In theory, no. But being a fan, I always want to go into a season being optimistic. I never take the view that they will be an 0-16 team. But this year, it’s not that far-fetched to believe that it might happen. They are really, really bad in many areas.

Quarterbacks are hard to come by. A lot of teams go a long time without finding a franchise QB. But receivers – how can they go more than a fkn decade without finding a guy who can reliably catch a gawddam football? It’s unreal.

“I’ve said it time and time again. Who starts should not be the concern. The concern is will we have enough QB’s on hand to last the season. That’s why I have been far more critical of DA than I have of the QB’s. He should have been getting them ready to step in if when any one of them goes down especially given the state of Flynn’s arm.”
    ——————————–

I agree with this. This season is just as important of an evaluation on Dennis Allen and his staff. Raiders are going to lose games this year for sure…but will the losses be of the 1 to 3 to 7 point variety or will they be out of games in the first quarter just like last year and this pre-season? That is huge IMO.

Allen has to show something in this regard in spite of the lack of horses on this team.

Flynn looks like he’s putting everything he’s got into it with a 15 yard throw. That’s pathetic! Pryor at least has a skillset that can be utilized through clever play calling and execution. I coined Flynn “The Flyncess” because we might as well be playing with a girl if Flynn’s out there. Call it tendonitis, call it a noodle arm, call it anything you want. The fact is, the dude can’t throw, and if your QB can’t throw, shouldn’t he at least be able to run? The only reasoning behind Flynn starting would be a flat out lack of heart, desire, and will to win. A flat out lack of giving a damn by this organization from top to bottom. I think it all stems from DA. He strikes me as a phony who’s in way over his head and knows it. And I think the players see it too, and doubt everything they do because of it. I can’t think of one genuine thing DA has ever said. It is all double speak, saying a lot while saying nothing at all. Its all coach speak, and that’s fine, but first you need to be a coach!

    ===

There is such thing as embellishment and this exemplifies it. Go watch Flynn’s TD to Moore in game 2. He threw it from the 25 to near the back of the end zone, at least 40 yards in the air. It wasn’t a max effort throw either where he reared back and just hucked it.

Watch the highlights from his 6 TD game with GB two years ago. Several throws traveled 40-45 yards in the air as well. You can’t refute actual proof where there is video that shows where the ball left and landed.

Flynn is no Elway that zips everything in like a MLB fastball, that’s for sure. And he’s not going to chuck JaFatass like 60 yarders in the air from his knees. But his arm is every bit as strong as Montana and Gannon’s were in their MVP years, which is just fine for me.

You guys are getting way too caught up in the weak arm BS. I’m much more worried about the tendinitis affecting his delivery than his arm strength.

I also expected a better command of the offense and adjustments by Flynn. Hopefully it’s the vanilla preseason offense combined with the patchwork OL and RBs not picking up blitzes that have limited the calls. If it’s his decision making, that’s a big flag for me.

  • SaintKaufman

Uh, well, uh, the Oline looked a little better. I thought the Dline played the run decent as well.

Every President since FDR – except Ford – has violated the Constitution over lack of Congressional declaration of war. Why single out BO over that?

    1) Because he’s such a g-d hypocrite, whining about others doing it, saying he’d n-e-v-e-r do it; 2) because he taught Beginning Constitutional Law as a lecturer and seems not to know anything (or maybe doesn’t care anything) about the Constitution, something he criticized his predecessors for and 3) because he promised the world in a big, chin-in-the air blustering speech (does he give any other kind?) 10 months ago that action would be swift if “that line is crossed.”

Neither have potential. Its looking as if they go with Teddy Bridgewater or Jadevon Clowney (as a franchise player to build around)

i mean, how was DA or McKenzie or anyone going to do anything after these historic misses?

