Raiders take a look at veteran WR, return specialist

The Raiders met with veteran wide receiver Joshua Cribbs in an attempt to gauge his interest in joining the team, according to a report.
Cribbs, 29, spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns, primarily as a kick and punt returner.
He caught 107 passes during that time and rushed 128 times in amassing 1,914 yards and nine touchdowns.
Signing Cribbs would give the Raiders another viable option at kick and punt return, two problem areas last season. The return of Jacoby Ford from a foot injury also is expected to provide a boost in both areas.
Cribbs returned eight kicks for touchdowns for the Browns as he stamped himself as one of the game’s top returners.
In other news, the Raiders invited fullback Jared McGriff-Culver to try out for a roster spot at this week’s rookie mini camp in Alameda. McGriff-Culver went undrafted out of Missouri.

    O,

QB’s drafted in the mid rounds often times don’t get much more of a chance than Pryor did.
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It depends on the starting QB.
If he plays well, then you don’t need to give your backup mid round QB a lot of reps or chances.
If he doesn’t play well, you need to find out what that mid round QB can do before you draft another young QB.

Cribbs reportedly has offer from #Raiders. But he is still visiting teams. Looking for better offer. Doesn’t mean he will get it.

  • RaiderRockstar

    “Looking for better offer.”

    @inonewordraider

My hope is that the Jets & Giants don’t make him an offer, scared off by his knee injury and any possible lingering effects

I’m just glad honestly that Reggie brought him in and made him an offer. As a fan, that’s all I can ask for. our return game has stunk since Higgins

  • JLofty

We need a decent OR Great PR. Jacoby sys he’s gunna but he is not particularly dangerous returning punts. Unless the part of him catching them is considered.
Cribbs is a proven bomb waiting to go off back there.

Hiring Knapp is not a rookie mistake. It’s just stupid.
Lies and putting the blame on players is not a quality of a good coach.

Still laugh at a commenter @ SandBPride saying the Knapp hire was srike two for DA. When asked what strike one was, he replied “Same thing”.

    LOL
Now the question is when the 3rd strike will come?.

How can he offer him any more? We only have ~60M under the cap next year.

  • The_Judge37

Looking at Wilson’s game vs LSU, he’s a straight dink and dunker. All of his deep throws are underthrown. The only one that was successful at 8:55 was lucky to have DVD like coverage because if the CB looks back for the ball it’s a pick.

    On Pryor…
I liked what I saw in San Diego. Great leader and great wheels. Sure it’s a little unorthodox but isn’t that who the raiders are?
    ________________________________________________________

unorthodox is alright, but it doesnt necessary smart, i rather us to be smart and clever – than laughing stock..

what i saw in SD, was not very good, he had two gears so to speak. 6yd down the field or 1000yds down the field..

let me ask this, how long are you guys willing to let him have his training wheels on? how long are you guys willing to offer a rosterspot for a guy that does not contribute anything?

either he has it or he doesnt, the reason he isnt cut or converted is because it would be bad PR. He is tha last Al-pick, and Al wanted him to be QB.. thats pretty much the end of the story.. had he been drafted by SF, Ravens, Steelers or others he would have been converted long time ago..

I don’t think King will be our punter.

Can’t hold and can’t kick anything other than boomers.

He has a great driver, but no iron game.

  • Gdog

Word is that Cribbs was offered a one year contract for $1000 and a warm cup of soup by Reggie.

For some reason he is looking for a better offer…

  • inonewordraider

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Cribbs passed a physical for his knee during his Raiders visit and that the Raiders offered Cribbs, 29, a contract.
Cribbs, a three time Pro Bowl selection, has eight kickoffs returned for a touchdown, a tie for most in NFL history with Leon Washington, the former Jets returner. He also moonlights as a receiver, but only has 107 catches in eight seasons.
