Raiders transactions release

The Oakland Raiders have claimed the following players via waivers on Sunday. They will be added to the active roster.

Player Pos. Ht. Wt. Exp. College

McClain, Antoine (via Bal.) G 6-5 336 1 Clemson

Sanford, Brian (via Cle.) DT 6-2 280 3 Temple

Antoine McClain: McClain spent the entire 2012 season on the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent.

McClain appeared in 54 games over his collegiate career for Clemson from 2008-11, making 41 starts. He started every game from 2009-11, the only member of the team to do so. As a senior, McClain helped the Tigers win the ACC Championship and earn a spot in the Orange Bowl after helping pave the way for RB Andre Ellington to rush for 1,178 yards and 11 TDs on the year.

Brian Sanford: Sanford has spent the previous three seasons as a member of the Cleveland Browns after originally signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2010. Sanford spent the first seven weeks of the 2012 season on Cleveland’s practice squad before being signed to the active roster, and appeared in one game before being placed on the Reserve/Injured list on Nov. 2. Sanford made his NFL debut on Dec. 4, 2011 and played in five games for the Browns in 2011 after spending the first 12 weeks of the campaign on the practice squad. He spent his rookie season in 2010 on the Browns’ practice squad before being elevated to the active roster for the season’s final eight games, but was inactive for all of them.

Sanford appeared in 43 games during his four-year collegiate career at Temple, where he posted 86 tackles, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, and one blocked field goal during his career.

The Raiders have made the corresponding roster moves to make room on the 53-man roster.

Kluwe, Chris P 6-4 210 9 UCLA

Waived the following player:

I don’t care about bass either. Preseason standout? Not really a couple of plays in one game is not worth freaking out.

Focus on the first 3 picks that’s how drafts are graded not Connor vernon & bass & McGuffey

I know I am late to the party and this has probably been mentioned but…

If Wilson and Kluwe were cut before the deadline then there would have been room to keep Bass, who seemed like a player with potential.

Instead, Bass is lost to the Bears and Wilson and Kluwe are on the street anyway.

I am over thinking the room here?

    ………………………………………..

Reggie may have dropped the ball on this one. His mind is still foggy on the Allen hiring and he can’t get past that. Besides, it was Allen who kept 4 qb’s and 2 punters. Allen really isn’t GM material. You think? Allen needs to get a fckn clue. Quit acting like a GM. Cuz your not.

676, Mistic, My issue wasn’t with losing some great future qb in Wilson but with the fact Reggie wasted a 4th round pick on him.

It doesn’t bother me too much he’s gone, just that it turns out it was a waste of time to have him here in the first place.

    Fantasy draft went beautifully today

    Qb: newton/dalton/Flynn
    RB: Martin/bush/Richardson
    WR: Marshall/smith/Johnson/Moore/little
    TE: Rudolph
    K: tucker
    D: 49ers

Smith, Moore, little, and Rudolph all 3rd year players with building success ready for breakout years.

    We’re you picking 10th?

And as far as potential goes, we will get a MUCH better pass rusher in rd 2 or 3 next year. The same year Bass MIGHT have gained enough weight to contribute.

Best case scenario for Wilson was him becoming our franchise QB.

To me the second best scenario was him proving he wasn’t as quickly as possible.

Yeah we missed on a fourth rounder, but I am not going to fault a GM of a QB needy team for using a 4th round pick to take a swing at the position.

you guys are insane and this is coming from someone who was proclaiming david bass our best pass rusher. Ryan Robinson looked every bit as good as him when it was all said and done

and whiffing on a 4th round pick?

his first 3 picks are immediate starters while butler kasa rivera McGee and robinson will all be big parts of the rotation

No doubt Bass was intended to be on the practice squad. He played too well in the preseason for that to happen and Reggie should have known better – should have dropped Kluwe and kept Bass on the 53 till after week one and then stash him on the practice squad would have had much a better chance of staying there. If he still wanted Sanford, could have waived Stewart – nobody would pick him up for sure – and then resigned Stewart when Bass went to PS.

Bass was a mistake, no question. How big of a mistake, hard to say – but it just (yet another) mistake..

