The Raiders, as well as other NFL teams, aren’t required to announce their roster moves in getting to the maximum 53 players until 3 p.m. PDT.
However, that deadline doesn’t prevent word from leaking out well in advance.
On Saturday morning, linebacker Chase Thomas Tweeted that he has been released by the Raiders. Also, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said rookie defensive end David Bass also has been waived.
It bears noting that erroneous information has a way of making its way into the conversation. So, keep that in mind between now and the time the Raiders make things official.
If accurate, the release of Bass comes off as a bit of a surprise, given the Raiders huge need for pure pass-rushers and the fact Bass flashed on occasion during exhibition games.
Then again, it’s conceivable that the Raiders are banking on the fact that they can sneak Bass through waivers and then re-sign him Sunday and place him on their practice squad.
Now that the deadline has passed, the Raiders said that they don’t intend to announce their roster moves until 6 p.m. PDT or so.
Rookie quarterback Matt McGloin just Tweeted that he made the roster. That means the Raiders are going to carry four quarterbacks, unless they plan on cutting fourth-round draft pick Tyler Wilson.
