Raiders sign tackle Tony Hills

The Raiders addressed a glaring need at tackle Tuesday with the addition of free agent Tony Hills.

Hills has played in 10 games over five seasons with one start for Pittsburgh, Denver and Indianapolis. He was released by the Buffalo Bills Sunday.

A former fourth-round draft pick (No., 130 overall) in the 2008 draft, Hills played in 42 games at Texas, with 24 starts at left tackle.

With Jared Veldheer out indefinitely following triceps surgery, Menelik Watson unavailable with a calf injury and undrafted free agent John Wetzel out with a knee injury, the only true tackles on the roster are starters Alex Barron and Khalif Barnes and reserve Willie Smith.

The Raiders have also been using Tony Bergstrom at tackle of late.

To make room on the roster, place kicker Eddy Carmona was waived/injured. Once he clears waivers, Carmona can be added to the Raiders injured reserve list and rehab until healthy.

Is Ford practicing for TWO STRAIGHT DAYS?

What’s the story w Latavious Murray? Does anyone know? I saw a tweet from Levi confirming that DA said it wasn’t due to off field issues. But that guy has dropped off the face of the earth. Does anybody know what’s going on w that guy?

  • Raider E

Ford is also still on the field trying to string together 2 practices in a row for the first time this season.

Well at least Pat Sims and Vance Walker are practicing.

And that is my positive going into today!

Getting alot healthier defensively. I’m not sweating Branch either. Sore ribs is nothing, if it was gameday he’d be out there.

It’d be great to see Sims, Walker and Hayden all playing Fri nite.

We might get an idea of what this defense will look like in reg season.

The Murray deal is something we will not find out till next offseason if ever.

Ah. Well then that would make sense. Ok. So lets say that is the case? You think Reggie and DA have put him in some sort of in house suspension or something? Outside drug treatment to cover their @sses w the NFL?

Because DA did talk about Murray’s availability and accountability last week. Didn’t understand what he was getting at. But didn’t sound good.

Back in the spring, back when Veldheer was posing for those hulkamania photos with his buddies in the gym, I was convinced we had a strong if not decent O-line.

What with little Wiz at center and Monster Melenik sure to usurp Barnes at right tackle, you could pencil a couple of chumps in at the guards from our collection of stiffs and we’d blow teams off the line with Sparano’s PBS.

Fast forward to now. It looks like it was all Veldheer plus some chewing gum and bailing wire. Must have been drinking the spiked koolaid! oh brother.

We don’t have some way to get the ball in the end zone when we get in the red zone

C Bass will set a world record for kicking field goals we just can’t get the ball in the end zone the last two years it’s been that way

  • DJ Johnny

It’s been doom and gloom all week really because of Veldheer and the first half against New Orleans.

We get some guys back healthy…which we are and then a good showing vs.Chicago and hey…things look up a little bit.

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been trying to say.

    90+ almost always means playoffs.

    ********

I’d like to see the stats on that analysis. just to be sure. You know what makes playoffs? Ability to punch the ball in the end zone. You look at the teams who can optimize scoring drives in the red zone with 7 points instead of 3, and you can name all the playoff teams before the season even starts. It’s a direct correlation. game managers get FG’s. franchise QB’s punch the damn ball across the line.
    *********
There all kinda of teams and variables.

But it’s really high percentage. 90+ qbs usually make the playoffs.

    Go check it out.

    And it makes sense.

The nfl has a lot of close games.

These guys can move the ball with regularity and consistently get to the RZ.

And most importantly, they don’t screw it up.

Just go t look at the the qbs that were 90+ last year.

    How did their teams do?

I’m telling u, we have a guy in Flynn who can get us there.

not jumping to conclusions on Murray, but this seems to be exactly what’s wrong with this younger generation. Even a 6th round pick can’t put down the weed when he’s got the opportunity of a lifetime. Kids these days too stupid to recognize how quickly the NFL not for long is.

    ======================================

First-time drug offenses are treated as an internal matter between the player, the team and the league.

    Second-time offenders get a four-game suspension.

Third-time offender get suspended for a year.

Four times and it’s a lifetime ban, but you’re eligible for reinstatement after a year.

This means Andre Holmes already got with PEDs once before he even came here. It’s also why I have zero sympathy for anyone who gets a suspension: it’s at least their second offense. QUIT DOING IT ALREADY.

I don’t have any sympathy neither. But the reason they continue to cheat is that deep down, they know they don’t have the God Given skillset to sustain employment in the NFL and they are dying to make NFL money. So they cheat and hope and pray they don’t get caught. What’s the downside? Get kicked out the league and make arena football money?
