    @Van #301

    Mark Davis is a savvy business guy. The football stuff I agree with and even he himself admits to. I also agree that Mark (like his dad) is going to take things personally and get easily offended. Loyalty will be of the utmost importance

    media access to OTA’s in just 15 minutes gents!

    This is so true. Jerry and Cork are admittedly not fans of this team. So why are Niner fans doing this blog? No OTA coverage. Nothing but jerry trying to make a republican like scandal to drive attention to himself. Stellar work there Jerry. Really… Lets hear it for Jerry and Cork!… (crickets)

    Davis consulted Wolf, Madden and Ken Herock, the team’s personnel director for seven years in the 1970s, all of whom were in town for the funeral.

    “Two out of three said, Go ahead and do a deal,” says Davis, who sent a first-round pick in 2012 and a high conditional pick in ‘13 to the Bengals for Palmer.

    Rockstar…appreciate your response, but WHAT exactly has Mark davis done yet to prove any business savvy.
    Sure seemed like Amy Trask was the “protege that Al wanted” while Junior was left to wander the halls…
    Mark does ZERO to inspire any confidence in his ‘business’ skills.
    His hiring of Reggie after 1 interview was a total rookie move…

    Wasn’t it said that after Al died that Amy Trask will stick around to see a smooth transition from Al to Mark and the new regime, and then resign? I think I read somewhere that Amy has said that as a promise to the late Al Davis! i don’t think she had any interest of working for no one but Al Davis!

    Good Morning All;

    That Trotter article is about the best summary I have seen to support why I have been saying this is a 3-5 year rebuild. (4/22/13-Sports Illustrated-Jim Trotter-“The New Silver and Black”).

    It also confirms what I have been saying regarding 2014 being the first season where we can have a legit playoff shot.

    For those that continue to be confused about how the situation got this bad-please read the ENTIRE article. That article would have saved me about 500 posts over the years.

    “Reggie’s my guy,” reiterates Davis. “He did inherit a mess, and he’s still cleaning. I can be patient with him. I’m giving him the whole shot,” meaning the FIVE-year length of his contract.
    “But McKenzie’s plan always called for him to tear the whole thing down and rebuild for the long haul. That has meant upgrading the practice fields and the video and scouting departments, creating budgets and scouting templates, cutting up the credit card and getting the salary cap in order, researching what scouts and personnel on other teams were being paid so he could compensate his people fairly.”

    Nobody can blame Mark Davis for not riding out the season with Kyle Boller at QB. or for firing Hue Jackson after the season. or for hiring Reggie as GM.

    I probably would have done all 3 myself.

    Question though, how bad does your backup QB have to be if you’re willing to give up a 1st & 2nd rounder for a retired player? Kyle Boller was Hue’s guy and he knew the players and the system. He knew the coaches and he was physically fit. He was the 2011 version of Matt Leinart. You have to have a quality backup QB in this league. Mark isn’t a football guy and we learned that right away. However, whose fault is it we didn’t acquire a better player to backup Campbell? Hue Jackson. Might as well have marched a rookie Pryor out there who didn’t know what the heck he was doing and saved the draft picks … if we didn’t feel like Boller was the guy! or picked up some other veteran in case Boller gets off to a rocky start (which he did, see 1st half of KC game)

    If your surgeon had a son who hung around the office, yet never went to med. school or took any patients until the old man was gone, would you let him operate on you?

  • nycraider

    how does firing a PR guy prove you cant run a business

  • Thec

    Trotter quotes Mark: “The one thing I know is what I don’t know — that’s why I hire people to handle these things.”

  • VanHeathen30

    Mark’s biggest mistake so far, is not getting a Pres. of Football ops. in place BEFORE he hired a GM…
    Mom put him in charge,for now.

  • Thec

    Mark also says this about McKenzie: “Reggie’s my guy. He did inherit a mess, and he’s still cleaning. I can be patient with him. I’m giving him the whole shot (five years). I’m not saying everybody else gets that same shot, because not everybody else is my guy. But Reggie is the one hire that I made — him and Carson (Palmer).”

    ++++++++++++=

    Been saying this for a while now, like it or not reg will get the full tern.

    Question is will his HC last through year 3?

    my biggest concern about the raiders is that they went 4-12 last year and many of their positions have been ranked last in the nfl. i could care less about a pr guy. its not like we were getting alot of info from jerry anyway. if it wasnt for otas , jerry would have never known about hayden being in the hospital. maybe jerry should comment how bad he is to miss that story

    Just throwing it out there, there was a lot of leaked information preceding and during the draft. Could it have been Gilbert or someone in the PR dept.

Al, who sometimes treated him with contempt, gave him the team even though, in his whole life, Mark never learned enough about football, never immersed himself in the organization, never fought for credibility in the NFL. Part of this was Al’s fault.”

    Even if the Raiders win “only” 5 games this season (who’s honestly expecting that much more with 3 question marks at QB and an overall ? at offense?)

    firing Allen would make no sense. Why? Because Allen was the BEST Davis could hire 2 years ago. No one better would come when you don’t even give a guy 3 seasons to turn around what looked like a bloated expansion team roster.

    Firing Gilbert is the ultimate admission that the article is EXTREMELY ACCURATE.

    Organizations have PR protocols and my guess is Gilbert did not follow protocol. Not hard to see that MD would not have authorized the release of that piece had he seen it ahead of time.

    Assuming a clearance protocol was in place AND CLEARLY COMMUNICATED TO EMPLOYEES and Gilbert did not follow it; Shame on Gilbert.

    Assuming there was not clearance PR protocol in place;
    Shame on Mark Davis.

    We will most likely never know.

    Who are these clowns kidding. This writer is trying to say that suddenly writers had access to the team. I haven’t heard squat from the players or coaches. The most open this team was with the press was when Hue was around.
    I know you’ll never admit it Cork but you know it’s true.

  • bcz24

    In the scheme of wins and losses, the Gilbert firing means about as much as a cloudy day in Japan… but it begs the question, Is Mark as egomaniacal as Al was? From all the accounts I have read, this is supposedly retaliation for Trotter’s article. If that is true, than the answer to that question is, Yes, and the organization is going to continue to suffer for it.

    It certainly doesn’t create a warm and fuzzy feeling around the org right now. Amy inexplicably resigning, this guy fired now, after being banned from the facility for 2 months? Seems like that black cloud is still firmly anchored in Alameda.

  • Tricky70390

    “The media are permitted to attend only one of three OTA practices each week, which explains why we don’t report on the two other days. We can’t report on what we don’t see.”

    I was thinking this this weekend, Cork, when all the fruitballs in here where up in arms over you and Jerry Mac only posting about actual football once last week and then posting about Gilbert like you came crawling out of your lairs just prop up some PR nobody and schit on the Raiders. You’ve got to realize – 90% of the daily posters in here are either:

    A. Old, retired geezers with nothing better to do,
    B. Cheese scented shutins on disability with nothing better to do, or
    C. Azzholes who, instead of doing their work, sit on their company-provided computer using their company-provided internet connection and mash the F5 button all day on the company’s dime.
