR the loser jets

I don’t think they know for our teams on the West Coast

Mark Davis: call NFL network and give them a piece of his mind @#$%^&&^%%$#

I hope Reggie brings in Miguel Maysonett at UDFA. Can’t have enough RBs when your lead guy is DMC.

I see a vision in this draft, old school Raider smack mouth football. Nice to be back! Thanks,, Reggie!

I really like the running back we got (Latavius Murray).

Hes big, fast, elusive, never fumbles, great hands, great stiff arm, great attitude and they called him LT…so maybe we can punish the Chargers with our own LT for once.

  • aig-raiders

I’ve got a mancrush for Murray. Kid models himself after AP and I love it. Runs tough and follows his blocker. Oh and he doesnt go down on arm tackles either. 1 fumble in his career vs 6 fumbles in 11 gams for Jones. The Anti-Wantai Jones!!!!

  • lefty12

Nice post,Willy, except they love the whiners and talk about them insistently.

Great Draft for Reggie.. found himself getting 10 draft picks

Yes! I am in heaven. Thanks for thee pass rusher, Reggie. We really, really, really needed a pass rusher. Thanks Cork, good looking out!

Another WR will make it, one of the TEs wont and I think Crawford finds a place.
    ===================================

Could be a battle between Crawford, Bass, and Hunter for 2 spots

I thnink there will be a lot of 2 TE sets ala Pats with
    Kasa-Ausberry and Gordon-Rivera

Watson looks like a nasty mthrrfker finishing blocks….I like him. Get some attitude on the oline….little wiz doesnt have his uncles nasty streak.

That is what I am saying: Watson DOESN’T play with a mean streak. That’s the scouting report on him. He is an amazing physical specimen no doubt, with one year of major college play under his belt. I don’t know if he is worth a mid second, even tho he was slated to go 2nd or 3rd round.

  • ron69

Nickel downs i see Sims and Maiava out Porter and Moore in.
Dime downs Roach out Hanson in and sometimes Burrris bringing the heat for Houston with Moore at the otherside

  • irjonny

I’m ok if Tyler Wilson starts day one. Love Flynn but best man win

    Bushie,
Do you realize that Watson barely played with 2 yrs of football in his life. You do realize that this kid grew up in the streets and readily admits he is not clean cut. This is also a kid who tried professional boxing. WTH man. You like the niners picks. I like them too but they got Carradine and Lattimore coming off major injuries in the first 4 rounds.

So just got home and scanned through about 9 hours of dvr recordings of today’s draft.

Both networks went to commercial nearly every fking time the raiders went on the clock.

I didn’t see one segment regarding the raiders.

    Fk u nfln and ESPn!

    What a joke.

I agree. I have watched both ESPN and NFL Network and unless I missed it I haven’t seen 1 draft recap or even a conversation about 1 of our picks. I wonder if we are still a top 10 team in terms of fan support? If so, we deserve some consideration from these 2 networks.

Look at the roster. I don’t see any players on there I whince when I see them. All solid competition. Still UDFA and could bring in FA during camp. Gonna surprise teams in 2013

So when do we see the DMAC, DMOE, or JFORD trades???

Blue collar, trench workers, sweat building, in your face, Raider Football. Reggie didn’t fall far from the tree. LA maid us puzzies, great to see the foundation being laid to restore the tradition. Get er done, Reggie, I’m in.

You know what? I don’t even stress about the season or the roster anymore. We’ve had so many rosters over the years that looked great on paper and we had terrible teams. Our coaches wanted these types of guys for their systems. They know what they’re looking for more than we do.

We didn’t win with guys like Seymour and Kelly and Huff etc. We need a whole new team so I’m ok with everything thats happening. Not every draft pick is going to pan out but that’s going to happen to every team. There’s only 53 roster spots per team. I’m just staying positive and I’m going to find a way to love each pick until they get cut or prove to me that they aren’t good enough but I’ll give them all the benefit of the doubt.

For all we know, our coaching staff isn’t good enough or the roster isn’t good enough but there are some pretty good teams out there that still miss the playoffs as well. It’s a competitive league. I’m willing to be optimistic.

  • mistic666

Tyler Wilson is your starting QB.

  • Dakota

Either of those tight ends long snappers? Hopefully we got better on special teams with these late picks.

Can’t imagine Reggie keeping the highest paid long snapper much longer.

  • mistic666

Gotta give this draft an A BICHES. FIRST 4 PICKS COU.LD BE Day 1 starters

  • irjonny

Two TE sets is where this offense is going. 3-4 is where the defense is going. Complete turn around

Agreed. Solid B+ I’m generally pleased. Reggie looking for players who’ve overcome some form of adversity in their lives. Brilliant strategy. More exited than I’ve been in years.

  • ohioraider

Imagine Reggie having a bit of the Al renegade in him, only with a modern system in place to develop the talent. I think that’s what this draft points to. Rather stunning when you think about it.

  • http://chasmalloy.com NSRaider

Well the 2013 season begins, UDFAs and the odd FA will be in camp and surprise….the RB -Murray we drafted is a beast. I want Ausberry to be the next gronk…. Welcome to the start…. I look forward to a positive finish. Want to shout out to my Hayward friends from the nation.

  • Al-Davis_Sayz

I don’t understand why he didnt draft big Geathers out of UGA boy 6’6 350 n Georgia Tech had a D Tackle 6’7 369 u talkin bout run stuffers at the nose tackle spot that’s where Reggie sld have went with 2 of them 6round picks….like y didnt we draft 4rm the SEC the Chiefs love the SEC y cant we im happy wit most picks cant lie 2nd round moore 4rm a&m wld have been better n when he went WR sld have been Da’Rick Rogers boy can ball

  • otisphilyaw

(I’m a Raider fan in Sea-Squab country.) I like the draft except maybe for the USF running back. The OL guy is huge and has great feet. Linebacker can flat-out play. Does anyone here think Taiwan Jones could play slot receiver sometimes, like Welker?

  • kuhlest

since the networks won’t give a recap of our team here’s mine…

Haden/CB- not a horrible pick…could be thee corner of this draft once he gets back into the swing of things (maybe revis style)we really can’t speak on this kid til we see him on field….all the media seem to agree he is a 1st rd cb

Watson/RT- good value pick, expected to go as high as #20 to NYG…and he fills a huge need…I like him, he will get better every practice due to his limited exp.

Moore/LB- steal of a pick, this kid will be the attitude of our Def w/ production to match (look for him and Burris to be OLB/pass rushers in 3-4 base)

Wilson/QB- good value again, he was rated to go as high as top 15, and no lower than 3rd/4th, this kid is a wildcard, excited to see how he does w/ pro coaching, he is compared to Favre on nfln, but watching his film he reminds me of gannon…he is smart and a good leader from reports…he will challenge for starting spot.

    later rounds to come soon…

Im glad others noticed that this was happening. Its been like this in past drafts on ESPN & NFL network. They seem to go to commercial right when the Raider pick was in, and you had to sit thru the commercials & watch the ticker at bottom to see who the pick was. When the networks would come back on, nothing would be said about their pick. Those networks do their best to say the least about the Raiders.True Raider-Haters.

Yeah, it happens every year. It’s stupid.

In Round 4 and Round 6 with all the Raider picks, they went to commerical break or had some dumb interview every single time.

Fkn lame. If it was the Pats picks….Mayock and Kiper and McShay and all the rest of the media suck ups, would have been gushing and skn on Belicheats picks.
