Raiders looking at a kicker

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 26th, 2013 at 2:21 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen made no mention of it during his injury rundown with the media, but place kicker Sebastian Janikowski came out late to practice wearing a ball cap while Chris Kluwe was attempting field goals.

After practice, members of the personnel staff were working out a left-footed place kicker the far field. Janikowski was forced back into a 36-24 loss to the Chicago Bears after Eddy Carmona was injured (he was later waived/injured). Janikowski kicked a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter.

“He’s never proven a thing since he’s been in the NFL. He’s made two starts in five years, and the one that got everybody going was a meaningless Week 17 game two years ago.
Yes, it was meaningless. And it was against a horrendous Detroit Lions secondary.”

Robert, that’s what I’m reading, too. The most recent article I can find which mentions the official reason that Pryor is starting says that Flynn is resting his arm.
    ********
    That’s the facts.

These guys start saying things and quote each other and soon they think its real.

  • http://raiderettes.com MR..realest of the real, stickiest of the icky

As far as anyone knows, based on everything that has been released by the team officially, Flynn is resting his arm, that is why Pryor is starting thur. The team has given no decision as to who starts week one. So, Pryor will have one chance to prove he should be the starter by week one, against a second string Seattle defense? That doesn’t bode well for his odds. I can’t see Allen demoting his starting QB based on preseason play alone, especially when he’d be replacing his starter with someone who has only faced second string squads.

“They are saying the exact same things about TP that thy said about Kappy last year.”

Yes this is true I can hear these things!!!

Our o-line is one of the best!

Our running game is top 5 in the NFL

    We have world class WR’s!

We have a great Head Coach!

We have been in the playoff the last few years all we need is an arm to take up to the Super Bowl.

Those would be things they said about the 49ers last year when Kappy was about to take over.

    US NOT SO MUCH!!!!

Get it right Einstein we are no where near as good as the 49ers when Kappy took over!

Judge, I’ve done my research. There is no article which quotes Allen as saying that Pryor is starting due to Flynn’s play. Only ones I can find say that Flynn is resting his arm. Are you just being silly right now?

Why do you need an article? Did you not see him get the hook on Friday?

  • Chris in NY

I think DA begrudgingly starts Pryor unless the Seattle game — which will be an incredibly tough challenge for any of our QBs — gives him enough of a shield to stay with Flynn. Going into the season, Flynn was definitely their guy because he was the safer choice and they felt that going with Flynn would have been a safer play for their own job security.

Now the entire tide of public opinion has turned and they’re in a position where starting Flynn is the real career gamble.

  • elraidmanhattan

It is so obvious who are trolls here, like some ugly perverts on a dating site,

  • raidertalk

I dunno. Before Pryor came in something was just not right. I am starting to think that DA was not trying to win the game but had another goal in mind (Talent eval maybe?). People who actually watched it could see that every single drive began with two running plays and a pass on 3rd down even down 24-0!

    Did anyone else notice this?

  • http://www.christianitydisproved.com/ Silverandblack666

Both Kappy and Wilson had fantastic o-lines with solid running games.

It was not all on their shoulders to win games. Can you say the same about Pryor?

  • Marks hair

other than the injured starters, how many raider starters do you think will not suit up for game 4?

    2? maybe 1?

  • http://raiderettes.com MR..realest of the real, stickiest of the icky

    Whoknows,

The only official reason Allen has given thus far as to why Pryor has or will start in Flynn’s place is that Flynn’s resting his arm. Not at any point has Allen said that Pryor’s now his guy. Allen’s quote about Flynn’s arm is more recent than the game. I’m going with the most recent information we have.

  • elraidmanhattan

Chris one thing that really scared me was when Flynn was called a time manager, sorry that doesn’t fly in today’s NFL

  • elraidmanhattan

Flynn was product of the system in green bay,, nothing more

  • Priesttj12

Harbaugh used a concussion as an excuse to get Kappy in there. And he had an extablished starter but when you see the kind of talent that those two kids possess. How can you justify sitting it while the guy is checking down the ball and going 3 and out. Any coach in his right mind wants to see the gifted player help him win. EVEN if he’s been reticent before Flynn will make a throw per game or a play per game. TP will do that per drive, He is just that lethal as I said before it’s irrepressible. The coach is going to wonder would we be punting right now if TP were in the game?

