Raiders-Cowboys underway

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, August 9th, 2013 at 7:14 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders first possession ended when Matt Flynn was hit on a blindside sack by Sean Lee, losing a fumble to Jason Hatcher . . .

– Sixth-round draft pick Stacy McGee joined third-round pick Sio Moore as rookies in the starting lineup as projected starting tackles Pat Sims (injury) and Vance Walker (paternity leave) were scratched.

– Raiders captains were Charles Woodson and Nick Roach on defense, Flynn and McFadden on offense and Janikowski on special teams. Woodson received the biggest cheer when the defense was introduced before the game.

It was Woodson’s first time at the Coliseum as a Raider since the a 30-21 loss to the New York Giants to end the 2005 season.

– Friday was the first game with the east side third deck structure unofficially known as Al Davis closed. A black tarp adorned with a huge Raiders shield covered approximate 7,000 seats.

Also closed were three sections in the original third deck at the outer edges leading in to the east side deck.

Capacity for the Coliseum this season will be 53,000.

– With the press box elevator breaking down at around 5 p.m., Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin was assisted by a two media members who went to the bottom floor and led him through a kitchen area before Coliseum staff took over.

– It was the fourth time in five seasons Dallas served as the Raiders’ first preseason opponent. The Cowboys won 3-0 in Oakland in 2012, the Raiders won 17-9 in Dallas in 2010 and also won 31-10 in Oakland in 2009.

– Contest winners Deja Bryson and James Greer sang God Bless America and the National Anthem before the game.

    FIRST PRESEASON GAME KIDS

TP has looked good… it’s good that he’s learning these lessons right now. just learn from the bad experiences… he seems to be the type that can do that in a hurry. time will tell

  • Stringer Bell

That was a good decision there.

Pryor has shown improvement in my eyes. Looks alot crisper. Aside from the redzone mistakes I think he has progressed.

Raider unis look as bad as those of the Niners the other last night–guys with different length socks and most of all, ugly black shoes. Fix the damn socks and wear white shoes!

    Come on, TP–bad clock management.-

  • Raider8

Pryor looked good. Except for that back breaking interception.

    Points are overrated anyway.

  • The_Judge37

Endzone or nothing Pryor. Be Smart

I wonder how many of you who are saying TP CHOKED in the red zone are CP supporters?
    You monkeys are retarded!

  • Breaking_Black

Flores and Plunkett make me wish I was deaf.

  • Stringer Bell

That’s the thing that I like about Pryor is that he has put in the work to improve. He may not be a better qb than Flynn right now, but he has way more upside.

What I like the most so far…….NO ONE can use the “pryor cant throw, he floats them” reason to diss him. All those people are hushed for good.

  • 0ak r8rs

Pryor is way better than last year. Mechanics. Presence. Composure.

Yea, he threw across the middle and made a bad pick in the end zone. No better game to learn that lesson than preseason game 1.

I’m moving towards the dark side (no racist pun intended, don’t even start). Flynn looked ok. But Pryor looked dynamic.

  • VanHeathen30

if this offense doesn’t get it’s protection right, Pryor will be starting soon enough. Flynn will get killed back there if they keep whiffing on the blitzing lb’s…

ON that throw and others, TP still arm throwing, not using lower half of his body by setting feet. . That’s something tht takes thousands of throws to develop muscle memory.

he certainly looks more confident. and his balls have more zip on them. still looks like a weapon when running. need him on the field in some capacity.

TP threw a pick in the redzone.

Flynn lost a fumble and gave Dallas the ball at the Raiders 16
