Raiders transactions release

The Oakland Raiders have claimed the following players via waivers on Sunday. They will be added to the active roster.

Player Pos. Ht. Wt. Exp. College

McClain, Antoine (via Bal.) G 6-5 336 1 Clemson

Sanford, Brian (via Cle.) DT 6-2 280 3 Temple

Antoine McClain: McClain spent the entire 2012 season on the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent.

McClain appeared in 54 games over his collegiate career for Clemson from 2008-11, making 41 starts. He started every game from 2009-11, the only member of the team to do so. As a senior, McClain helped the Tigers win the ACC Championship and earn a spot in the Orange Bowl after helping pave the way for RB Andre Ellington to rush for 1,178 yards and 11 TDs on the year.

Brian Sanford: Sanford has spent the previous three seasons as a member of the Cleveland Browns after originally signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2010. Sanford spent the first seven weeks of the 2012 season on Cleveland’s practice squad before being signed to the active roster, and appeared in one game before being placed on the Reserve/Injured list on Nov. 2. Sanford made his NFL debut on Dec. 4, 2011 and played in five games for the Browns in 2011 after spending the first 12 weeks of the campaign on the practice squad. He spent his rookie season in 2010 on the Browns’ practice squad before being elevated to the active roster for the season’s final eight games, but was inactive for all of them.

Sanford appeared in 43 games during his four-year collegiate career at Temple, where he posted 86 tackles, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, and one blocked field goal during his career.

The Raiders have made the corresponding roster moves to make room on the 53-man roster.

    Objectively looking at this the big “excuse” for lack of a better word that has been afforded Reggie is lack of picks and limited cap space.

    So many times we’ve heard “Reggie needs a full draft”. “Good teams build thru the draft”, etc. etc. and yet today your 4th rounder and half a mill gets flushed down the crapper.

    One of those oh so valuable draft picks that everyone claims is so vital to building a team is just gone. Wasted.

    Yes, “only” a 4th and a 7th. Wasted.

    ==================

    Yup, but here comes the argument that you can only build the team through the first 2 rounds.

    I know there are several if u guys that get it out there.

    But it’s like a swarm of zombies.

    Slow and dumb but a relentless horde.

    Just drooling and mindlessly clawing at the door and windows.

    Shoot a few in the head but by time u reload, there’s twice as many.

    “Night of the Living Pryor Brigade”
    ============================================
    Now that funny.

    I really want Pryor to start just to show that these morons and Reggie are clueless.
    Flynn can’t throw the long ball … LMFAO …. hello no ficken QB in the history of the NFL could throw the long ball behind this OL … You need at least 3 seconds.

    @@@@@@

    How would Pryor starting show that Reggie is clueless? Pryor does play for the Raiders, doesn’t he? Reggie and DA have kept him on the roster, haven’t they?

    So if one of our players starts, our GM looks clueless? Hrm……….

    Nope. Not seeing a point there at all.

    Try again?
    .
    ==================================================
    Reggie looks clueless because if Pryor was a starter …. Why did he trade 2 picks for Flynn and waste a 4th round pick on a another QB.
    Hello that’s 3 fricken picks not starting.
    Did you finish school?

    @@@@@@@@@

    Flynn will be one pick, especially if he doesn’t start. You should read up on contracts and conditions before you talk. Adds alot of credibility. And we were getting a 3rd QB from somewhere. Draft. UDFA. Doesn’t matter. So our UDFA beat out our draft pick? It sucks but that’s the reality. Nobody in the business expected Wilson to flop, at least not that quickly.

    Someone w an open mind and some intelligence would give DA and Reggie credit for seeing what they apparently DON’T have in Wilson and moving on. McGloin is gonna surprise some people over the next few years I think. He’s a winner. And a leader. Got alot of Pryor traits. Except he can throw.

    Pryor can throw the long ball, after he scrambles away from the pass rush.
    =============================================
    Yes … I saw that long ball against the Seahawks … It’s too bad is was short 5 yds. I guess he can’t throw the long ball with a noodle arm.

    If Reggie can get a player personnel guy or president in there I think there’s hope. At least he has a good track record as a personnel man in GB for over a decade.

    DA, on the hand is hopeless and needs be fired like yesterday. Let somebody with experience and heart take over for the year and let Reggie spend the regular season finding a replacement for 2014 – clean sheet, new draft, new cap money, etc.

    Hell, let Saunders take over as HC – or even Sparano could take over and move Saunders over to Oline. Couldn’t be any worse.

    I have not been impressed by most of the things this new Raider regime has done, but I with the roster they took over combined with the lack of draft picks and the salary cap hell they inherited, I don’t think they can be fairly evaluated until the 2014 season.

  • http://WhyWontGodHealAmputees.com Sir RaiderDuck, OMS

    Per Asher Matthews, Brian Sanford was the #1 DL cut yesterday. Bass was in the 15-20 range.

  • SpudRaider

    Here’s a question for all of you GMs out there.

    Richard Seymour??
    Now that the season has started does that mean were off the hook for Seymour’s money in 2014? I believe it means that we are since he wasn’t on the roster as of yesterday. Since we’re paying him already just to sit can he come back?

    ===============================================================
    First of all … I’m sorry the last game Wilson outplayed McGloin by a long shot.
    The problem with this team from the day Reggie took over was the DL and two years later he still has not address the problem.
    WTF is he worried about the QB position? You had Pryor and Palmer … fixed your ficken defence … That’s the problem.

    We’re not paying him for anything right now. The sizable cap hit is caused by an accelerated signing bonus that had already been paid.

    Can’t believe people are crapping their pants because a 4th round qb was waived.
    I know sOme of you had fantasies about Wilson being the future raider qb & some here even bragged that they had him number 1 on their board, face it …. He sucks!!!

    I for one knew he was trash another in a line of Petrino system qbs redman, brohm, Wilson all flops.

    Who cares about a fourth round after thought qb that never was going to be more than a career back up anyway?

    Lol so much for the ” best pure passer hype”. His mechanical issues matched with not being smart enough to grasp the offense along with a noodle arm were his undoing.

    This is still a very good draft for us so far. Watson looks like a very very good player. Once veldherr gets back they will make a solid set of book ends for years.

    Hayden looks the part as well & Moore will be serviceable if not very solid.

    Only those that saw something that wasn’t there to begin with could be upset about Wilson.

    ————————————-

    True, but they have won more games (reg season) than any team in the NFC for like a decade or more..

    Reggie has made mistakes, the *biggest* was the hiring of Dennis Allen. If DA can’t get the most out of the players on the team – and he has shown that he can’t even get mediocre out of the them – doesn’t matter who you bring in here. Plus, you have to think that DA has had some influence on who has been brought in here so far – the Brisiel signing is a perfect example – he was brought in to help the zone run scheme that DA/DirtKnapp installed.. And I think Flynn too with his west coast dink and dunk that DA wants as well..

    In any case, Reggie has a long term deal and has had success in this league for a long time – so he deserves the benefit of the doubt (for now anyway but he better improve quickly) but Dennis Allen is just so totally bad that it’s really hurting the long term ideal of trying to build something.. Its better to cut him out this year – by the end of the year at most – and start anew next year when the roster turnover will be very large again – but we’ll have money and a full draft as well and we can start the ‘rebuild’ – DA is not the guy.
