    Who cares.

He doesn’t rank 32nd in career rating. He’s probably around tenth.

No 32nd may be to high. He should be in the backup QB ranks.

Someone had to be 32nd. Flynn had the least amount of playing experience out of the 32 its probably a no brain er when making the list.

No, this sounds right about Flynn. People were saying the same thing when the seahawks picked him up.

Arm strength remains a question mark for Matt Flynn

When the late Raiders owner Al Davis was calling the shots, a strong-armed quarterback was a necessity. So it’s a strong sign of the changing times in Oakland that the biggest question about this year’s presumed starter, Matt Flynn, is arm strength.

Flynn arrives in Oakland having started just two games in his NFL career, so there’s not a lot of film of him to study. But Ron Jaworski of ESPN has studied the film that’s available and ranked Flynn dead last among the NFL’s 32 starting quarterbacks. The reason is Flynn’s lack of arm strength.

“The more throws I watched, the more his arm strength limitations were evident,” Jaworski said on NFL Live while diagramming a touchdown pass Flynn threw with the Packers. “The fade, as you see here, is not an arm-strength throw. It’s more of a touch throw. In fact, I was concerned that his few deep balls lost energy at the back end. They had a tendency to die.”

Jaworski thinks Flynn can succeed in the NFL, but he’ll need an offense tailored to his accuracy, and not an offense relying on arm strength. That doesn’t sound like the kind of offense we’re accustomed to seeing in Silver and Black.

Matt Flynn has starter’s talent, minus rocket arm

Strengths: Flynn is a smart quarterback who reads defenses, finds open receivers and makes good decisions. He is especially good at moving and freezing defensive backs to open up receivers or keep throwing lanes open. He has a quick, compact release even when there’s not much space to set-up.

He consistently shows good poise in the pocket, and does not get flustered as the pocket gets squeezed or as offensive linemen get blocked back into him. Flynn’s accurate on short and intermediate passes and he has good touch on deep throws. Good size (6-2, 225) and shows the ability to pull free from potential sacks and buy second chances. Can make good throws on the move or can scramble for first downs.

Weaknesses: While Flynn is a strong QB when it comes to pulling free from potential sacks, he lacks arm strength. The ball does not burst out of his hand and he lacks the ability to make throws that require a lot of zip beyond 25 yards. Passes tend to take time to get the target, giving defenders a big advantage. He will need to improve in this area so teams can use their entire playbook.

He occasionally does not stride into throws when he has the space and ends up throwing with a stiff front leg, which leads to being inconsistent with his accuracy.

Bottom line: Flynn came into the NFL as a seventh-round pick in the 2008 draft and faced long odds considering the Packers drafted QB Brian Brohm in the second round that year. Flynn quickly leapfrogged Brohm and ended up becoming the backup QB to Aaron Rodgers. He is a fundamentally-sound player who has a quick release. Flynn shows poise, patience and good decision-making that NFL teams look for, and combined with his intermediate accuracy, he has many of the tools to be a productive starting QB in the NFL.

Overall, I believe Flynn has what it takes to develop into a quality starter. He’ll be most effective in offenses that emphasize a short passing attack. Teams must be willing to work around his lack of top arm strength. Because he is a young quarterback, he is not likely to go to a team that just selected one in the draft. We believe he would be a good fit in Arizona, Buffalo, Seattle or Miami.

The team is not good enough to win with a dink and dunk offense led by a QB with a sub-par arm. Teams will already be keying on the running game and a dink and dunk passing attack will be bottled up along with the running game. Secondly, the Raiders’ receiving corp are not short route runners. They are most effective at going deep and stretching the field.

Sad to see agenda of both the Flynn lovers and Pryor lovers….shame on yall…..thought we loved the Raiders. Its very obvious when the starter if officially named it will cause chaos in here. If that person doesnt meet expectations it will be worse.

Flynn is ahead right now with no one trying to kill him. Pryor is the number 2 for sure(eventhough two individual posters on here had agendas saying he would be 3rd string)with him being on field in certain packages. I think this route will be fine for now. saints and Bears games will tell us alot

Jaws, Jaworski, has never forgiven the Raiders for what they did to him and the eagles in the 1980 SB, when the great Linebacker Rod Martin, didn’t intercept him once, twice, but three times! Total domination. Having listened to his squeaky clean BSPN evaluations, they really don’t add up to much. As previously posted, Gruden saw through him as a Raider hater, and continuously put him in his place on MNF. “Just Win Baby!”