  • raidertalk

I still have some hope for the season and defensive improvement.
One–three and outs kept the d on the field all day.

Two–When we did blitz, which was not too often, we started getting pressure on Cutler.

Three–we are slowly getting back D players from injury Maiava, Sims, Walker(?).

“It has been a great week for Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Q: How tight is this quarterback competition, and when do you expect to make a decision?
Coach Allen: We’ll I’m not going to put a timetable on it. Obviously we open up in 13 days. That’s coming sooner rather than later. I think it’s been a good competition. We’ve got a couple of options there that are going to give us a chance.

Listen, Pryor needs seasoning he needs game action to get better, any moron who counts him out is a loser just from his comments to his work ethic tells me so much, he wants to succeed he wants his teammates to love him, it is refreshing. • the famous dr robert

Q: To what do you attribute Terrelle [Pryor’s] growth in the preseason? Do you think it’s all the work he did in the offseason, the new offense or a little bit of both?
Coach Allen: Well I think it’s probably a combination of those things. He’s put a lot of work in during the offseason. He wants to be really good, and he’s got some talent. He’s done some nice things in the preseason. He’s still got a lot of work to do. I think he understands that, but the thing that he brings is he does bring an element of that athleticism that allows him to get out of trouble sometimes and make plays with his feet. I think, and I’ve said this all along about Terrelle, Terrelle works extremely hard. I think any time you’ve got a talented player that works extremely hard, he’s got a chance to get better.

T.PRYOR deserves to be the starter for our Raiders.Hes big, strong, fast, and athletic.Alls he need is more experience.

Another thing is I don’t know why some of you are touting/defending Flynn when by some reports he’s been this “laid back” guy who according to Warren Moon “wasn’t the type of guy to stay late and do work”.

    Whoknows,

Going by statements given by the team, all I can make of Flynn being pulled is that his arm hurt. That’s all the team has said. There has been only one official reason given by the team for Flynn not starting at any point in this season so far, past, present, or future, and that is that his arm is hurt. At no point have the Raiders said that Flynn has been demoted. Never at any point. There is no article which quotes the Raiders as having said such a thing.

  • the famous dr robert

Q: When Terrelle [Pryor] is on the field, how does that change the dynamic of the offense? Do receivers make adjustments?
Coach Allen: I don’t think it’s a big issue as far as a receiver making an adjustment. The thing that Terrelle brings is he brings some athleticism. We’re going to put him in there on Thursday night against Seattle, and we’re going to give him an opportunity to show what he can do.

    Stop trolling:

Pryor, Flynn competing for Raiders starter QB role

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) – Terrelle Pryor will likely get some work running the Oakland Raiders’ first-team offense in practice this week following an impressive preseason performance.

Whether he can win the starting quarterback job remains to be seen.

Coach Dennis Allen said Saturday the quarterback competition remains open one day after Pryor completely outplayed Matt Flynn in a 34-26 exhibition loss to the Chicago Bears.

Allen has said the main criteria for picking the starter will be who gives the offense a better chance to score. Right now that is decidedly in Pryor’s favor after he led four scoring drives and provided a spark that energized the Oakland Coliseum crowd and created a quarterback controversy with two weeks left before the start of the regular season.

Still waiting on anyone to post any article which quotes anyone with the Raiders saying that Flynn has been demoted. No such article exists, and it’s because no such quote exists. Nobody with the Raiders has announced that Matt Flynn has been demoted on the depth chart. Nobody. Official reason given by the Raiders for Pryor starting Thursday is that Flynn’s arm is sore. That’s it.

Well if DA starts, and we lose, and he sticks with him he will be iviscerated not only by the Raider fan base but also second guessed by all these media guys (reputable ones not just hacks)who say he should go with Pryor.

At this point it would take more guts to start Flynn.

It’d be the wrong choice imo but none the less a ballsy one given the current climate.
