Raiders OTA begins in 30 minutes

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, May 28th, 2013 at 9:26 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders are back at work today as they kick off the second week of their organized team activities in Alameda. Naturally, we’re expecting to see defensive back Charles Woodson in a Raiders uniform for the first time since the final game of the 2005 season.
Woodson signed with the Raiders last week, and he is slated to play his 16th NFL season as a member of the team that selected him in the first round of the 1998 NFL draft.
It’s also possible that we’ll get a look at wide receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs on the field for the first time. He missed last week’s OTA while recovering from a sore knee.
Beyond that, everyone is expected to be here, with the exception of running back Deonte Williams, who still isn’t eligible to participate because his college class hasn’t graduated yet.
Stay tuned for Tweets and Twitpics from the field, as well as blog posts throughout the day.

how can the Raiders stay in OAK with no lease and no stadium to play in? LA will take the Raiders. OR san diego will. either way. chargettes can move to LA, raiders can move to SD. already have a large fan base there

I suspect a lot of it’s because so many on this board don’t live in the bay area. For us, the difference between the Oakland Raiders and the LA Raiders is a name, nothing more.

    ^^^^^^^^^

Yeah, I live out in Florida. Still means a lot to me that they remain the “Oakland Raiders”. The LA days were a tough pill to swallow. I almost gave up the faith. Even went to some games down in So Cal. The people in LA don’t understand the culture. They made the Raiders their own in their way. Their way’s got nothing to do with the Bay Area. Oakland is the Raiders and the Raiders are Oakland. Anything else, and culturally it’s like living in a foreign country when you want nothing to do with it. Just ain’t right.
    **********
said it before. last thing we want is to be associated with a city who leads the country in murders and robberies. golden state hated being the oakland warriors. bad stigmatism. i live in sunnyvale, and most here won’t even drive through oakland.

  • SaintKaufman

    WTH is Reggie Smith??

  • dr_robert

actually I love oakland. don’t believe MR. buy my hooch there, my nubbies, and can’t beat it for corner bops for bang for ur buck.

LA doesn’t want the Raiders. they want a team, any team, but not the Raiders and their neanderthal mentality fans. that’s a fact we hv to deal with
    ——-

It’s true that the City doesn’t want the Raiders, but they might not have a choice when it comes to demand and avaliabilty. Don’t know who else is going to come, and it was evident last two years when they tried to force the Chargers on the SoCal market that the Raiders still hold the LA market.

I know they exist. Can one of them raise their hand to give me some faith?

But they have shown themselves. Plenty of smart black guys here.

Oakland is a great location. Has perfect weather. Large population centers and infrastructure to support a team.

What it lacks is significant investment in redevelopment of valuable assets like their pro sports franchises.

The rest of the nation’s burgeoning sports cities are preparing blueprints for their expansion. Building out and preparing a buffer zone of well lit, heavily patrolled family friendly businesses.

A significant capital investment is needed and a partnership with the community must be forged. But the land is there for this to work in Oakland. If they plan this out like other cities are doing, they can transform the area to be a big time money maker for Mark Davis and the local community.

All the crime and bad reputation of the city of Oakland and east bay communities can be changed once you see the buy in that leads to jobs and pushes the ghetto’s inland. There’s no reason Oakland can’t be a first class city like across the bay, but it will take a lot of vision, resources and work.

    recent tweets:

Pryor in there now for 11-on-11, not any better … Rookie LB Sio Moore showing nice burst.

Rookie Wilson’s turn – nice throw on post after wobbly deep effort … he wins that drill

Reggie Smith picks off Pryor in 7-on-7 drill. Maybe Pryor is just not the “look good in practice” type

Tyler Wilson was best of three during last team session and he was just OK. Rest assured, things will improve next 2 sessions without media

It’s May. Still plenty of time for Raiders to get the kinks out. Most of these guys never met a month ago

We will be lucky to win 4 games this year.
