Raiders sign standout kick returner

The Raiders on Wednesday signed wide receiver Josh Cribbs, giving them a versatile player that can bolster their receiving corps as well as their return game.
Cribbs visited numerous teams in recent weeks, including the Raiders. Ultimately, he opted to join a team that is in a position to make use of all his talents.
“I am blessed to have the opportunity to prove myself yet again!” Cribbs said via Twitter. “Fresh start. New team, new chip on my shoulder!!!! Love u Cleveland but now it’s #2013RaiderNation.”
Cribbs, who turns 30 on June 9, spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns, where he developed into one of the game’s most productive kick and punt returners.
His eight kick returns for touchdowns are tied for the most in NFL history. He also amassed 1,914 yards and nine touchdowns rushing and receiving for the Browns.
Cribbs gives the Raiders another viable option on kick returns, with Jacoby Ford back from a foot injury that sidelined him all of last season. Cribbs also fills a huge void on punt returns, an area in which the Raiders struggled in recent seasons.

    I’m graceless :(

The way I see it right now 5 of Moore, Streater, Criner, Butler, Vernon and Holmes make it and 1 of Cribbs, Ford, McGuffie (PS much more likely) and Jenkins (see McGuffie) make it.

Looks like Denver passed on CWood, just like San Fran

    Hmmm….

    I hope Reggie didn’t offer much $$$

    he has no other suitors!

If he still refuses to come here, you guys should just burn those old jerseys of his you bought

    765. Worst NFL owner since the early ’90s. There is no debate.

    ===========

Bullchit, there’s an AFC title in there plus several playoff berths & competetive football in there. Please, go do some research.

and if I were to pick a moment when Al Davis lost the magic touch…

it would be when he essentially traded Jim Lachey for Jay Shroeder…

a future all-pro tackle for a flash in the pan quarterback…

    =======

We can thank Ron Wolf for that one.

  • Just Fire Baby

I wonder how many AFC teams didn’t make an AFC title game in the 90′s.

Know the Patriots, Raiders, Bengals, Bills, Chargers, Colts, Steelers, Broncos, Chiefs all did.

Hell the expansion Jaquars made two!!!!!!

    ————————–
At this hour, this will likely just be rambling.

I have very little trust in Ford as a WR and as a player that can stay healthy. Teams were still wearing leather helmets the last time Ford was on the field for a regular season game. Lisfrancs are brutal to come back from and he’s just missed 2 season because of them. There is no certainty he is anywhere close to what he was his rookie season.

Maybe Ford can come back and be a superstar, but I doubt it. I think it’s more likely that Vernon runs the best routes and has the best hands on the team. I don’t know much about Holmes, but from the little I’ve heard, he could be in the mix if Butler or Criner prove inept.

We need a returner and Ford is in the mix there. At WR I’d rather have those top 6 guys I listed.

  • Just Fire Baby

Titans, Jets and Dolphins all as well.

I think in the 90′s there were only a couple of teams WHO DIDN’T make an AFC championship game.

Everyone in our division made one. And nobody lost 51-3.

  • Just Fire Baby

Going back through the list, I believe the Seahawks, Ravens/Browns were the only two AFC teams that didn’t go to a conference championship game in the 90′s. Might be missing one or two.

  • Just Fire Baby

Pretty geeked about the Cribbs signing.

Turning a weakness into a strength.

People also forget Cribbs is one of the best in the NFL in COVERING kicks and punts as well.

Really, really improved the team with this signing.

And I don’t think he will play much more WR than Hagan played last year.

  • Just Fire Baby

Anyone else think we brought in Cribbs to mentor TP on a position change?

  • Charlie

Cribbs is another late in his career guy looking to play a little more football.
Nothing more. Maybe he can help this season.

Reggie is simply doing the best he can to fill some holes till he can draft more ball players.

The McClain case is just another example of the total pile of crap roster Reggie and DA inherited with the Raiders. The $50 million in dead money this year points to the horrible cap management that was in place in 2011.

Just looking at the guys we have cut the last two seasons and where they are today and at what salary says it all.

  • nycraider

our defensive line is ranked worst in nfl. our linebackers are ranked worst in the nfl. makes sense to get the best kickoff returner out there. he will be very busy.
find it comical how reggie supporters continue to just reference the excuses. None of them point out that Reggie in his first 5 draft picks this year , used only 1 for the offensive line. 0 for the DL. guess that was because of all the dead money right?
Also lets not forget Reggies role in this years dead money. his poor decisions with Seymour and Palmer last year contributed significantly to this years dead money.
    When will Reggie be accountable?

  • Just Fire Baby

He turns 30 this year, and having been mostly a ST’s guy over those years, doesn’t have as many miles on him as a position player.

I think Cribbs is going to give us a HUUUUUUUGE boost in the return game.

Just hoping Cribbs is 100% healthy by camp.

Bobby April and Cribbs should make our return game a weapon once again, we’ll need field position to help the offense, with Jano still kicking it looks like the “offensive” part of ST’s will be much improved.

  • http://000 Bob Marley

Of course, Cribbs still need the blockers to open up lanes for him to run those kicks back, that’s going to be April’s job.

You are delusional. Sorry but you do not seem to contemplate the absurdity of our situation over the last decade. I have pointed out on numerous occasions the things the Raiders had done that made them a joke in the NFL regarding the draft and aging FA signings to ridiculous one way contracts and trading high picks for retired players and you still do not get it.

This is a minimum 3 year fix.
Lack of picks, a horrible roster and ridiculous contracts were something Reggie and DA inherited.
That is why they have 4 year deals.

I repeat again, where are the players we have cut the last two seasons and what is their salary if they are even in the NFL?????
That and $50 million in dead money and you still call that reality an excuse?????

Only Bryant (arrested after becoming a FA), Wheeler and Bush signed for more money and Bush was horrible last year for the Bears.

Rain……not sure if I know what that is anymore.

Charlie, i m surprised you can type through those blinders you wear for glasses. First of all you choose to always ignore Reggies poor decisions. He made many mistakes such as giving Seymour a new contract, restructuring Huff last year that hurt us big time this year, the Palmer restructure. Its funny bc we were in such horrible cap space yet he signed the biggest 2012 FA bust in Briesel to a 20 million deal.
Do you remember how you would post the same post over and over, saying Reggie knows the value of building the DL and OL. you guaranteed our first draft pick would be on the line and that Reggie would use the draft to build of trenches. Well Reggie didnt do that, in fact no DL picks until late in the draft.
Why cant you focus on want decisions Reggie makes? You have no problem talking about Al’s. Yet many of Reggies decisions last year and this year look to be failures. Remember Charlie, you said the Raiders will win 7 games this year. Someday, you will actually have to man up and admit Reggie makes mistakes. Its easy to cut salary, the test of a good gm is his ability to rebuild. He has not made our DL better. in fact its the worst in Raider history at this point.

Cribbs LAST SEASON had his 2nd-best punt return average ever and his 3rd-best KO return average.

Not over the hill if he heals.

  • SnBG

Idonije and Abraham are still on the market. One of those guys could help us this year. Raiders have an offer on the table for Woodson. If Denver doesn’t sign him then Reg made the right decision to offer him what he did. Whatever that is.

  • RNOraiderFan

Damn Alex, that’s some good news! All the nay sayers will rebuff it tho. How old is Cribbs? I think he is only 30. Still young enough to get 5 good years of returns.