I don’t think whiffing in the 4th is a big deal at all. Whiffing in rounds 1-2 is crucial, rd 3 isn’t ideal but won’t cripple you.

The thing is if Reggie would’ve made a good selection in the waiver wire from good teams like SF and Seattle or just good players in general it wouldn’t be that big a deal if Wilson and bass are gone but instead it seems he only got 2 guys and both don’t even look impressive and one barely even played the whole time he was in the nfl. It’s typical Reggie! gets a bunch of bums who never played a down and barely did anything in their career. Next year we can expect the same most likely.

We probably won’t ever know. But I don’t think so. I think they were rolling the dice that they could sneak him through to the PS and got burned. He did all the things you would hope for from a 7th round pick (granted we don’t see practices) and his size is no excuse. Reggie knew how big he was, or at least I hope he did, before he drafted him. They were playing games. There is no other logical reason to keep two punters and 4 QBs, when they obviously knew two of them were getting cut anyway. They didn’t just decide that today. It was planned. And the plan didn’t work.

Actually a lot surprisingly… What makes you think teams like Denver and SF and Seattle can keep all the people in their camp with stacked rosters and some of them have potential to fill in spots and replace players we have. Jacksonville might have a better eye and know things reggie doesnt. Facts and reason? Here’s some for you:

Fact: we have a very bad roster we need all the help we can get.

Fact: we don’t have a pass rush and a couple of guys were let go that could contribute and we let go of a guy that could help out.

And me slamming the GM? I have reason actually:

Reg hasn’t done a good job at all in creating a roster that can compete.  I don’t think the guy has brought in the necessary talent to compete.  I wish he did but he hasn’t.  I find it hard to believe a guy with his experience in a front office has failed that badly.  I have absolutely no faith at all the Raiders will win more than 4 or maybe 5 games (again) in the 2013 season.  That may even be overestimating. Watch how many more games the Chiefs will win this year after being the very worst last year.

  • 0ak r8rs

And generally I think Reggie knows what he’s doing. But I also know he’s human so jes not perfect. He’s gonna make mistakes. Bass was a mistake. Wilson ended up being a mistake. But that’s not the same as the Bass situation either.

With Wilson I’m mostly just disappointed because I liked the pick. And it’s not fun cutting a 4th round pick. It’s embarrassing regardless of the reasons.

And I do give Reggie and DA credit for not trying to save face, or turn shlt into gold if that’s indeed what Wilson and Bass were, shlt. But it’s just not ok for us to miss on a 4th in our present state and its not ok to play games and lose Bass. Doesn’t mean I’m not a Reggie guy. I am. But I’m not gonna ignore what I see as mistakes either.

    @@@@@@@@

None of that makes any sense. Jags and Chiefs pick before us, first of all. They took 11 or 12 guys.

Second, unless there’s a real superstar out there, and after the first 11, I doubt there is, then you don’t cut guys you know for guys you don’t. That’s not how you build a successful team.

Third, to judge Reggie on his draft picks is unfair either way because it takes at least 3 years to fully determine the success or failure of a draft class. And we don’t have the money for quality first rate FAs. An even if they did, who says they would wanna play in Oakland? It was just ranked 30th out 30 major cities to live in. And even if it wasn’t, guys on the east coast don’t necessarily want to go to the west coast. And even if THAT wasn’t true, who says they want to be involved in a rebuilding project?

We were 20k under the cap last year. No money at all, dumpster diving to fill roster spots. This year we r $6 million under the cap. Why don’t you ask Mark why they is? Because in sure Reggie would love to spend that money to make us better. Why is not still there then? Ask yourself that instead of putting blame where it doesn’t belong. Or don’t, idc. It’s a free country. Everyone has a right to be ignorant.

And nobody has faith that that will happen. Doesn’t mean that’s Reggie’s fault. No expert has said that. They all expect us to lose, and they all expect Reggie to get it fixed. Maybe not all, in sure there is a detractor here and there. But 95% have said he’s doing fine overall. And they still know we will suck this year.

Like I told someone else tonight. This is a complicated business. It’s not a video game. There is not going to be any instant gratification here. Man up or move on.
