Raiders sign tackle Tony Hills

The Raiders addressed a glaring need at tackle Tuesday with the addition of free agent Tony Hills.

Hills has played in 10 games over five seasons with one start for Pittsburgh, Denver and Indianapolis. He was released by the Buffalo Bills Sunday.

A former fourth-round draft pick (No., 130 overall) in the 2008 draft, Hills played in 42 games at Texas, with 24 starts at left tackle.

With Jared Veldheer out indefinitely following triceps surgery, Menelik Watson unavailable with a calf injury and undrafted free agent John Wetzel out with a knee injury, the only true tackles on the roster are starters Alex Barron and Khalif Barnes and reserve Willie Smith.

The Raiders have also been using Tony Bergstrom at tackle of late.

To make room on the roster, place kicker Eddy Carmona was waived/injured. Once he clears waivers, Carmona can be added to the Raiders injured reserve list and rehab until healthy.

Hayden’s a guy we can all root for!!just such a risk with a 1st round pick when you have one of the worst rosters in the nil

Watson will have missed entire training camp for a calf injury. must be more serious than talked about

A grade 2 strain in one or more of the muscles in the lower leg fits the timetable. And it’s not something you want to force since you can easily make it worse and end up fully tearing the muscle.

    Streater, Moore, Butler, Holmes (susp 1st 4 gms), Ford, & Criner turning into a solid and deep WR corp;
    ——

Holmes and Criner havn’t done $h!t so far and Ford hasn’t even played. WR might be our worst offensive group next to Oline, which is behind QB and TE but ahead of RB.

Have to agree that Criner hasn’t done chit yet. I really don’t like the guy: he held out his rookie year as a low round draft pic and then reports were that midway through his first year he had not learned the playbook. Kind of a Jamarcus-Type WR.

It really begs the question does’nt it? why risk it with all the talent on a heavy Offensive/Defensive line Draft last?

As is obvious from our preseason LINE is a big area of need.

Criner sort of though of himself as a made man I guess after the early offseason last year. Hope he’s learned his lesson and starts dedicating himself. Otherwise, don’t let the door hit ya.

“It is a little presumptuous to say Murray was smoking dank.”

You say that like its a bad thing?
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
it is if you’re an NFL player but you’re just a player okay

you would hope though that he would have enough sense not to smoke it in a parking lot

although I did smoke It once on a BART train I got away with it we were on the way to a Reader game

In preseason 2012, the Baltimore Ravens had the least amount of cap space. The Browns and Jags we in the top 3 for cap space in 2012 and also in 2013 as well. Cap space means very little if you dont use it and you dont pick the right personnel. Al really struggled in the salary cap era and the jury is out if Reggie is capable of finding gems .
recently the cowboys were about 10-15 mil over the cap and very quickly have now reversed their cap situation and are 10 mil under. Its not brain surgery to mange the cap, its how you set your priorities. But bottom line, the true test of any GM is how he can BUILD a team, not reduce salary

watson was in the risk category too. Could see a team like the Pats taking the risk, but while rooting hard especially for Hayden, we need players contributing on the field not full of potential on the sidelines. Really excited to see Hayden play friday, hope he cuts it loose like reggie said

the only thing cap Space does for you is let you sign your top players to long-term contracts
because you know what them players can do some free agents you bring in you really don’t know what they’re like so cap Space can really help you

Mark is not going to be happy if the free agents that Reggie signed don’t play very much

Based on what I saw the other night in New Orleans, we are in for a long, frustrating season. We looked like garbage out there.

For those of you who claim that it’s just preseason and not time to raise any alarms, why or how is it that the other team came out sharp and ready to play?

Anybody who believes we’re just not showing all of our playbook is delusional. This team has a lot of problems. I wish I had the time to analyze and address all of them, unfortunately I do not. I can tell you this, one of the main problems is that coach of ours. The guy has no life or spark to him. He looks and coaches like he is in way over his head. Just once I’d like to see him run up to a player, asst. coach, referee, somebody and see him get passionate about SOMETHING! Nothing personal, the guy just doesn’t have it. Maybe at some point in the distant future he may become a qualified coach, it’s just ridiculous that Reggie is allowing him to get his on the job training with our Raiders.

I’ve been watching this team long enough to see that “it”, sadly, is just not there again this year. It being competitive RAIDER FOOTBALL.

    F$#K!
