More Sunday notes, quotes

There are so many times it’s tough to keep up, but here is the list of 20 players who were held out of practice Sunday, either because of injury or to get a rest:

Defensive linemen (7): NT Johnny Jones, DL Brandon Bair, DT Myles Wade, DT Pat Sims, DT Stacy McGee, DT Vance Walker, DE Lamarr Houston.

Linebackers (4): Sio Moore, Miles Burris, Billy Boyko, Kaluka Maiava.

Defensive backs (2): CB Mike Jenkins, CB Tracy Porter.

Offensive players (7): WR Connor Vernon, RB Latavius Murray, RG Mike Brisiel, C-G Alex Parsons, OT Menelik Watson, WR-RS Josh Cribbs, G Lucas Nix.

– Brisiel’s absence gave Allen a chance to get a look at Khalif Barnes at guard. Barnes, whose starts have all been at tackle, last remembers playing inside “three or four” years ago against the San Diego Chargers after two players went down due to injury.

“It’s cool. Things happen a little faster. I haven’t done it in a few years, but I’ve just got to get the footwork down and notice that things happen a little quicker inside as opposed to the edge,” Barnes said. “The more you can do the better it is. You just make yourself more valuable. I’m just trying to come in and do what they ask me to do.”

Said Allen: “He’s a big guy that’s got some power, so I think that’s something we want to look at. Him moving inside some, and kind of mix and match the lineups a little bit and see what we got. That was something that we had kind of planned on doing throughout camp and we took the opportunity to day with Brisiel being down to put him in there and see what he can do.”

With consistency being preached from Day 1 of training camp, Allen was asked which players have been the most consistent. Although he as reluctant to give names, Allen did anyway, naming SS Tyvon Branch, DE Jason Hunter, MLB Nick Roach, Barnes, C Stefen Wisniewski and RB Darren McFadden.

Given a little more time, the guess here is Allen would have also named FS Charles Woodson, WR Rod Streater and LT Jared Veldheer.

– Interesting that the two Raiders who have played the most games _ Woodson and DE Andre Carter _ have not missed a practice.

– Watson, who along with Sims and Burris has not practiced through the first nine sessions of camp, will have a difficult time mounting a challenge for the right tackle position considering his college experience at Florida State is just 13 games.

“He’s way behind. He went through the offseason program, but here we are in the second week of camp and he hasn’t seen a down yet,” Allen said. “He’s got to get healthy and got to get back out here. It’s frustrating to me, but it’s frustrating for him too.”

Wilson is a wasted pick. Drafting a 3rd string QB in the 4th over a DL especially a pass rusher was a huge mistake.

    Pryor a blue chip talent?

    Third round supplemental draft pick.

    Ur a stone cold moron.

  • Just Fire Baby

of course weeden will start the year, my question is how long is the leash?

    ********************************

Why would they bench a 1st round pick for any reason for a guy that is clearly past his prime?

I see the only way he gets benched is if the Browns are actually winning in spite of him, which won’t happen.

If healthy, Weeden gets 16 starts. If he stinks, they will draft a QB next year and move on.

  • Just Fire Baby

Half the league didn’t even show up to TP’s pro day.

Not sure what to make of that but it happened.

Blue-chip guys get 2 to 3 representatives from just about EVERY team to at least show up.

Could be there loss though, I certainly hope it works that way.

But if Al doesn’t take TP, who knows where he ends up.

And TP is the 1st QB EVER taken in the sup draft that wasn’t a 1st round pick. Every other QB ever taken in the sup draft, a team used a 1st rounder on.

Even Dave Brown, Steve Walsh and Tim Rosenbaugh.

And which blue-chip pass rusher was available in the 4th?

  • Just Fire Baby

Funny too, because Ponder is massively more athletic than Jason Campbell and has accomplished way more in his first two years than Soup did as well.

So spare us the “I just love athletic QB’s” routine.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

when pryor is in the game he should throw deep to back off the safeties.

This will open up running lanes for dmac and give ford and other a chance to have room to run underneath reece and aus in the seams

I want play action motions and shifts. i want every snap to begin with the option action

when you have pryor you cant dedicate extra defenders to play against any particular player or play.

you get true straight up 11 on 11, and unlike wash or seattle or carolina, i think out skill guys will win most 1 on 1 match ups

  • the famous dr robert

    It’s simple.

If ANYONE in the org was sold on Pryor, they don’t TRADE for a starting qb and DRAFT a mid round qb.

I hope I’m wrong but we are much more likely to see the usual inaccurate Pryor in Friday. Slightly better perhaps but nowhere close to being a starter in the nfl.

Seahawks signed Flynn to a 26 million dollar contract than drafted Wilson and the rest is history. Pryor didn’t deserve the job based on 1 game. Only an idiot would make a definitive opinion on 1 game..LOL..But Pryor has earned the right to compete and maybe semis like you couldn’t fathom that a player can actually improve during the off season.

    ======================================

If you’re criticizing Reggie for drafting a QB or OL when some supposedly great player was on the board, then you need to specifically state who that player was and why then would have been better than who was taken. Otherwise, your opprobrium has no basis in fact.

Our pre-season opener against the Cowboys should be very
productive for our defensive in that they’re going to be
tested against the run, especially if Romo doesn’t start.

Although pre-season doesn’t count, it’s still a good indicator of where we’re progressing and where we need
to improve. Plus, it’s just good to get back into the game after six months of nothing.

nfl scouting combine….what hard to understand?
    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/tony-bergstrom?id=2533010

    Weaknesses
Bergstrom is a non-explosive, almost weak offensive lineman. He doesn’t get much of a jolt when working off the ball and struggles to get a lot of movement when blocking for the run. He is not aggressive in his blocks and is more of a catcher who uses his feet and hands to react and mirror. Bergstrom is what he is: Reliable, big, and a student of the game, but he isn’t going to blow anyone away at the next level.
