Speculation has Pryor as Raiders QB

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, August 30th, 2013 at 2:13 pm in Oakland Raiders.

At least two purveyors of opinion have made a strong case for Terrelle Pryor as the Raiders starting quarterback when the regular-season begins Sept. 8.

San Jose Mercury News-Bay Area News Group columnist Tim Kawakami believes Pryor managed a difficult environment well enough and that his mobility provides a better chance for the Raiders to remain in games. His Web column can be found here.

Sports Illustrated writer Jim Trotter echoes some of the same sentiments and believes the Raiders in their current state would best be served by Pryor over Matt Flynn. His story can be found here.

As a side note, the story Trotter filed had lead paragraphs nearly identical to the ones I filed Thursday night on my final write-through for the Web and morning papers.

I think I’ll call Jim after Dennis Allen’s conference call (scheduled for 5:15 p.m.) to get me started.

Some teams have begun to announce their cuts to get to the 53-man roster, which must be done Saturday. The Raiders could do so if they desire once players are informed, or they can wait until Saturday and do it all at once. Either way, the guess is there won’t be a lot of hard information coming from Allen this evening.

Seriously don’t look for any brilliant pickups on waviers

  • Twocents

I think Holmes would have to be on the 53 man roster before he could be suspended. You can’t just waive him and then pick him up 4 games later.

Palmer did well on a crap team, seriously?

    =================================

Palmer’s stat line was pretty good. It’s only if you watched the games that you know he’d be mediocre for two 1/2 quarters, rally us once the opposing D went to the Prevent, give us hope, then throw a stupid INT to end the game.

Still, I have him starting on one of my fantasy teams. Why? ‘Cause he puts up awesome stat lines.

  • Lowdown_in_Beijing

On a good note, the Chargers are wracked with injury and look worse than the Raiders.

Exactly. So when the regular season officially begins (at 3PM PDT tomorrow), he’ll be automatically suspended and no longer on our active roster.

True, he has to be on the roster for a day, a minute or something before he is officially suspended.

See Jerome Simpson on the Vikings last year…Holmes is still on the roster, just doesn’t count against the 53.

Sir Raider funny stuff, i can actually keep this going.

Reminds me of something years ago at my place of business i was talking to my brother about the virtues of Shawn Bradley the 7’4 center and then the mailman walked in and stated “hey shawn bradley can’t dribble he is too tall and will lose the ball”

  • Lowdown_in_Beijing

Holmes, Streater and Butler are a bright spot.

Keep Ford on the sidelines…and on Special Teams

  • NGRaiderfan

Am i the only one who thinks they should try putting gurode at center and moving wiz back to guard?

  • elraidmanhattan

Sir you are correct will pile up yards and ints.

  • Coach Dennis

Howdy everyone. Great blog here. Read it everyday and night. But I got to chime in. I’m going to name my QB. Some of y’all will like it, and some of you won’t. For those that like it, com’on out to the game and support the team. For those of y’all that don’t like it, get some cookies and a glass of warm milk and go watch television. Don’t want you as fans if you can’t support the team. Sick’n tired of the breakfast club fans anyway. Don’t need ya. Go home. It’s my f&#*!^g team, got that toilet breath? Yeah, I thought so d*%#head. You sumb*&$#es don’t know your a+@ from a hole in the ground. F*=#!&g p^$$!*s. Eat s&*t.

For the love of Al: What is this bizarre obsession people have with moving Baby Wiz back to guard? He’s a perfectly fine center, and centers are harder to find than guards.

  • SnBG

Lets see, Palmer had no running game so DC’s said don’t worry we will just go after Palmer. Oh btw, he has no real decent WRs. This is going to be a piece of cake. Yet Palmer still threw for 4000+ yards. DCs said, don’t worry team, Palmer has no credible end zone threat. We will blanket those receivers but we don’t have to work to hard to do that though,, CAUSE THOSE RECEIVERS CAN’T RUN DECENT ROUTES. Oh and btw D just look the wrong way at DMC and he will go down without a struggle.

He’s not that good of a center. N its about putting the 5 best lineman out there. Gurode is a center and probably a better one than wiz. N wiz is a better guard than berg or nix. We were at our best as an O when he was a guard. Fact. Gurode played like a$$whole at guard and held up well at center

If this guy is right and we’re thinking of moving Reece, it means (IMHO) that Pryor’s starting, we’re going to be running that diamond formation and they don’t think Reece has the speed or blocking chops for it.

Levi’s hardly the go to guy, but he’s okay, and his take is:

    Safeties

Tyvon Branch, Charles Woodson, Usama Young, Brandian Ross

    Out: Shelton Johnson, Reggie Smith

Analysis: Reggie Smith showed up in the Seattle game but his fate was already sealed. Ross has outplayed him this preseason overall and Dennis Allen likes him as the backup strong safety.

    =====================================
    Did you watch the game?
Lets see … he threw a TD on his last drive and had a easy TD dropped by his TE on the second drive and no Ints yup he looked like sh*t but Pryor looked great … Right.

Palmer had no INTs in pre- season …. hmmmmmm I guess it helps when your WRs riun the right routes and can catch the ball.

  • elraidmanhattan

A couple of notes on Ballard, trusted receiver for Manning, bailed him out many times on 3rd down,, crushing when he went down. Moreover coughlin was pissed when belichek signed him

    ———–

Ford is a game changer and not just as a return man, we saw that Thursday night when he roasted that corner deep, a better throw and that a TD. IMO ford is best suited for the vertical game and that will take pressure off the run game cuz you have to account for that guy.

I don’t really believe that Mark is mandating that Allen plays Pryor. But like the majority of us, and the talking heads, Mark realizes that Pryor is the best option currently on the roster.
