Raiders linked to numerous undrafted free agents

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, April 27th, 2013 at 6:07 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Once the seventh round of the NFL draft ends each year, it’s a mad scramble for the Raiders and the 31 other teams to sign a handful of undrafted free agents. So far, the Raiders have been linked to 10, though none has been confirmed by the Raiders.
So, proceed with caution. This is a fluid situation, and it’s possible that some or all of these players, or agents, jumped the gun in saying they signed with the Raiders.
Here’s the list:

OT John Wetzel, Boston College
WR Conner Vernon, Duke
WR Tim Wright, Rutgers
S Dexter McCoil, Tulsa
P Bobby Cowan, Idaho
WR Sam McGuffie, Rice
RB Deonte Williams, Cal Poly
G Lamar Mady, Youngstown State
C/G Deveric Gallington, Texas Tech
QB Kyle Padron, Eastern Washington

davis would have never picked austin 1st round…too small….davis would have also went with the damaged CB or ansah …the only difference would have been the davis haters would be up in arms instead of the reggie haters

“the DL and QB position got worse….”

Yes even an average QB like Palmer will be missed once we are mid season but a lot of folks can’t see that yet.

I like Tyler Wilson he looks a lot like Palmer they should have kept Carson to groom Wilson.

    LOL awaits rude counter posts….

Oh yeah, one other thing for all you TP bashers to chew on…

Before this draft there was some talk in here about what TP could fetch in a trade.

The TP bashers said we couldn’t get schit for him, perhaps a 6th if we were lucky.

    Well, let me ask this…

How much of a better passer do you really think EJ MANUEL is than TP ?

You think EJ is a better scrambler and athlete than TP ?

Some clowns in here would dump TP for a 6th rounder while EJ is getting drafted in the FIRST.

    Some real fkng experts here.

Reggie you still gotta prove yourself because you havent sold me yet.

I am with you here and I really do want to love the man he is a Raider.

kind of hoping for Geathers, Williams or Montori Hughes or Margus Hunt..

I would disagree with 4-12. This team is already better than last year and will be at least 7-9 and possibly 8-8

the DL and QB position got worse….the DB and LB positions got better but that like saying you like milk that is expired by 2 days over milk that is expired by 2 weeks….2-14

    =========

It doesn’t matter to him. Al was horrible, Shreg is already better in his eyes than those 3 titles Al had, plus acting as a revolutionary in the process. Every single GM is going to state how they got better in their PC’s today. I’m like the ‘source’ in Mike Silver’s column from Friday….”Show us Reggie”

Palmer cost too much and im sure they didnt want to risk losing him in midseason behind a still developing line, then have no trade value the following year – remember they still have McFadden to re-sign

Will make a lot more sense once cap is finally sorted out in June, and the money frees up for 2014

Agree with you about QB but Seymour is too old and Kelly created too many penalties. He did some good things but he also did some stupid things. I say D line is about as good as last year. I also think the safety position got better and the O line will play better in the Power. If DMAC can stay healthy,we may not do to bad

Why do you guys think you know more than the scouts?
I’m sure all the teams did not get the guys they wanted but you have too deal with.
Personally I think it’s the coaching staff that has to get these players in top form. It amazes me how some teams are able to get players who know how to tackle and strip the ball and make those turnovers. You notice its always the same teams that have those players … hello it’s the coaches and not the players.

The 49ers with the same players got a new coach and all of a sudden they became a power house. Look at the Rams had rookie coaches and they were the worst team in the league bring in Jeff Fisher and all of sudden they are a good team.

Maybe, but not this year and next year I guess we will take a franchise QB in the draft. The real competition is between Prior and Wilson for the #2
    ******************************************
Probably right on the money.I do hope they give TP a
genuine shot at the title though…..kids earned that much. The big QB draft next year had to in the back of RM’s mind.Surprised he picked a QB unless he wasn’t happy with going with two….or maybe he sees something in the kid.Arkansas always conjures up the

This is the same GM who viewed Ryan Fitzpatrick as a legitimate franchise QB.

    =============================================
    That’s true.

But you’ve got to admit dumping TP for a 6th which is what many here would like to see – would be insanity.

Let’s be honest here, even if taking EJ in the first was a REACH, where should he have gone ?

    The 3rd ? The 4th ?

Bottom line – Here’s a guy (EJ) that’s the FIRST QB taken in the FIRST ROUND – and it’s easy to argue he isn’t any better a passer than TP is, and probably isn’t the runner or athlete that TP is – yet people here would gladly discard TP for NOTHING.

The same insanity applies to dumping DMAC for nothing.

Kwame Geathers reportedly inked an undrafted free agent contract with the Chargers.

Chargers signed Georgia NT Kwame Geathers.
Geathers (6-foot-5 3/8, 342) played predominantly nose tackle in Georgia’s 3-4 defense while John Jenkins manned five technique. Though Geathers lacks pass-rush ability, he is strong as an ox and projects as an early-down run stuffer. Geathers totaled 40 tackles — five for a loss — and one sack as a junior before bolting to the pros. He has 35 1/4-inch arms and ran a 5.44 in Indy. He’ll compete for a roster spot with the chargers.
