McKenzie: Wait and see on Veldheer’s return

General manager Reggie McKenzie said it’s too early to determine how long the Raiders will be without left tackle Jared Veldheer, who underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn left triceps.

“We probably won’t know until the second week of rehab,’’ McKenzie said.

Jim Veldheer, the father of Jared Veldheer, tweeted, “Jared is in recovery. All went well.’’

McKenzie, talking before the Raiders preseason game against the Saints, said it was his understanding Veldheer’s injury wasn’t as serious as the ones sustained by 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith and Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis.

It remains likely, however, that Veldheer will be placed on the designated for return injured reserve list, meaning the earliest he could return would be in the eighth game of the season on Nov. 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Raiders won’t make that move until cutting the roster to the final 53, with Veldheer included in that number. He would then be placed on injured reserve, taking him off the roster, and the Raiders can add another player.

In the meantime, the Raiders will keep an eye out for available tackles, although McKenzie aid, “We’re not looking to just bring in bodies. Veldheer’s a real player and real players aren’t just hanging around out there.’’

Garbage yards and stats count, especially when you’re down 23-0.

  • ohioraider

    Flynn’s 1st half qb rating: 117.7

  • JT

So wee see Crawford playing for a roster spot…

  • JT

Flynn only salvation would be playing out of the shotgun and a fast tempo O, where he makes fast decisions…

Priesttj and the rest of your PRYOR ILK

Here I was… starting to believe you guys and Join the Pryor Team…But…Then Pryor took the Field…

Most of that Pryor team has now crawled away in shame…

I don’t want to be on a Team of Shame…

  • Bigmike34

    PRYOR PEOPLE…

You have seen both Pryor and Flynn Today….Flynn against he #1 Defense and Pryor against the #2s…

What Did Pryor do that would Justify giving him Flynn’s Job?????..

That last Drive in the First Half was the Real Flynn that we will have this year….Remember he didn’t play at all last year….and only played the one quarter last week…..Tonight without our Left Tackle to block and the O-Line not really looking good….Flynn took his 5 Sacks …Got up …And figured out a way to get the job done…You saw Matt Flynn in that last drive…

Pryor…He was his usual self…actually a little worse then Usual…What was his longest Pass??? How many did he complete?…What about all those throws at the pass rushers Feet…(I bet that kept them from coming in too fast) ….

I HAVE TO ADMIT…PRYOR WAS HIS USUAL MAGNIFICENT SELF..

Hmmmmmmmmm…..I wonder what Pryor’s QB RATING WAS… TODAY….It must have been better then last weeks???

    Hmmmmm…What was Pryor’s completion percentage?

Hmmmm….I bet he really racked up a lot of yards with his feet????

Hmmmm…How many TDs did he get us??? a lot of them I bet.. To make up for not getting any last Week

  • Bigmike34

Lets look at the Numbers…I know you Pryor people enjoy doing that…RIGHT…

Pryor the guy you always talk about having a Strong arm and can Go deep….completed 1/9 passes for 9 yards or 1.8 yards per pass….Pryor the GREAT RUNNER..4 rushes for 15 yards…3.8 per carry…QB Rating 39.6 completion% 20%….On top of his last pre-season game where he completed 42% of his passes.

  • Bigmike34

LETS MAKE THE COMPARESON EASY FOR YOU…

    Flynn Comp 12/16 (75%) …124 Yards…QB rating..117.7
    Fryer……. 1/5 (20%)……9 Yards……………39.6

Then there is FRYER the LONG PASSER THE BIG ARM…1.8 yards per Passing Attempt………….Flynn…….7.8

ALSO NOTE Pryor’s long completion was 9 yards…Flynn’s TD pass was twice as long as that.

PRYER the Great runner…4 rushes for 15 yards 3.8 per rush…

    Flynn 1 rush for 4 yards…4 yards per Rush…

    PRYER

  • Bigmike34

PRYER WILL NEVER BE AN NFL QB……BUT

THE TEAM CAN AND SHOULD START GIVING PRYOR REPS AT WIDE RECEIVER HE HAS ALL THE TANGABLES NECESSARY GOOD HANDS SIZE AND BIG TIME SPEED…..COULD BE A SLOT BACK AS WELL….IT IS A SHAME TO WASTE HIS NATURAL TALENT BY PLAYING HIM AT THE WRONG POSITION WHERE HIS ONLY FUTURE IS THE BENCH OR THE UNEMPLOYMENT LINE.

  • Bigmike34

    From Dan Hanzus NFL reporter.

Much to Flynn’s credit, he led the Raiders on an 11-play, 82-yard touchdown drive to close the second quarter, capped by a pretty 18-yard scoring strike to Denarius Moore. Flynn finished 12-of-16 passing for 124 yards and that score. Nice production, considering the circumstances.

If Flynn can stay healthy, he’s a mortal lock to be the Raiders’ Week 1 starter. Terrelle Pryor didn’t inspire confidence in three second-half series, finishing with 9 yards passing and 15 yards rushing.
