Speculation has Pryor as Raiders QB

At least two purveyors of opinion have made a strong case for Terrelle Pryor as the Raiders starting quarterback when the regular-season begins Sept. 8.

San Jose Mercury News-Bay Area News Group columnist Tim Kawakami believes Pryor managed a difficult environment well enough and that his mobility provides a better chance for the Raiders to remain in games. His Web column can be found here.

Sports Illustrated writer Jim Trotter echoes some of the same sentiments and believes the Raiders in their current state would best be served by Pryor over Matt Flynn. His story can be found here.

As a side note, the story Trotter filed had lead paragraphs nearly identical to the ones I filed Thursday night on my final write-through for the Web and morning papers.

I think I’ll call Jim after Dennis Allen’s conference call (scheduled for 5:15 p.m.) to get me started.

Some teams have begun to announce their cuts to get to the 53-man roster, which must be done Saturday. The Raiders could do so if they desire once players are informed, or they can wait until Saturday and do it all at once. Either way, the guess is there won’t be a lot of hard information coming from Allen this evening.

    let me get this straight

first the haters said flynn would be more consistent and execute the offense better tan pryor.

that didnt happen, pryor led more first down drives and had less turn over and passed for more yardage.

Then they said flynn would be better putting points on the board because pryor was erratic.

yet in 13 drives flynn produced 10 points, in 14 drives pryor put up 32 points.

Now all these losers have left is to try and say flynn ‘was better against the first string defense”.

never mind the fact that flynn had 3 chances to show this vs only 1 for pryor. Never mind that flynn faced first string from a very poor saint defense, and pryor faced a super bowl contender top 2 defense in the nfl.

It’s not coming from Mark alone it’s also coming from Reggie. Flynn unexpectedly GOT WORSE as the preseason wore on. Pryor got better and if I’m going to biuld a team around one of them it’s going to be Pryor with all the upside……….period

LOL, a couple weeks ago you were panicking saying they might as well trade Pryor. I told you to chill and let the process play itself out, now listen to you. Pure comedy.

That is fair, I admit it 100 because I saw a QB in Flynn whom I knew was a not worth my time watching him checkdown 1k times a game score 10 pts. and get beat by 20. I wanted to see what TP had and sitting him for that waste was crazy IMHO. I just did NOT trust DA to ever make that decision ON HIS OWN……….period

The reason Pryor should start is because he is freakishly athletic on a team that doesn’t protect the passer well, and is also strong armed and can stretch the defense with his arm and his feet. He isn’t polished, but can make up for it with the skills he does have.

TP: 24 yo, great size, strong arm, mobile and fast, and he is a leader.

  • RaiderReloader

People always want fast guys to play WR?RB instead of QB, the Pats drafted Gannon as a RB, he wad 6th fast combine 40 of entire draft class.

Gannon did nto look like a qb for 4 years. Pryor is progressing nicely, he needs another year to learn, and should get that chance this year.

Gotta like the kid, works hard, can lead, run and has started to throw like a QB this year.

Al’s Last pick might just be a gift to Raider Nation.

Pryor will start as the best of a bad group. Kinda like being the tallest midget.

I HOPE he develops into a kicka$$ quarterback. My opinion is that he won’t. He’s had three years to show it, and hasn’t. This year is it. If he doesn’t get it, he’ll be gone.

Who will be on the roster ay QB next year? Who knows?

It surly won’t be Flynn. And maybe not Pryor.
    McGloin? Wilson?

    4 – 12 again.

DA comes off as a softy. A marshmallow. If the players feared and respected him they wouldn’t make stupid, boneheaded plays like Lamarr’s “lining up in the neutral zone” that kept another drive alive and which again led to pts. There is no discipline with this team.

DA to get his walking papers mid-year.

Although I agree that this is the year for pryor to show, he in no way has had 3 years to develop.

He was hamstringed by the bogus NFL suspension for his first 5 games, pretty much ignored last season, and has finally worked hard enough to get the required reps in practice to constitute a valid opportunity.

He has been around the club, but not as anything more than a bystander up until this season.
