Raiders sign another draft pick

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013 at 1:06 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed quarterback Tyler Wilson on Tuesday morning, one day before the team reports to Napa for the start of training camp.
Cornerback D.J. Hayden and offensive tackle Menelik Watson are the only two draft picks unsigned as of now, though both likely will be under contract before Friday’s first practice.
Wilson was selected in the fourth round of the NFL draft in April out of Arkansas.

The Raiders signed linebacker Sio Moore (third round, 66th overall) on June 13 and announced six signings on June 6: tight end Nick Kasa (sixth round, No. 172), running back Latavius Murray (sixth round, No. 181, tight end Mychal Rivera (sixth round, No. 184, defensive tackle Stacy McGee (sixth round, No. 205), wide receiver Brice Butler (seventh round, No. 209) and defensive end David Bass (seventh round, No. 233).

This is a clip from that Vic Tafur article:

“4. Can Matt Flynn lead the offense?

There won’t be a quarterback competition at camp, as the coaches don’t think Terrelle Pryor and rookie Tyler Wilson are ready.”

This is what I was trying to tell Mystic X but he wont listen. If the coaches thought Pryor was ready we would not have went out and got Flynn and or drafted Tyler Wilson.

Could be the HC is prejudice….against rookies we know Gruden was.

  • SR Raider

Players are reporting to camp today? You’d never know it from the articles on this site

  • The_Judge37

I don’t really have anything to support my “Gut Feeling”

I just ran and did a Belly-Flop in a Kiddy Pool of Kool-Aid this morning because, what the Hell right?

    It’s training camp time……

    Now that I can understand.

From Twitter. Al’s final second-round pick was a good one.

    Raiders Beat
    Large sample size, too –> @BairCSN: #Raiders Wisniewski was NFL’s best pass-blocking center. 616 passing plays – 0 sacks, 2 hits, 6 hurries

not bad, but still would have much rather Al would have traded up for Kaepernick when he had the chance.

How did Brady look against the Ravens in the second half of the AFC championship? (Recent enough for you?)

He got pressure had to play catch up and threw picks.

    Game over.

As good as Brady is his Oline became overmatched and they lost. Partly due to game circumstance and partly due to the Ravens front seven seven pressuring Brady and taking away the run.

Why is that so hard to see?

No QB wins throwing 70% of the time against a playoff caliber defense. No QB wins having one second to throw the ball. No QB wins taking hit after hit like Ben in recent years.
No WR gets open with one second to throw the ball.

You think Kurt Warner has his success without a guy like Orlando Pace?????

I am afraid you have spent too much time listening to entertainers like Mel Kiper and believing media hype about QB play.

As the old saying goes. The QB gets too much credit when things go well and too much blame when things go bad.

Why? Because it is a team game. 12 of your starting 22 play almost exclusively in the box if you run a 4-3 defense.
Football is a game of time and space that ALL starts with blocking and tackling.
Without it no offense succeeds and it all starts with the line.

    Carson Palmer

but he’s still better than the suicidal turd you wanted (Vince Young)
    ================================================
True. Palmer is better than VY.

Here’s the thing though, Rock – I only wanted to bring VY in bcz he would have cost absolutely NOTHING.

I’m probably the only guy that predicted the RAIDS would trade for Palmer.

I also BLASTED the RAIDS for paying way too much for CP when the trade went down.

Bringing in VY would have cost nothing, and the RAIDS might be in better shape today if they had done that instead of trading for CP.

  • hwnrdr

You could be right, 99! Or VY cold have just stunk it up on the field and locker room! But stil…we wouldn’t have known!

Kind of what Carson Palmer looked like all season!

Our O-Line was over matched and we were playing catch up all the time and Palmer threw picks…..so there is not much difference between them is there?

  • RaiderRockstar

    @Charlie

you want to talk about Baltimore, the Super Bowl champs?

Ok – how good was their O-Line (tackles especially)?

Peyton Manning went from Jeff Saturday to JD Walden at center when he moved from Indy to Denver. That’s right, a Pro Bowl center to the league’s WORST center.