    2004
Passed on Larry Fitzgerald, Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger
others included Jared Allen, Matt Schaub and DT’s Randy Starks and Isaac Sopoaga

    2005
missed on Aaron Rodgers, CB Carlos Rogers, DE DeMarcus Ware and WR Roddy White
others included WR Vincent Jackson, RB Frank Gore, and DE Justin Tuck

    2006
missed on S Donte Whitner, QB Jay Cutler, NT Haloti Ngata, LB Chad Greenway, CB/KR Antonio Cromartie, DE Tamba Hali and CB Johnathan Joseph
Others included; Danieal Manning, T Marcus McNeill, WR Greg Jennings, CB/KR Devin Hester, CB Tim Jennings
later (while we took Darnell Bing in the fourth) we missed OL Jahri Evans, RB/KR Leon Washington, WR Brandon Freaking Marshall, DE Elvis Dumervil, and took C Chris Morris one pick before Cortland Finnegan and WR Marques Colston

2007 *this one hurts the most of a ll
    JaMarcus Russell.
passed on; Calvin Johnson, RB Adrian Peterson and , uh oh yeah – Patrick Willis and Marshawn Lynch
(although Zach Miller came via trade) we passed on WR Sidney Rice, DE LaMarr Woodley , took Quentin Moses over WR Jacoby Jones – and took Michael Bush in the fourth – passing on S Dashon Goldson

2008- lost 2nd round pick in deal for MeAngelo Hall
that meant bye Jordy Nelson, LB Curtis Lofton, RB Matt Forte and WR DeSean Jackson, RB Ray Rice (running for Raiders sounds good)- we passed these guys up for a guy who didn’t pan out ONE full season.
oh yeah, Armon Shields (no longer in league ) over OT Carl Nicks and WR Pierre Garcon – Glass Schilens one pick before Peyton Hillis.

    2009
drafted Darrius Heyward-Bey (tough, hard worker, not a natural receiver)
passed on DE Brian Orakpo, LB Brian Cushing, WR Michael Crabtree, WR/KR Percy Harvin and Clay Matthews

Michael Mitchell at 2 (no longer with team, buried on Panther depth chart)
passed on C Max Unger, S William Moore, OT Sebastian Vollmer, DE Michael Johnson

    2010
drafted Rolando McClain (out of football, multiple arrests)
passed on CJ Spiller, Earl Thomas, Jason Pierre Paul, Mike Iupati, real miss was DT Ndamukong Suh

2nd round miss – took Lamarr Houston
passed on Zane Beadles,OL, Utah, LB Daryl Washington, DE Carlos Dunlap, LB Sean Lee, RB Ben Tate, WR Golden Tate

Jared Veldheer ; good, right – passed on NaVorro Bowman, LB and Jimmy Graham?!
Jacoby Ford; good short term impact; passed on DT Geno Atkins, S Kam Chancellor, CB Perrish Cox

2011 *no first round pick due to Seymour (but very few impact players – maybe Prince Amkamara, DE Adrian Clayborn, CB Jimmy Smith, QB Andy Dalton/Colin Kaepernick
2nd appears that Wiz 2.0 was a good , solid pick. Only missing on Chris Culliver, CB,
4th took Denarius Moore – passed on Pernell McPhee, Evan Royster, RB
    drafted

2012 – new regime, but no first round pick due to Carson Palmer
at 17 ; I think Shea McClellin, LB Don’t’a Hightower, RB Doug Martin and CB Janoris Jenkins were on the board

no 2nd round pick – thanks Seymour
3rd forfeited – selecting Terrelle Pryor in 2011
    3rd took Tony Bergstrom
    passing on QB Kirk Cousins

Didn’t see any drops from McGloin passes. OR Wilson’s so far.

Maybe what I’ve been saying about the WRs knowing how Pryor hangs them up in practice and preseason games comes into play. Maybe they aren’t so willing to put their bodies and careers on the line for a guy that can’t put the ball in a place where they can catch it and survive.

It may not be conscious but I’ve seen WR corps before that don’t believe in a QB suddenly look less inspired to make catches. It’s kinda built into our DNA to survive after all.
