Raiders looking at a kicker

Raiders coach Dennis Allen made no mention of it during his injury rundown with the media, but place kicker Sebastian Janikowski came out late to practice wearing a ball cap while Chris Kluwe was attempting field goals.

After practice, members of the personnel staff were working out a left-footed place kicker the far field. Janikowski was forced back into a 36-24 loss to the Chicago Bears after Eddy Carmona was injured (he was later waived/injured). Janikowski kicked a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter.

It makes no sense to put Watson in at LT.
    It smacks of desperation.

The guy’s only played three semesters of college level football with one at the junior college level and he played RT and sometimes looked like he was lost.

If we’re that badly off on the offensive line and we have to try out Watson because it’s a rebuilding year then fine.

But it seems to make a whole more sense to put Barnes in LT, who played that positon for years, and try Watson at the only position that he has any experience–RT.

That way, if Watson is working out when Veldheer comes back, he just replaces Barnes who last year was so bad he could have been replaced by a stick ion the ground

Watson may may have a lot of natural skills, and I’m pulling for the even if he is a Man City fan, but he’s not fuk’n Superman.

Not sure how much it will matter in this Seattle game though because Seattle isn’t going to risk injury to play the Raiders in the last pre-season game.

So it could be a soft game for Watson and not much of a challenge for Pryor.

    Judge,

Is that in Dennis Allen’s opinion? I’m talking about what’s really happening, who’s really going to start, not about what fans want.
    ——–

Well, D.A.Cup is an idiot so it’s very possible Flynn could remain the permanent starter. But logically, there’s no way Pryor hasn’t won the job already.

the ideal would be for Watson to stick with one being as raw as he is, but that’s where good coaching comes in

They are saying the exact same things about TP that thy said about Kappy last year. he’s green he’s not ready he doesn’t know the playbook he can’t make all the throws he’s not smart enough. I was listening to Papa earlier and he was saying the same thing he said about Kappy. He LOVES Alex Smiths dirty drawers and he didn’t think Kap would be consistent enough to run the offense……..the big difference is Flynn is just as green and on the contrary TP is hands down a better passer than Flynn. Flynn is a checkdown artist, while TP uses the entire field. Just the basic truth…….period

NFL Preseason: Why Oakland Raiders Quarterback Matt Flynn Is the New Kevin Kolb

MMENTARY | Matt Flynn was awful Friday night. But he wasn’t just awful — he was painfully awful.
As a matter of fact, he was so awful that the home crowd drowned him in “boos” before the first half was even over. At that point, the Oakland Raiders trailed the Chicago Bears 27-0.
It can’t be all that surprising. After all, the crowd’s not going to cheer for you when you’re only 3 of 6 for 19 yards and throw two interceptions.
The crowd wanted Terrelle Pryor, the exciting, raw, athletic freak who the Raiders plan to use a lot more this year — and probably even more now after Flynn stunk up the O.co Coliseum.
To be fair, Flynn got absolutely no help from his sorry excuse of an offensive line. It’s nearly impossible to get anything going when you have less than two seconds to get rid of the ball.
But the fact of the matter is that nobody, except for general manager Reggie McKenzie, was ever sold on Flynn in the first place.
He’s never proven a thing since he’s been in the NFL. He’s made two starts in five years, and the one that got everybody going was a meaningless Week 17 game two years ago.
Yes, it was meaningless. And it was against a horrendous Detroit Lions secondary. Yet, after that game where he threw six touchdowns, he became one of the hottest tickets in free agency talk. He was so hot that the Seattle Seahawks were willing to make him their future.
But as history would show, that would not last long.
Now, Flynn is in serious danger of losing his presumptive staring job for the second year in a row. Granted, Russell Wilson wasn’t your average rookie, but Flynn has yet to do anything that’s blown anyone away.
Kevin Kolb, anybody? The similarities are all-too identical.
Kolb had some decent games in Philadelphia once upon a time ago, and everyone thought he was going to be the next big thing. Well, he wasn’t.
He got a huge contract from the Arizona Cardinals in 2011 after the Eagles decided to make Michael Vick their guy. During Kolb’s two years in the desert, he turned the ball over 20 times while throwing just 17 touchdowns.
Not exactly the next big thing.
Now, he may no longer have an NFL career after suffering a concussion over the weekend against the Washington Redskins.
But unlike Kolb, Flynn hasn’t disappointed to that level yet. But that’s only because he’s never actually won the starting job.
After all, you have get the starting job and then be bad in order to fully disappoint.
Flynn will always come with baggage if Pryor steals his job in Oakland. He’ll always be remembered as the guy who lost his starting job twice in two years before the season even started.
Nobody wants to be that guy. Unfortunately, Pryor is the more exciting player who possesses the athleticism to deal with Oakland’s putrid line.
Flynn is a traditional pocket passer who looks like a fish out of water trying to hurry his passes before he’s slammed to the ground in a matter of seconds. Just like Kolb.
Neither quarterback is going to lead any team to greatness. They’ll both try their hardest, but they’ll still come up short at the end of the day.
Just don’t tell that to the general managers who blindly overpaid for their less-than-mediocre services.
The true quarterback always comes out in the end. Unfortunately, for Kevin Kolb and Matt Flynn, everyone else is seeing that firsthand.
