McKenzie: Wait and see on Veldheer’s return

General manager Reggie McKenzie said it’s too early to determine how long the Raiders will be without left tackle Jared Veldheer, who underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn left triceps.

“We probably won’t know until the second week of rehab,’’ McKenzie said.

Jim Veldheer, the father of Jared Veldheer, tweeted, “Jared is in recovery. All went well.’’

McKenzie, talking before the Raiders preseason game against the Saints, said it was his understanding Veldheer’s injury wasn’t as serious as the ones sustained by 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith and Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis.

It remains likely, however, that Veldheer will be placed on the designated for return injured reserve list, meaning the earliest he could return would be in the eighth game of the season on Nov. 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Raiders won’t make that move until cutting the roster to the final 53, with Veldheer included in that number. He would then be placed on injured reserve, taking him off the roster, and the Raiders can add another player.

In the meantime, the Raiders will keep an eye out for available tackles, although McKenzie aid, “We’re not looking to just bring in bodies. Veldheer’s a real player and real players aren’t just hanging around out there.’’

That was a flawless 2 minute drill. Considering the lack of protection when NO was bringing the heat, Flynn is the undisputed starter. He’s going to keep us in a lot of games this year. There is no other QB on our roster that would have executed that 2 min. drill like Flynn just did. That was a beauty.

    BS Alex7.

That was a good drive by Flynn. Good downfield routes by the receivers. Excellent timing by Flynn and now that he finally decided to start taking some risks.

That was against 1st team D practicing 2 minute drives.

    That was legit by Flynn.

He’s got to do a Fast Break Offense to be effective, which I have no problem watching.

Flynn missing Mastrud wide open for a potential TD (I say potential because Mastrud doesn’t have the fastest set of wheels as an in-line blocking TE) was atrocious.

Then, Flynn proceeded to get bent over and ravaged double-penetration style by Saints defenders getting free shots due to shoddy O-line play.

Of Flynn’s 12 completions and 124 yards, about 9 or 10 of them were check-downs and dunks of no more than 7 yards, and about 90 of the 124 yards from check-downs.

Only 1 throw 20 yards or more.

There was a 10-15 yard strike to Moore early. Then the 24 yarder to Butler. Then the 17 yard TD to Moore.

    Also the missed Mastrud play.

Idk how to evaluate Flynn that half. He missed a WIDE OPEN guy that could still be running. Made a nice 2 minute drive. Threw behind a bunch of guys in between. But basically had no time. What a mess.
