Raiders draft picks assigned jersey numbers

The Raiders selected 10 players in the NFL draft in late April. On Thursday, those players received their jersey numbers in advance of the rookie mini camp this weekend.
Of note, defensive tackle Stacy McGee received veteran defensive tackle Richard Seymour’s old number, which throws water on the possibility of the Raiders re-signing Seymour.
Also, linebacker Sio Moore now is wearing the jersey number sported by middle linebacker bust Rolando McClain the past three seasons.
Here’s the complete list:
CB D.J. Hayden — 25
OT Menelik Watson — 71
LB Sio Moore — 55
QB Tyler Wilson — 8
TE Nick Kasa — 88
RB Latavius Murray — 34
TE Mychal Rivera — 81
DT Stacy McGee — 92
WR Brice Butler — 19
DE David Bass — 51
Those 10 players, as well as the 14 undrafted free agents and eligible first-year players are expected to participate in the three-day mini camp that begins Friday. The media are allowed to attend Saturday, at which time we will post several stories and Tweets.

Having a 2-14 team kinda makes it hard to get blue chip free agents, even with 70 mill in cap space. Especially with Reggie refusing to pay over market value…
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Not sure why Reg would want to spend over market value.

    >>>

Because thats how bottom feeder teams get good free agents. Otherwise they will take market value or often time MUCH less to go to a SB ready team.

Well then I’m glad Reggies plan is to build threw the draft with some reasonably priced FAs

I don’t think you can judge DA yet as he didn’t have a lot of talent to work with last year.
    =============================================
That’s because you don’t know football.

You sure as heck CAN judge a HC even when he’s working with a talent starved roster.

A good HC manages to get the most out of his roster.

He manages to avoid getting BLOWN OUT on an almost weekly basis.

Me might not be able to WIN many games, but he will be competitive.

Astute fans can recognize when a team is focused, well organized, and prepared – even if the talent isn’t there.

Astute fans can recognize when there’s innovative scheming, timely adjustments, energy and a sense of purpose and direction.

You sure as heck CAN recognize a HC doing a stellar job with a less than formidable roster.

You can also recognize a HC doing a lousy job with a lousy roster.

Well, at least some people can.

There’s quite a few idiots that think TITS should get 4 years no matter what.

Couldn’t possibly judge him before that.

They re-signed 33-year old Andre Carter and were ready to sign 34-year old cornerback, Terrance Newman as well. This obviously wouldn’t be a match that would last very long. But, he wants to extend his career and the Raiders want to be competitive this season.”

Guys that play linebacker at major colleges and make an NFL roster, however briefly, probably don’t scare that easily.
Rolando probably not stupid enough to even touch the coach. He does, and poof, not a dime more in NFL money.

I think there is a good possibility. Lots of open spots for starter positions. Overpaid half azz producers are just about gone (1 left) If the staff puts the players in a position that fits their skill set like they say they say they will.

  • RAIDERMAN99

That was quite a staff that TITS ALLEN assembled last year, wasn’t it ?

So good, that he had to dump virtually all of his hand picked staff.

Oh yeah, TITS knows what he’s doing.

He was a DB coach for Sean.

    DC for John.

Absolutely, there are a lot of new players here that have great work ethics and some are on 1 year deals that will be playing for new deals after the season. Plus the hold over players see that there is competition everywhere and will respond well. I saw that last year as players were playing hard and disciplined.

You can’t compare a football roster to other sports…

NBA roster size – 15: Just a couple of roster moves can affect the fortunes of a team. Each player has more of an impact.

MLB roster size – 25: It takes a few more moves to change the fortunes of a baseball team, and they also have 3 levels of minor leagues to help them.

NFL roster size – 53: The NFL is the ultimate team sport. One, two, or three players have minimal impact. It takes many players buying into a team concept to be successful.

  • Just Fire Baby

No 3-5 year plan with the Dubs?

So they didn’t draft Steph 4 years ago and trade for Lee 3 years ago? They didn’t get rid of everybody from the 2007 season, in 2008 and 2009?

They completely tore apart the 2008 team that won 48 games, drafted Curry and have been on a 4 year rebuilding plan ever since.

    WTF are you smoking?

We’ve tried changing coaches so many times. It’s time to stop that and give a coach a chance to build a program here. That way if DA doesn’t work out in a couple of years we have a system in place and can try a new coach that fits our teams philosophic view. The raiders were great because they had an identity which we lack now.

  • Priesttj12

He got the job midyear tho. His first full year he went straight to the division title. He didn’t need a 3-5 year plan and neither do the Raiders if they know what thehell they’re doing. It doesn’t take that long no matter what your situation is in this era of sports.

Mr Davis took a moribund franchise and had the biggest turnaround in sports history at that time. From 1 win to 10 wins in one year. If you can coach you can coach and it is VERY obvious immediately.

This is why you just don’t get it. Half those kids were nondescript players. Melvin put it together, same as Jackson has the Dubs. Nellie would never have played these rookies the way Jackson has. nellie would never instill confidence the way Jackson has.

Managers and coaches mold talent and make it gel a collection of talent is just that it takes the right coach to make it work. That is why Phil Jackson has 11 titles and Nelson doesn’t have one. It’s all in how you use and nurture young players. Nelson’s ego wouldn’t allow young talent to grow while Jackson puts them in situations they can handle and continues to biuld their confidenc in themselves. Nelson would take this same talent and screw it up royallly.

Sure they do but the teams that have a way of doing things and have a strong philosophy find a coach that has the same basic views as the team and builds continuity. If you keep changing coaches all the time you don’t build the foundation that produces winning. It didn’t work with All and it won’t work for us.
