Hayden signs contract; Raiders ready to focus on football

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, July 25th, 2013 at 11:08 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed cornerback D.J. Hayden to a long-term contract Thursday, one day before the team’s first training camp practice in Napa.
Hayden was the 10th and final Raiders 2013 draft pick to sign a contract. The Raiders now have everyone under contract and can get about the business of preparing for the regular season through practices at their away-from-home facility at the Napa Valley Marriott and Redwood Middle School.
The Raiders are undergoing physical examinations and taking part in meetings today in preparation for Friday’s 8:50 a.m. practice.
No word on whether Hayden will be cleared to practice Friday. He missed the tail end of offseason workouts after he underwent surgery to remove scar tissue in his abdomen region. The scar tissue built up as a result of a surgery Hayden underwent in November to repair a ruptured vein that he suffered during a practice at the University of Houston.
Coach Dennis Allen said he expected Hayden to be healed in time for the start of training camp. If Hayden needs more time, he likely will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

Having Vick at QB for the Raiders would be an excellent move, getting Tebow as his backup would be awesome.

Non-football related injury is nothing (or at least can be).

They can take you off that any day.

Doubt he stays on there more than a week.

Priest today said that Terrell Pryor is going to change the way football is played or something along those lines.

The above post was made by someone w/out a handle. No name.

How is it possible to do that?

    Weird. I’ve never seen that.

Well, unless Flynn or TP work out, I’m pretty sure we’re going to be drafting a QB very early.

Not buying into Tyler Wilson at all.

And Corky gave him the death smooch today.

Manziel’s game against the Sooners absolutely impressed the hell out of me.

I’m kind of hoping this reputation for being entitled and an immature boozing headcase continues, bcz I think this guy can play.

Would love to see the RAIDS get him on the ‘cheap’.

Let’s say MANZIEL has another outstanding year.

    Talking about ON the field.

I’m thinking this kid is going to surprise people with his passing ability this year.

We already know he’s got great feet and superb field vision.

So let’s say he throws it better than people think.

He’s still going to be shorter than ideal.

He’s still going to have character or maturity questions.

    Do you take him ?

Most of the opinion on this board says HELL NO.

I take him in a heartbeat.

    @@@@@@@@@

Put me in the hell no category. He’s a punk. And he’s small. You think RG3 got smoked last year? Put that little white punk out there and see what happens. (I’m white, I can say that). Haha

Last year, in the middle of the college season before JFF got TOO big, they said he amazed his college coaches in 2011 going throw for throw with Tannehill as a redshirt in practice.

I think his arm is underrated.

I just don’t think he will handle newfound fame mixed with a lot more work, too well.

He made a throw up the right sideline in the bowl game against Oklahoma that really caught my eye.

Not so much the velocity – but the perfect timing, arc and placement.

Before that toss I’m thinking this guy is electric, has great feet and can move it with ease on the college level – but so fkng what ? – lots of guys can do that.

After that toss I’m thinking this guy might tear it up in the NFL too.

Hoping there’s a really good crop of college QBs this year and that we finally land one of them.

    The latter.

I’m not saying that TW is schit. Honestly haven’t seen enough of him to have an opinion either way.

About all I’ve seen of TW is some draft day clips and an analysis that Jaws did of him on BSPN. Somehow I missed the Gruden camp with TW.

I was not impressed with what I did see.

    But I really don’t know.

But if Corky likes him alot, I’m worried.

    Corky is almost always wrong.

Cork is the guy that had the RAIDS blowing out the Chargers in Hue’s final game.

Cork had Travis Ivey doing big things last year.

Cork made a bunch of predictions in today’s chat.

He’ll probably be wrong on just about every one.

    Question for the Nation:
Which team will blink first and give JaWalrus a contract to come into camp? Hardly anyone expects him to actually make a roster, but with his arm it’s hard to believe someone won’t take him on as a “camp project”.

Anyone see Tom Brady commenting on the Hernandez case today ?

Tom Terrific has what appears to be a scar or evidence of some stitching behind his right ear.

Thinking he had some surgery that hasn’t been talked about yet.

Either that or my TV is blurry.

  • Just Fire Baby

If Jamarcus were to be signed for a “camp project” he would have been so during OTA’s so he could get the offensive playbook and all that.

Bringing in that dude in the middle of camp and throwing a playbook at him, would be extremely hilarious but somewhat cruel.

  • Just Fire Baby

    Man I hate Hanley Ramirez.

Would someone just drill this dude already? I have never seen a player with such on the field histrionics.

    =============================================
I guess it’s possible some backup QB could get injured or a team might be so disenchanted with what they have on the roster that they might consider giving JaMoron a look.

It’s doubtful that JaMoron will ever get in good enough shape to be signed.

Even if he does, he’s still JaMoron and is too moronic and inarticulate to run an NFL offense.

So to answer your question, the chances of JaMoron signing with an NFL team is extremely remote.

The chance of JaMoron sticking with an NFL team, even as a ‘project’, and actually taking an NFL snap in the regular season is ZERO.

    Just don’t tell Debo this.

    It would crush him.

    lalalala

    @@@@@@@@

I’ve been pushing that facking button for two months. And now, here we go. Hayden’s first step towards season ending IR. Let’s hear from “raider hater” Kawakami:

Right now, a lot of the raised eyebrows are focused on one McKenzie decision in particular: Selecting CB D.J. Hayden 12th overall in the April draft after Hayden missed the last part of his senior season at Houston dealing with the results of a practice injury that tore a blood vessel near his heart.

In March, Hayden was hospitalized with an abdominal injury after going through some workouts and it is not clear whether he will be ready to go full-speed and full-contact once training camp begins July 25 in Napa.

(Hayden is currently unsigned, but that’s not atypical of the top portion of the first round at this point. If he remains unsigned deep into training camp, that might be a rather large sign that the Raiders aren’t expecting much or anything from him in the early stages of this season, so they can wait on a contract for a while.)

The point is this: With a roster that desperately needs an influx of difference-making talent, how could McKenzie risk his highest draft pick to date on a player with this much of a health question mark?

And wasted words from Yahoo Sports on Hayden:

    D.J. Hayden’s Health
McKenzie threw everyone a curve ball when he decided to draft Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden with the 12th-overall pick in the draft, but he seems very confident in his decision.
By now, everyone knows about that freak injury that sent Hayden to the hospital toward the end of his senior season. I mean, the guy nearly died. And even though he’s been cleared by doctors, that sort of injury has to linger in the mind of the front office at some point in time.
Let’s not forget the fact that Hayden is still feeling the effects of an abdominal surgery he had back in May and might not be at 100 percent by the time training camp begins.
So between life-threatening heart surgery just eight months ago and another surgery to remove scar tissue six weeks ago, Hayden’s health will be a huge concern for the Raiders. Given the fact that many thought McKenzie reached for Hayden in the first place, it will be very interesting to see if he was worth the gamble.
    At least for this year.

    And from the Sports Network:

Underwhelming types like nose tackle Pat Sims and under tackle Vance Walker were brought in as McKenzie focused on reaching for Houston corner D.J. Hayden in the draft. The Raiders loved Hayden so much they almost wasted the No. 3 overall pick to get him before wisely trading down and getting him at 12. They could have dropped another 10 spots at least. It’s almost like Davis is still haunting the organization.

    Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2013/07/18/extra-points-back-to-work-training-camp-primer/#ixzz2a8VtFkTV

    And finally from the Org:

GM Reggie McKenzie also believes that, after this procedure, Raiders CB DJ Hayden will be ready for training camp.
