Raiders sign PK Medlock, trim four

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 at 11:23 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed former Mission San Jose place kicker Justin Medlock and trimmed four players from the roster Tuesday to get to the NFL limit of 75 players.

Medlock worked out for the Raiders Monday, with the team in need of a kicker for Thursday night’s game in Seattle because of an apparent injury to Sebastian Janikowski.

Linebacker Miles Burris, a 15-game starter lat season, was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss at least the first six games of the season.

Placed on injured reserve, meaning they won’t play for the Raiders this season, were cornerback Joselio Hanson and running back Latavius Murray. Murray, a fifth-round draft pick out of Central Florida, had recent arthroscopic ankle surgery.

The Raiders also waived cornerback Mitchell White.

Medlock, who played in college at UCLA, has played in 11 games, 10 with the Caroilina Panthers, and is 8-for-12 on field goal attempts. He also played two season for the Toronto Argonauts (2009-10) and one season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2011).

Medlock, who had six field goals of 50 yards or more in college, was a college teammate of punter Chris Klwue in 2003 and 2004 and was a sixth-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs.

    Seymour, does Flynn look like a better option?
    ===============================================

    Right now? No. Only because he does not have any fan support. If Flynn beat Indy in Indy to start the season and then threw one incompletion in the Coliseum week 2, fans would boo and revolt. The fans would rather roll the dice with Pryor and see what happens. Which I have been advocating all preseason. Of course, if Pryor goes out there and looks like sh** and starts throwing balloons and jump passes and INT’s and getting sacked, the fall guys will be Allen and Olson.

  • Marks hair

    I thought Eddie Lacy was Green Bay starting running back

  • raiderlization

    Sounds like Olsen is sold on the kid he just was not instructed by DA to put much time in his preparation as the shoe in Flynn! Now it has opened him up to putting more plays in that suites Pryor’s skill set! Not Dumb down but add his athletic abilities to the package! DA should be ashamed! talking about a fair competition! Go Raiders! Long Live Mark Davis!

    Yea I was surprised as well when I read Harris was listed as the Starter. I guess it’s because he has some experience and maybe a little more of 3 down back.

    Allen could lose his job over this and everyone here is okay with that as long as they are right….because after all its not their job.

    So much more goes into these decisions than the arm chair fans wants to admit or consider. It’s much easier to make a knee jerk reaction.

    ===

    No, that’s the definition of a “playwanter”. A “playmaker” actually makes those plays.

    For every attempt at a big play that doesn’t connect (not even counting the turnovers and WR killers) there were probably a couple of move the chain options that weren’t looked at. Finding those requires depth in understanding the plays and quick reads. Sorry if that’s not exciting, but it’s also good to not excite the opposing fans by serving up easy turnovers.

    I that statement is a little harsh on Flynn. I think he can can complete half of the 25 yd passes he throws. In Indy he’ll have trouble even completing half …no wind at his back.

    Maybe they can due something w/ air circulation system to help him.

    A “bigger package” for Pryor surely has missdick salivating at the chance to kneel before him and give oral testimony to his cannon-like gun.

    ================

    looks like the reference to pryor and the word “package” is also being mixed in with sexual innuendo by these posters.

    i also see it being tied to guns and fire arms.

    is all of this due to the the fear of genetic annihilation or a nod to a genetic recessive state?

    why is a gun called “the great equalizer”?

    why are guns commonly colored black?

    why do people that classify themselves as white here in the usa call one another son of a gun?

    people say a lot about what lurks in their psyche when they post here.
