Raiders-Cowboys underway

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, August 9th, 2013 at 7:14 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders first possession ended when Matt Flynn was hit on a blindside sack by Sean Lee, losing a fumble to Jason Hatcher . . .

– Sixth-round draft pick Stacy McGee joined third-round pick Sio Moore as rookies in the starting lineup as projected starting tackles Pat Sims (injury) and Vance Walker (paternity leave) were scratched.

– Raiders captains were Charles Woodson and Nick Roach on defense, Flynn and McFadden on offense and Janikowski on special teams. Woodson received the biggest cheer when the defense was introduced before the game.

It was Woodson’s first time at the Coliseum as a Raider since the a 30-21 loss to the New York Giants to end the 2005 season.

– Friday was the first game with the east side third deck structure unofficially known as Al Davis closed. A black tarp adorned with a huge Raiders shield covered approximate 7,000 seats.

Also closed were three sections in the original third deck at the outer edges leading in to the east side deck.

Capacity for the Coliseum this season will be 53,000.

– With the press box elevator breaking down at around 5 p.m., Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin was assisted by a two media members who went to the bottom floor and led him through a kitchen area before Coliseum staff took over.

– It was the fourth time in five seasons Dallas served as the Raiders’ first preseason opponent. The Cowboys won 3-0 in Oakland in 2012, the Raiders won 17-9 in Dallas in 2010 and also won 31-10 in Oakland in 2009.

– Contest winners Deja Bryson and James Greer sang God Bless America and the National Anthem before the game.

So what you just saw showed that Flynn was 2x as good as Pryor?

  • Breaking_Black

DMac and Reece on KTLA talking about their love of dogs and how much DMac is holding the Raiders back.

  • willy91137

With the team we have in place now I think Pryor is a better choice he confuses the dances

and I’m sure Greg Olsen would like to see prior instead of Flynn I feel sorry for Flynn

but feeling sorry and winning is two different things go pryor I’m convinced me and 49% of raider fans are probably convinced right now

  • Kirk

All the a holes here said that the NFL had “figured out” the read option, when I suggested using Pryor in it.

No, they have not figured it out.

  • redshirt

Reece is such a fuggin BEAST

Pryors RB’s looked dynamic as well. Flynn’s didn’t.

Maybe it’s because the Defense is scared of Pryor running, and not flynnart

Yep. 4 plays in the first half of the first preseason game proves that conclusively.

It was about DMC and Reece being Super Best Friends

  • C2E

Flynn might actually be more valuable as a serviceable backup, like Cousins (Skins).

That’s also because when Flynn is in, they stack the box and don’t have to fear either the deep pass or Flynn scrambling.

When Pryor’s in, they have more things to worry about, which allows the RBs more room.

Look at Jennings w/Flynn versus Jennings w/Pryor.

    No maybes about it.

  • Raider E

Next time Pryor will run that play in. DA told him as much when he came to the sideline.

Flynn didnt look to bad except for the fact that he has weak hands, and missed a wide open Criner on that 3rd and five when he threw to Streater 3yards downfield lol.

    Hey slob,

Flynn sucks. Maybe he will blow you, Chump.

  • Dakota

Did Teblow win the job over Brady today?

  • shutdown

Talented as TP is, most of the time it looks like he doesn’t throw to a spot –looks a bit like sandlot, with him retcentbto pull the trigger, thn buying time with his feet, , hoping a receiver gets free. Confidence that comes from more playing tyime might change that. Hard to say.

  • SnBG

All and all, Pryor is doing pretty good. More confident, poised and in comand

ON that throw and others, TP still arm throwing, not using lower half of his body by setting feet. . That’s something tht takes thousands of throws to develop muscle memory.

    >>>

Get used to it. He’s thrown a million times wrong.

That said, he looks better than Flynn.

    He needs to just run…

  • 0ak r8rs

Wow. Warren sapp and Irvin managed to go an entire halftime without mentioning the Raiders. Shocking.

What we don’t know is how TP will read regular season defenses or react to them. These are vanilla defenses.

    I saw nothing with Flynn.

  • oc_outlaw

Am I the only one that is dreaming of TP running the option or pistol with DMC and Reece? Talk about a versatile set of options.