Luckily, Walden got hurt and they signed a solid vet to fill in. Think Peyton would have been a tremendous flop due to Center play? Pfft – get outta here

  • inonewordraider

for the most part you need an elite qb in my opinion

there are exceptions to the rules of course: Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer

Ben got rings with no oline

aaron Rodgers drew brees and peyton manning are elite qb’s but they need balance

at the end of day it’s about a team but you pretty much have to be exceptional at all other aspects if you don’t have a top tier qb

    @RM99

VY was a member of the Eagles when Jason Campbell got hurt. We could have TRADED for him though and I’ll admit he wouldn’t have costed a 1st & 2nd.

Do you recall he was pumped about joining Philly’s “dream team” prior to the 2011 season? and the Eagles paid him $5.5 million on that 1-year deal. How much do you think Al Davis would have paid for him to COMPETE with Jason Campbell and Hue’s boy Boller? $7-8 million ?? (plus the $4.5 mil JC was makin’)

    ============================================
VY most probably would have stunk it up.

But it wouldn’t have cost us anything to find that out.

We’d have wound up still looking for a QB, but would have had a first round pick and a 2nd round pick to try to find one.

Heck, if VY sucked that bad we might have wound up drafting Luck or RGIII.

Instead we got a year and a half of the mediocre, over the hill CP.

    True!

  • RaiderRockstar

the only ways VY could have been a starting Raider QB:

1 – outbid Philly for his services in free agency AND cut ties with Jason Campbell

2 – cut/trade Palmer after the 2011 season and sign Young for peanuts (pretty sure he would have chose us over Buffalo to play with his buddy Huff)

  • theghostronin79

Fella’s……Why reminisce about a past that never happened, and a possible future -that ALSO didn’t happen- from “Said” past?

  • RaiderRockstar

Heck, if VY sucked that bad we might have wound up drafting Luck or RGIII.

    ***

    how?

we were 4-2 when Palmer took over and we finished 8-8.

VY taking over a 4-2 team would have finished 4-12 ??

even if so, the Colts & Rams finished with 2 wins on the year. Colts obviously took Luck. Skins traded with STL for Griffin

our “franchise QB” would have been Ryan Tannehill or Brandon Weeden

    ==========================================
    Yep.

Brad Johnson had a good year when TB went to the SB, but it was a dominating defense that was more responsible for that championship than Gruden’s revived offense was.

Dilfer ? He doesn’t sniff the SB without that Raven defense.

Just about every time an average QB has won a SB (and that’s a RARITY) it’s been due to riding an exceptional defense.

  • Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

I have a strong feeling that the Raiders are going to be the worst team in league by a long shot.

  • RaiderRockstar

this is all silly, because we KNOW that RM99 hated “JaJason” and would have dumped him after finishing 8-8 in 2010.

and probably would have outbid Philly for VY’s services

I doubt VY could have started 2011 better than 4-2, but I have zero doubt he could have played better than Kyle Boller or (off the couch) Palmer

    Can’t predict injuries though…

So you actually expect me to believe that Peyton went to Denver knowing they had a bad oline?????

Your talking about the same Oline that helped Tebow get Denver to the playoffs in 2011. An Oline THAT AVERAGED 114 yards per game on the ground ranked 16 in the NFL in 2012- (yes you do have to run the ball to win in the NFL).

I think it is safe to say Peyton Manning knows a lot more about Oline play than you do and why are you focusing on one player on a five man unit??
    Curious.

As far as the Ravens go you want to talk about individual offensive tackle play on a team ranked 11 in rushing and 15 passing in the NFL and won the super bowl in 2012 ?????

You can not be serious in thinking that it was all Flacco and Boldin???

Stop reading the hype and watch some games.

Sounds like the same story they were telling about the York’s not being able to build a stadium in S.F. They duped Santa Clara into a vote then bate and switch Santa Clara secured a loan for the 300 million 49ers were supposed to pony up now The Raiders are in the same type of situation. Why say Mark can’t afford it when S.F. clearly couldn’t afford it either? Now on with the debate! Go Raiders! Also before you go moving Raiders see Gooddell saying he wants Raiders and 49ers to stay in Bay Area. Rams and Jags have more of a chance than Oakland to be moved to L.A. LMAO!
