Raiders claim Thomas

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, August 20th, 2013 at 3:26 pm in Oakland Raiders.

A press release from the Raiders:

The Oakland Raiders have claimed LB Chase Thomas via waivers, General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot-3, 241-pound Thomas originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in April and was waived by the team on Monday.

Thomas appeared in 52 games over four seasons at Stanford, making 47 starts. He recorded 229 tackles, 27.5 sacks, 50.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, nine forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

During his senior campaign, the Marietta, Ga., native finished second on the team with 71 tackles, tied for second with 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, one interception, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He was an All-Pac 12 first-team choice for the second-consecutive season.

To create space on the roster, the Raiders waived/injured T John Wetzel.

Raider E can’t get that here, is it a Sirrius network station?

  • J Hill

Allegedly, the owner has already stepped in and demanded Pryor play.

    Obviously likes the kid.

Why would the GM and HC risk getting fired by burying the OWNER’S GUY??!!??!!??

  • elraidmanhattan

J Hill sorry Pryor has gotten no time, obvious please.

Two cents, what is ur email?

  • Raider E

You really think the GM and HC are going to sit down and make the decision to sit a player they KNOW is better and have to explain THAT to the owner???

    ——————————–

You really think the HC is confident in starting a QB who throws 3ints, fumbles a snap, and has 2 passes batted down in 1 practice?

    How could he be?

  • http://www.christianitydisproved.com/ Silverandblack666

“I am sure the GM would happy to sit the guy he traded for and is paying millions of dollars to sit on the bench.

Mark Davis would love Reggie for that.”

Mark traded for Palmer then let Reggie ship him out of town.

Its the GM’s job to accumulate talent its the HC job to say who plays on Sunday.

The owner should be agnostic to these processes.

  • elraidmanhattan

Reggie i think is doing a good job, but 2 things stick out against him

Switch to zbs and letting allen pick staff.

    Bush,

He has not been given a fair shot. If you disagree then so be it.

Many think the same as me.
    =========================================

Many may think the same, but none of them are in the league. And let me elaborate. It is VERY unfair to 62 guys, 53 actives, and the taxi squad guys to stand around and get their asses kicked while one guy “develops”. And if that one guy is John Elway, or Andrew Luck, guys will take their lumps and go with it. If it is someone like Pryor, the reality is, he has to come in and be lights out, otherwise, he got his chance. He wasn’t lights out. He got his chance.

Cuz mark davis never demanded Pryor.

    That’s just guessing.

But if it was true, Reggie wouldn’t have traded for flynn and drafted Wilson.

He would have had a free pass. “Hey mark. I will play Pryor but remember its ur call.”

I like the pickups of roach and burnett real lb’s that play hard.

Pryor still needs to play period the end.

Remember Bush ‘AKA OaklGlen said “Anybody with half a brain can see JaMarcus is a franchise Qb” so his analysis of any QB should be taken with a grain of salt or less.

Raider E thanks! I will now get Sirrius, honestly i didn’t have it now i have a reason to get it

  • the famous dr robert

If Pryor was great, he would take the job.

He would do what McGloin is doing.

Step on the field and impress.

    B1tches say “no fair!”

  • J Hill

looked like all they did was line him up in the pistol and said “run read option”

    —————————————————————————-

He’s new to this offense and they want him to be prolific in his reads.

Speaking of reads, why doesn’t he audible into the passing plays you are talking about?

    I like the screen calls.

The TD run that was called back was a drop back.

The pass attempt to Butler on the sidelines.

The completion for a 1st down.

I think they are more than happy with his play. That’s the reason he isn’t being trotted out there for an audition.

53 on the roster, 47 actives, and the rest is practice squad. Regardless, we will have to agree to disagree.

  • http://raiders.com Seymour Bush

Look, to make you all feel better, Pryor will once again, get extended playing time, against scrubs on Friday night. He has to be lights out. Right now he is completing about 40% of his passes. Against scrubs. I would expect guys like Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, and Larry Fitzgerald to complete about 40% of their passes against scrubs.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Im sure if pryor gets to play with the starting o line it will look way better.

why would the oline look improved with pryor?

because pryor seems to be light years ahead of phlegm when it comes to calling protections identifying fronts finding his hots, and calling audibles

  • Al_is_theraiders

    4.91 camp body…

  • JLofty

Bass and Robinson made some nice plays on Fri against the Aint’s 3s…
They are just young and therefore inexperienced. Takes time to learn to play fast in the NFL. Sadly our team will suffer while they ramp up on the learning curve.
It takes a few years to load the roster. We are not there yet….

  • http://repealitnow.org MistaBrown

McGloin is doing nothing. Only a few idiots with the football IQ of 5 think McGloin is anything.

Seymour Bush prob thinks McGloin is a “franchise qb” along the same lines as JaMarcus was.

i dont think they have that in the ‘package’ play book

no way you should the oc call any kind of run pay including an option run when he defense is in a 46 front with 10 men committed to the run.

That was when pryor should have the full playbook. Simply motion out of the diamond with two of the backs, and send them wide

this spreads the defenses and sets up quick slants outs pump and go and so on

this is how rg3 and shanarat killed the nfl last year

Hill, i hope you are correct and perhaps they just havent gotten that far installing the offense as of yet

Ahhh. This has been a hope of mine all along, that they were just being overly cautious with these guys.

  • JLofty

Not to perpetuate the Flynn/Pryor debate but Flynn has NOT looked sharp on the pre-snap stuff or even the post snap hot read.
Watched him totally ignore Marcel Reece heading to flat as a LB who was obviously blitzing off the left side was coming. Result = forced/hurried throw behind someone in the middle. Reece would STILL be running if he went there.
Fact is Pryor actually looked more adept at this stuff than Flynn did with less chance and playbook.

Really would have liked to see Pryor get some time with the ones in a ps game….

    ==========================================

Remember, Pryor has played one full NFL game, and two quarters, without ANYONE GAME PLANNING HIM. And he has been terrible. What happens when bona fide NFL DC’s with bona fide NFL defensive starters with something to play for go against him? While right now he is completing 40% of his passes for basically 4 yards an attempt?
