Raiders sign another draft pick

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013 at 1:06 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed quarterback Tyler Wilson on Tuesday morning, one day before the team reports to Napa for the start of training camp.
Cornerback D.J. Hayden and offensive tackle Menelik Watson are the only two draft picks unsigned as of now, though both likely will be under contract before Friday’s first practice.
Wilson was selected in the fourth round of the NFL draft in April out of Arkansas.

The Raiders signed linebacker Sio Moore (third round, 66th overall) on June 13 and announced six signings on June 6: tight end Nick Kasa (sixth round, No. 172), running back Latavius Murray (sixth round, No. 181, tight end Mychal Rivera (sixth round, No. 184, defensive tackle Stacy McGee (sixth round, No. 205), wide receiver Brice Butler (seventh round, No. 209) and defensive end David Bass (seventh round, No. 233).

    @G123

pass rushers typically make BANK in free agency

Abraham has 65 sacks over the past 6 years. that’s pretty consistent.

even last year, 10 sacks on a playoff team.

there’s no question he thinks he’s worth a pretty penny. I think he is too!

  • hwnrdr

Many players think they are worth more than they actually are…with Abraham though…he was asking way too much! If he lands with The Cardinals, its because his price went down! At least I hope they don’t sign him for that much…

  • RaiderRockstar

oh by the way, Abraham also had 7 passes defensed & 6 forced fumbles last year

    #playmaker

  • hwnrdr

I like Abraham, but there has to be a reason why he is stil out there!

  • RaiderRockstar

did our entire defensive line get 10 sacks & 6 FF’s last year ??

You get paid the big bucks when your in your prime, not when your 35 yo and only play 50% of the snaps, just look at Carter he had good production for the Pats and he’s playing for peanuts.

    ******

I blame the new CBA. Pass rushers should be making pretty penny and look at what Osi got. 2 years 8 mill. That’s quarters on the dollar. This looks like league wide collusion and they are using the hard salary cap as their excuse for not paying DE’s what they are worth. The players assoc. got raped on that last deal.

  • RaiderRockstar

Seymour & Kelly combined for 4 sacks last season

Carter & ShoNasty combined for 6 sacks

these 4 players EQUALLED John Abraham in the sack category. wow

Carter, Bryant & Houston each forced a fumble last year. nothing from ShoNasty, Kelly, Seymour or Tollefson

    entire DL = 3 FF’s (Abraham 6)

  • hwnrdr

I hear ya Rockstar, but you’re missing the point! It’s not only Reggie who shyed away, (but the question is, was he even interested)…he was asking too much for someone 35 years old. I agree…he can most likely still play, but…

Heard Chris Kluwe on the Loveline radio show last night. The Raiders have traditionally been a team that has welcomed people that the rest of the league discarded just because of who they were, what they supported, or what their politics were. Mark Davis and Reggie McKenzie are keeping that tradition alive today. There had to have been some Raider fans in the ’60s that didn’t like Al Davis bringing so many black players here, so many players with long hair that looked to be part of the “counter-culture”. Fast forward a half century, you have Raider fans unhappy about the team bringing in a player who vocally supports equal marriage rights. The Raiders don’t care. If you can play football, you’re a Raider. And in Oakland, you can be you.

  • RaiderRockstar

    @East Oak

Carter wasn’t just old, he was INJURED (torn quadriceps tendon) – wasn’t even healthy enough to play until mid september last year

    big difference

Man, the Cult of Jason Campbell is one tough horse to beat! LOL. Brandon Weeden better be prepared for all the vodoo hate the Cult is going to throw his way this season.

I wonder how AZ sees itself?
Are they in win now, a piece away?
    Window closing for Fitz?
Kinda makes sense they would go after Abraham?

  • hwnrdr

Also, wasn’t he hurt last year? Maybe reason he took 50 snaps? Just checking…

True, but why only now…did they cave in or did Abraham lower his price?

  • RaiderRockstar

    MR,

you missed the point. Kluwe sucks. thats why the Vikings cut him and replaced him with a rookie 5th rounder

He’s only 31. Minny could have given him at least 5 more years, like we did Shane Lechler (36) and punters historically don’t make squat. I think the franchise tag is less than $1.5 million

  • DutchRaider77

True, but why only now…did they cave in or did Abraham lower his price?

    Is AZ a 3-4 team?

When it comes to social tolerance, the Raiders are pioneers in this century just as they were last century.

I really could care less if Kluwe, King, Lechler or Ray Guy is our punter. Last season we were out of games by early 3rd qtr. The friggin punter wont fix that.

Not sure about 3-4…but they had a decent defense last year. It was their offense that was sucky!

I agree, when it comes to tolerance the Raiders are pioneers. They hired the gay marriage touting punter one year after they hired the ample breast head coach.

Why would you give an old injury prone DE big bucks? Osi got what he is worth at this point in his career.

Boldin was so valuable the Ravens let him walk.

My point with the stats is that the Ravens had a balanced attack. They were not pass only. Even the threat of the run in the red zone opens up Boldin or what will be his replacement next year.
It is not a pass only league.

“Denver’s Oline is crap with the exception of Clady.” That means the Raider rebuild is going to take till 2020 because they have knocked the crap out of us three straight times. Sorry, Peyton knows and you don’t and he had a lot more to lose than you if he was wrong. Denver has a good Oline and they have the wins to prove it.

    End of argument.

Go ahead and keep thinking all we need to do is get good skill guys to win.
Three of Reggie’s first four picks have been in the box players and 20 of this year’s first 32 picks were in the box players (recent enough for you?).

Thankfuly you are not our GM.

I was thinking Jaws was rating Flynn at # 32 cuz of the 27-10 SB beatdown he endured at the Raiders hands…preventing him from winning that elusive ring that all aspire to, but then I saw his rankings from LAST YEAR while Flynn was still a Seahawk and he had him at # 27. So it isn’t his Raider hate that is ranking him so dismally.

If you figure his ranking last yr was BEFORE he lost his starter position to Russell Wilson it makes sense that his opinion would’ve dropped even further.
