Raiders linked to numerous undrafted free agents

Once the seventh round of the NFL draft ends each year, it’s a mad scramble for the Raiders and the 31 other teams to sign a handful of undrafted free agents. So far, the Raiders have been linked to 10, though none has been confirmed by the Raiders.
So, proceed with caution. This is a fluid situation, and it’s possible that some or all of these players, or agents, jumped the gun in saying they signed with the Raiders.
Here’s the list:

OT John Wetzel, Boston College
WR Conner Vernon, Duke
WR Tim Wright, Rutgers
S Dexter McCoil, Tulsa
P Bobby Cowan, Idaho
WR Sam McGuffie, Rice
RB Deonte Williams, Cal Poly
G Lamar Mady, Youngstown State
C/G Deveric Gallington, Texas Tech
QB Kyle Padron, Eastern Washington

Not at all sold on Tyler Wilson. Not sure exactly what the praise is about. Almost every pass I’ve seen in all the cut-ups is within 5 yards of the LOS. Not a great arm or mobility.

I stand by my original assessment. Flynn 2.0.

Wish we had Matt Scott from Arizona or Landry Jones instead.

I am really going to enjoy Preseason. If Pryor improves his accuracy and consistency he has the chance to be starter. The guy litterally has the potential to be the next Steve McNair or end up like Webb in Minnestota if he can not get his passing down. Flynn has a higher floor but lower cieling. This debate will be settled on the field! No one has said anything officially to deter Pryor and we will no doubt sign another QB before camp.

  • eastoaklandraider

Packers and NYG have passed us with 4 SB’s cant have that shlt.

  • jballa1223

We are not there yet however, after this draft we should have improved our situation.

Hopefully we do not go 4-12….

Of course we are going to go 4-12….Maybe worse. Other teams in our division got significantly better and we are just treading water. It’s not to say we haven’t gotten better because I really like what we are doing, but the results most likely will not be there this year. I honestly don’t think that’s such a bad thing. We need another impact player on our team and the draft next year should be pretty dang good. We will have a full compliment of picks in addition to a crapload of salary cap room. I like to be optimistic and in the NFL crazy things happen, but I’m also realistic and won’t necessarily be upset with a poor record as long as the franchise keeps making solid long term decisions.

Taking two tight ends in the same round (6th) sums up what the coaching staff believes of the incumbent talent (Ausberry & Gordon) at the position.

Kasa and Rivera — despite being late-round picks — appear to be the 1 & 2 tight ends.

Gordon adds versatility because he played fullback in a few games under Hubris. Ausberry did some of that at USC, but not in the NFL.

Overall, the draft selections pique my interest.

Hayden has the potential to be a lockdown guy — he shut down Quinton Patton — Melenik is a big bruising guy.

The pick I’m most excited about is Sio Moore. He is one pissed off brotha. I can’t wait to see if that translates onto the NFL field.

I want to see all three — well, four now if the Raiders did sign one as an undrafted free agent — QBs get the opportunity to start.

Seahawks set the precedent — despite having a much higher-paid QB on roster, if he gets beat out by a rook, you play the rook (Flynn/Wilson).

Would it be interesting though, if Tyler Wilson beat out Matt Flynn… two years in a row a Wilson knocked Flynn to the bench…

Anyhow, I’d love to see Pryor, Flynn, Wilson and any others get a legit shot. Whether that actually happens… we’ll see.

I’m going to reiterate something that the TP naysayers either refuse to acknowledge or just hate hearing…

Even if you’re right that TP will never be a good enough passer to be a top flight NFL QB…

For THIS RAIDER team, in TODAY’S NFL, even with his passing deficiencies, he still might be our best option to WIN.

I said this before the RAIDS wisely sent PALMER packing and I will say it again now…

RAIDS win MORE games with TP throwing for 2500 yards, but moving the chains with his legs and his other intangibles, than they do with Carson Palmer throwing for 4500 but folding like an accordion when it counts most.

And of course, if TP can sling the rock, we’re talking FRANCHISE QB.

The TE’s they drafted aren’t gamechangers man. We need competition at that position you don’t go into next year with a converted WR and blocking TE as your ONLY talent at that important position they had to draft some TE’s no matter how they felt about those kids.

You guys sound like teh media you read something into everything when we have a ROSTER to fill out and camp bodies needed. You have to bring 90 players to camp how can they do that if they don’t draft and bring in talent at every position…………get over it!

We needed QB’s TE’s RB’s Oline, every position to fill out a camp roster. Stop with the petty crap about this means that.yoiu don’t know what it means except they got another kid that cna help us if the need arises……………..period
