Woodson in the house, still meeting with Raiders

Beat writer Jerry McDonald has been in Alameda monitoring the situation as defensive back Charles Woodson meets with the Raiders and contemplates whether to re-sign with the team that selected him in the 1998 NFL draft. No word yet on how this is going to turn out, but McDonald is doing his best to keep you informed. Here’s a link to his latest story:

Seymour was a much better player and leader for us than Sapp. Come on, now. Seymour had a couple of Pro Bowl years with us and deservedly so. His knees really started to give out on him the last year and half. That’s what happens to 300-pound DTs on the wrong side of 30. I don’t think his lack of practicing was him dogging it or anything. His body was just breaking down and the smart thing to do was save what little he had left for Sundays and not leave it out on the practice field.

I bet when Charles was in dOnkey land he was just sizing up peyton’s fat head an ego for a future smack down!

dr hunter and a list of others said he’d never sign here

SAappp? Sapp is a sieve and a fish eyed fool. The only thing good he did as A Raider was cash checks and keep his mouth shut.

Then when NFL wrote his check he became the anti Raider, someone who would say anything for a laugh.

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Easy. I’m not defending Sapp. I’m just saying him and Seymour were basically the same. Probably a little more production from Seymour. And probably a little more leadership from Seymour as well. But basically the same thing. And Seymour cost us a number one.

  • RaiderLen

Sapp was better for us. The team at least had some heart in the warren sapp days.
    ————————————–
Sapp still has an agent? Posting on a Raider blog?

Sapp is a great example of a check casher.

To bad Al decided to bring His ass into Oakland in the 11th hour.

Not that it would have mattered.

I recall Sapp endorsing to Al that Tommy Kelly was the Schit, and we all know how that turned out.

Sapp and credibility are ships passing in the night.

  • spiff

if jenkins or adams can cover in the slot it’s a wrap. one of the best secondaries in the league.
i’m thinking will have good lb play. if we establish a good even a decent pass rush we’ll have a pretty good defense.

Reggie is keeping the tradition of the last chance bus stop for players nearing retirement. Hope the dude isn’t a distraction to the young team. Anybody that thinks Reggie or DA can’t do no wrong needn’t look back but to last year.
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Ho hum, last year is over. Move on. Your post bored me and made me drowsy. Going to bed. Good night nation.
    Go Woodson.

    ========

So last year doesn’t count on their resume?….Yeah a level-headed response is so boring on here.

  • Marks hair

ive been killing zombies. I guess its done and we can move on to calling abraham?

  • 0ak r8rs

I’m not letting Seymour vs Sapp fight ruin this night. FACK both of those guys. I’m happy we got Woodson. It legitimizes our direction. It doesn’t save this team. I’m a realist. We still may only win 4 games. But it just feels like the players r buying in. And now the FAs too. Football players not check cashers. IT’S ABOUT FACKING TIME!!!

i think seymour made the probowls on clout. he would always do stupid penalties at the wrong time. wasn’t worth 1st.rd pick we got suckered out of. should have took wolfork.

  • inonewordraider

shoot, i’ll take seymour on the cheap

  • beechraider

didnt sapp have 10 sacks in 2006 the year burgess had 11? not sure what seymour had for a high with respect to sacks but since no one has had 10 since 2006 , seymour may not have performed as well as sapp in that area. Seymour very inconsistent, except for punching big ben never considered him a leader

  • Chris in NY

The thing I like most about this signing is that Woodson will be the QB of our defense. Typically that’s your MLBs role but lord knows that wasn’t RoMac and none of the new guys has that kind of gravitas to take on the role right away either. This signing can bridge the gap till new leaders on the D emerge.

Still need an edge rusher though. Raiders are woefully barren at that spot again this year. No consistent pass rush = awful defense no matter how you slice it.

  • RaiderLen

Woodson brings swag and experience to the locker room.

He’ll also be able to participate in Practice (Seymour), and by His presence instill a bit more confidence in the DB group at a minimum.

All Sapp did was try to accumulate sack stats though. He often bailed on his other responsibilities to do so.

Sapp never played as well for us as Seymour. Seymour was extremely limited for us with injury the last season and a half but prior to that he played really well.

This. I agree as well. You would always hear people say, ” oh the dominant Raiders defensive line, bla bla bla.” Then you would have another no name running for 600 yards or a hot dog vendor throwing 8 TDs and running for 2. It was all on clout.

And I was a little harsh on Rich. I was a huge supporter of his. Just a little disappointed on how things turned out.

  • Cervantes74

Hall of Famer. Last of the Great Raiders. Got at least 1 more good year in him. Provides a link to our future.

    Mentor to Hayden, Branch, Porter.

    Instant credibility on Defense.

Instant credibility for FAs for next season.

Might be able to lure John Abraham in for a 1 year incentive offer…

1.8 base with incentives to 4.3…

Anyone here got anything negative to say about Reggie now?

If you do drink a big glass of STFU first.

warren fatt was the real punk. he thought al was going was break him off another big contract. al said take a hike, and been talking about the organization since.

  • realtruraider

I wanted us to sign Woodson for obvious reasons like FS was one of our biggest needs and its Charles Woodson and then EARLIER TODAY CHAMP BAILEY WAS ON THE RADIO AND SAID, “No friggin way Woodson signs with the Raiders” after I heard that I really wanted Woodson to sign with us, so heres a big FU to the biatch Champ

All of the sudden our D looks versatile, fast, and a great blend of youth and wisdom with everyone hungry for a new contract.

    Charles
    Branch
    Hayden
    Porter
    Sio
    Roach
    Hunter
    Burris
    Maivia?
    Sims
    Walker
    Houston

not sure i can agree with the statement that seymour played very well.at times yes, but was very inconsistent, he had little impact in way too many games. he was good but didnt earn his paycheck many sundays

  • spiff

chris in ny…. i agree we will need a pass rush. guess we will see how creative da will be with some blitz packages. don’t need a bunch of sacks as much as we need to get hurries. i think though the rush d will be stout just need to get those hurries and it will bode well. like to see david bass see what he brings

    Hayden, Porter, Branch, Woodson.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

This could be a good unit if it stays healthy and players realize their potential.

Nice blend of youth, some experience, and vet savvy.

There’s speed, hitting ability, and turnover potential.

Have to think, that on paper at least, this unit is vastly improved compared with 2012.
