McKenzie: Wait and see on Veldheer’s return

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, August 16th, 2013 at 4:00 pm in Oakland Raiders.

General manager Reggie McKenzie said it’s too early to determine how long the Raiders will be without left tackle Jared Veldheer, who underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn left triceps.

“We probably won’t know until the second week of rehab,’’ McKenzie said.

Jim Veldheer, the father of Jared Veldheer, tweeted, “Jared is in recovery. All went well.’’

McKenzie, talking before the Raiders preseason game against the Saints, said it was his understanding Veldheer’s injury wasn’t as serious as the ones sustained by 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith and Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis.

It remains likely, however, that Veldheer will be placed on the designated for return injured reserve list, meaning the earliest he could return would be in the eighth game of the season on Nov. 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Raiders won’t make that move until cutting the roster to the final 53, with Veldheer included in that number. He would then be placed on injured reserve, taking him off the roster, and the Raiders can add another player.

In the meantime, the Raiders will keep an eye out for available tackles, although McKenzie aid, “We’re not looking to just bring in bodies. Veldheer’s a real player and real players aren’t just hanging around out there.’’

    Nice throw Flynn!

Perfect 2 minute drill! Absolutely flawless.

And, I do not see Pryor executing that.

“is there a Jerry Mac live chat someplace where I can catch up?”

We went for it on 4th down and then Brees burnt Tracy Porter for a long pass

3 and out New Orleans scores again

3 and out New Orleans scores again

We cant run the ball (well DMAC cant) Jenkins seems to do a better job. Flynn is getting beat up and throwing horrible passes the look like TP6 passes.

Ausberry was the only bright spot tonight and he got hurt.

NOW YOU ARE UP TO SPEED RR!!!!!!!

    That was vs. NO’s 1st string D.

  • The_Judge37

    Give us MOORE!

  • alex7

Flynn now hitting on 73% of his throws with an average of over 10 yards per completion.

Pryor last week hit on 60% of his throws for a lower average per completion.

And Flynn did it with THIS O-line and no starting WRs.

  • DJ Johnny

Garbage time TD. Just like Palmer.

  • 0ak r8rs

Beautiful TD pass. So palmeresque. Down 23 then we decide to score. Against the 2s.

Reggie better find a left tackle Right Now! This team has nobody else to fill in for Veldheer.

    ==============

He’s in STL. See Al drafted Barksdale so that means he can’t play. We’ve completely dismantled an OL that was top 10 in rushing for 2 straight years. Giving up Satele for Briesel was another Shreg gem

About time we scored. Good to see Butler with the starting receivers. Oakland might have something special there.

That was a flawless 2 minute drill. Considering the lack of protection when NO was bringing the heat, Flynn is the undisputed starter. He’s going to keep us in a lot of games this year. There is no other QB on our roster that would have executed that 2 min. drill like Flynn just did. That was a beauty.

Yep… The oline has looked pretty pitiful

  • The_Judge37

So here’s the game plan, let Pryor start.

Once we get into the Redzone, we bring in Flynn for the 18 yard Hail Mary

Flynn finally threw to the WRs.

  • redshirt

Jim Trotter said on KHTK last week that Flynn has been making all the safe throws the coaches want in practice and that Pryor still isn’t ready to play in this league, per the coaching staff. Take that for what it’s worth.

  • beach

Give Flynn some credit. He put up 7 points. That was a nice sign of heart!

  • alex7

    12-16, 124 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT.

With zero protection or running game.

From a guy acquired for a 5th rounder and making chump change salary that EVERYONE knows isn’t a “carry the team” talent.

    I’ll take it.

  • http://www.christianitydisproved.com/ Silverandblack666

“That was a flawless 2 minute drill.”

I doubt we win more than 5 games all year and its nothing to get excited about.

  • Cervantes74

    BS Alex7.

That was a good drive by Flynn. Good downfield routes by the receivers. Excellent timing by Flynn and now that he finally decided to start taking some risks.

That was against 1st team D practicing 2 minute drives.

    That was legit by Flynn.

He’s got to do a Fast Break Offense to be effective, which I have no problem watching.

Oh good grief. Check out last year’s preseason games. Watch Barksdale being continually beat by third-string DEs who are now bagging groceries.

  • RaidO

Should have put Pryor in the second half with the first teams.

Going with Flynn as the stater will be a disaster

GG, a TD at the end of the half counts the same as a TD in the 1st quarter.

I’m sorry Flynn can’t go toe-to-toe with Drew Brees.
    Remember he’s a 5th-round acquired low-salary stop-gap.
