Raiders select QB Wilson

Share

The Raiders used their fourth-round pick on Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson, soon after the Eagles selected USC QB Matt Barkley and the Giants took Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib.
Wilson is a highly accurate, strong-armed quarterback that stands tall in the face of challenges. Go watch his first meaningful playing time, when he came in in relief against Auburn as a sophomore and almost guided the Razorbacks to a come-from-behind victory.
He replaced Ryan Mallett midway through the second quarter and completed 25 of 35 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns.
Wilson has great poise, leadership and potential. He gives the Raiders the third quarterback they were looking for, joining presumptive starter Matt Flynn and third-year player Terrelle Pryor.
Given the Raiders selected Wilson in the fourth round, it begs the question, did McKenzie want either Barkley or Nassib ahead of Wilson.
McKenzie will face that question at the end of the day. It’s likely that he and coach Dennis Allen will say Wilson is the guy the Raiders wanted all along.
No matter, he’s their newest quarterback.

some keep harping on the issue of whether or not we wanted Barkley or not. What is so special about Barkley?

    ===========

ask Reggie. He was the one who wanted to draft Barkley before the Eagles schooled him.

Phillip Thomas would be the best safety on our team. he would clearly start day one..

So would Georgia’s Bacari Rambo. Love the name and he plays very well.

  • Sorry we do have 4 in the 6th and one in the 7th I didn’t see that last compensatory pick

Oakland will head into the 2013 season with possibly the least amount of experience at the QB position in the history of the sport. We will have 3 QB’s, and they will have a total of 3 pro starts between them. This is a huge risk. This is also an unnecessary risk.

This is starting to seem like a Davis Family draft all the way…a highly rated DB coming off a life threatening injury…converted Boxer/basketball/offensive lineman from the UK/ a LB when D Line was a neccessity and now a QB in the 4th in a weak QB draft…seems like old Reg is more like Al than believed or Mark is running the draft…

And every QB available is either inexperienced, terrible, or would cost way too many draft picks to acquire.

Come on man Reggie had to ship the leagues #8th ranked passing QB out of town because he ruined a #5 rushing team with that zone blocking crap the year before. Nothing like burring down the village two years in a row.

Somehow Ryan Swope is still available? That is stunning to me. I thought for sure he’d go in the 2nd after running a 4.3 at the Combine. Reggie should go up and get him. Can’t see him lasting another 30 picks to us in the 6th. Guy was very productive at A&M. Go to guy for Tannehill and Manziel.

  • Marks hair

when Brett Farve threw the ball you could hear it. Wilsons arm is what most would consider adequate… I see a guy with small hands who will turn over the ball a lot plus he’s a project. Flynn has much better fundamentals. wated pick

  • SilverAndBlackBleeder

Hope we land big Q Dial from Bama – 6-5, 320…Juco kid who didn’t get a lot of starts….still raw, but has huge upside considering limited experience and can play anywhere on the line in 3-4.

Reggie shipped Palmer out because Palmer wanted to leave. No sense in having a guy who doesn’t want to be here. And we both know that at least 2,000 of Palmer’s passing yards were garbage-time throws against prevent defenses.

You mean like Seattle last year? Does not seem very historic to me. Flynn even though not a lot of starts has been through several preseasons and seems fine in terms of experience.

    Sure it’s a risk MR.
But what are we risking? Our spot in the Superbowl or the playoffs?

We’re rebuilding and we’re not going to win many games in 2013 but we are going to be worth watching.
Rebuilding through the draft is the way to go.

With the 2014 first pick of the draft … Oakland Raiders select Jadeveon Clowney.
That’s why Reggie is not addressing the DL this year.
    ****************************
That’s been my guess all along.

    —————————

A GM who’s goal is to be the worst team in the league in 2012. That’s certainly reassuring.
    ___________________________________________________________
He got rid of Palmer when the QB position was not the problem.
Reggie wanted his stamp on the team and this is what happens … seriously other then getting an extra pick it looks like Al was doing the drafting.
