Raiders select QB Wilson

The Raiders used their fourth-round pick on Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson, soon after the Eagles selected USC QB Matt Barkley and the Giants took Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib.
Wilson is a highly accurate, strong-armed quarterback that stands tall in the face of challenges. Go watch his first meaningful playing time, when he came in in relief against Auburn as a sophomore and almost guided the Razorbacks to a come-from-behind victory.
He replaced Ryan Mallett midway through the second quarter and completed 25 of 35 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns.
Wilson has great poise, leadership and potential. He gives the Raiders the third quarterback they were looking for, joining presumptive starter Matt Flynn and third-year player Terrelle Pryor.
Given the Raiders selected Wilson in the fourth round, it begs the question, did McKenzie want either Barkley or Nassib ahead of Wilson.
McKenzie will face that question at the end of the day. It’s likely that he and coach Dennis Allen will say Wilson is the guy the Raiders wanted all along.
No matter, he’s their newest quarterback.

wilson=flynn with smaller hands and weaker fundamentals.. needs alot of work… should have grabbed an impact player now and a vet qb later. Phillip Thomas is a ballhawk.. gaffe

Reggie wanted Palmer out … Palmer did not want to leave.

    ==========================================

Then why did Palmer refuse a paycut with us, but agree to one with the Cardinals?

    ——————–

Palmer wanted out. I can tell you that as a fact.

    …..
Because the Raiders have NEVER developed a QB in their history. Granted, this is a new era without Al. But so far, the current reggime has completely dropped the ball on the TP6 project so what makes us think we are going to give Wilson any better a shot?….

    ******************************
What are you talking about? I get Hue totally dropped the ball. I read the TP article about how he never talked to Hue and got zero attention and then they try to plug him into a game??? But it seems to me the new regime got him into the flow and he looked prepared to play when he started in SD. No one can suddenly cause Pryor to be accruate and consistent. I think they are bending over backward to give him a chance and be encouraging and helping him develop. Some on this board will never be happy unless we start him for 6 games whether he is ready or not.

    Palmer refused a paycut because–
    (a) He had just restructured for McKenzie and McKenzie wanted to restructure his own contract and
    (b) Palmer didn’t really want to come back because he saw that McKenzie was getting rid of the players who might make a difference.

That said, I don’t give a rat’s posterior. Palmer’s not a Raider any more so he can get fuk’n lost.

    Agree entirely.

And I hate QBs with small hands. Im not big on judging players on measurables. But small hands really hinder a qb. Rex Grossman comes to mind. Good worker. Great leader. Small hands cost him a SuperBowl.

Gruden doesn’t like Wilson, Gruden was laughing in Wilson’s face, asking him why he’s such a sissy on tape when he’s supposed to be a tough guy. Watch the QB camp. Most of the highlights were of Wilson on the ground crying after getting hit.

    You’re so full of crap.

    Gruden:

“You can’t help but like Tyler Wilson. He’s one of the TOUGHEST guys to play the position… TOUGH mentally. TOUGH physically.”

    Gruden to Wilson:

    “You’re a tough sonofab!tch, aren’t you?”

“I don’t know how many guys could stand in there and make this throw.”

“Here’s what I learned. Number 1, you are one TOUGH guy… rare TOUGHNESS and rare courage…”

If McKenzie wanted Nassib he would have just drafted him instead of trading back. He may have wanted Barkley though. Didn’t think we needed another QB myself. Hopefully, Wilson turns out to be something special.

I’m convinced that we are avoiding DL because Reggie is pretty confident that he’ll be selecting Clowney 1st overall next year. Tough time to be a Raider fan right now.

    Whoops–”clarifying.”

And, I’m really good with the Wilson pick. Reggie said you build in three ways: getting talent, talent that has character (guys who want learn what it means to learn their craft in a professional manner), and making those guys compete for spots.

Green Bay went got Lacy, then proceeded to add another running back.

As a team w/out an established qb, Reggie is making the guys at that spot show him they deserve the top spot–no automatic starting roles. I really like that.

Flynn has been served notice by Reg: “I like you, I think you have talent, but you have to show me you are better than the guy I just drafted.” Similarly, he has said to the guy he just drafted, “You gotta earn this and learn your craft and get better.”

I don’t what he just said to TP except, “I want you to do more than hold a clipboard and wear headsets–I want our OC to use you in novel ways for the team.”

All 4 picks in the 6th need to be Defense. I would like to see 2 DT’s, 1 DE & 1 Safety picked. Then again, Reggie will probably pick BPA’s and they will be RB, WR & TE

    ———

Our season was over by week 10.

Pryor should have started the final 4 games to evaluate where he is and where he is going.

If he pans out, we never have to trade picks for Flynn. We dont have to spend money on Flynn. And we dont have to waste a pick on Wilson. We could have just signed VY as a cheap backup.

Instead, we got just enough of a taste of TP6 to be teased. We have wasted a ton of picks in the last month on the QB situation. And we dont have any idea who our starter is going forward.

Had TP6 not shown improvement over the 4 games to warrant further development, then we get Flynn and everyone is 100% behind it. And we know exactly what TP6 is or wont be and maybe he moves to WR willingly.

But instead no. Just wasted picks, wasted opportunity, and more questions than answers at this point. The fvcked it up last year. No way to argue it.

The very fact that they considered and WANTED to start Leinart towards the end is all the evidence you should need.

They did draft and develop Kenny Stabler, although that was a long time ago. I am sure Reggie will give Wilson the chance to succeed because he is his guy. He drafted him. Reggie doesn’t seem to care much for guys from the previous administration.
