Raiders sign OT Tony Pashos

The Raiders added another tackle to their thin offensive line Monday with the addition of veteran Tony Pashos.

Pashos, 33, has played in 89 games with 67 starts with the Baltimore Ravens (2003 through 2006), Jacksonville Jaguars (2007-2008), San Francisco 49ers (2009) and Cleveland Browns (2010-2011).

He was an offseason addition with the Washington Redskins before being released.

Pashos started 12 games for the Browns in 2011 and 31 of 32 games for Jacksonville in 2007 and 2008.

With the Raiders waiving Alex Barron to make room for Pashos, they still have only three healthy offensive tackles. The other two are starters Menelik Watson and Khalif Barnes.

Jared Veldheer is out following surgery with a torn triceps and is eligible to be , designated for return list Tuesday, meaning he will miss a minimum of seven games. That would open up an additional roster spot.

    Myers was a FA coming off a career year. The Raiders did not get rid of him, they simply couldn’t afford to keep him. He signed a 4 yr/$14.25M deal. In a rebuild year they went with multiple options that combined are cheaper than Myers would’ve cost to hang on to hoping one develops.

    >>>>

    Irrelevant. It is still a DOWNGRADE.

    Name one position on offense that wasn’t a downgrade or wash.

    Be honest…

    ===

    Wasn’t arguing that it wasn’t a downgrade. Was saying that it was an explicit choice to not maintain parity in order to fix the cap. We all knew that was coming.

    If I had to stretch, I’d say that RT is a position that is upgraded on offense. We just haven’t seen it yet due to Veldy’s injury. If Watson looks legit, one of them moves over to the right side as an upgrade.

    LG also has potential to be upgraded, because Carlisle didn’t exactly set a high bar. We just won’t know the verdict until the season plays out.

    Jenkins looks like an upgrade over Goodson. Backup RB on a team that starts DMac is a pretty important position.

    Backup QB is an improvement. Pryor doesn’t stink as much this year as he did last :-p

    East it’s a waste of time arguing with Zyswastika, he is here to get under your skin with his enuendos and race baiting. Let ‘em talk with every passing day his propaganda rings hollow. Let ‘em talk……period

    before last season, Myers was barely hanging on to his job at TE. It was Palmer who got Myers paid. Myers is a horrible run blocker. We will be fine when Ausberry gets healthy. Both he a Mustard can both block! We are a running team now…

    >>>>

    Not if Pryor and our coaching staff can’t beat 8-in-the-box.

    And none of our new TEs had a positive score in run blocking.

    Yup Wilson is gone. He will not be a Raider

    This is the same HC who thought Matt Leinart was a viable #2 last season and tried to bury TP so take it for what its worth.

    I’m still half expecting for DA to announce Flynn the starter. Would not surprise me in the least.

    We still have an open spot on the practice squad. And another spot on the 53 will open up tomorrow when Velhdheer goes on IR…

    It’s hard to have a positive score when the only running plays you are calling are all between the tackles…

    ===========================================

    Offensive tackle, center (Gurode backing up instead of Parsons), and wideout (DHB is addition by subtraction).

    More crazy Koolade gulping. Veldheer is out.

    Sorry… I am not chugging with you cats today.

    Every starter is either a wash or a downgrade from last year on offense.

    No way the defense will be worse though…

    True Kirk,but I was pointing out offensive moves after G-dog said RM made zero moves to improve the offense.He made many.Not saying you have to agree with them,but he did make them.
    ……………………………………………….

    It’s all good. We have never seen our starting offense before. It will be interesting to see if it is any good. I am excited.

  • spiff

    d-mac is the x-factor. he can stay healthy ( I know big if ) and this line can open up holes for him. get him more involved in the passing game. and make plays period . it will help the rec. corps along with Jennings and reece. it could be interesting. that’s what I hope anyway… later nation 6 more days ’til Armageddon .

    I know. We are closer to the lions than we’d like to believe. But let’s take it one game at a time. Anything thing less than 6 wins this year and I’d say we have a verdict. We need to be able to build on something. Not just a rebuild for nothing. 6-8 wins is a solid ground to build on. 1-3 wins and it’s back to rubble.

    >>>

    I would think 8 wins should be expected from all Raider fans considering thats where we were just two years ago.

    Instead all I see are excuses and fans hoping for 4-6 wins again (nobody REALLY expects 8 wins.)
    ——————————————

    Yeah I think this year is an evaluation on many facets of the Raiders org. Sure Flynn/Pryor probably McGloin,the rookie class,new parts on D,and the 1 year contract players etc…to me it also has to be an evaluation on this coaching staff.

    This team just simply does not have the horses,so posting an above .500 (backing in to the playoffs) type record would require zero injuries,many lucky breaks yada yada – like the Broncs 2011 Orton to Tebow year. Could it happen? Sure. It’s the NFL.

    With a 2-14,5-11 season being more likely here is what I’m looking for…

    -Are the bulk of those possible losses of the 1-7 point variety?

    -Are the Raiders finished in the 1st QTR week in/out (like we saw last year and this preseason,the 20-0 in the 1st quarter) OR are they in most games until the end?

    -Are there going to be adjustments/risk taking from the staff,both in game and week to week when the “lack of horses” on this roster shows up and/or the offensive/defensive philosophy is not yielding competitive results?

    Allen and his staff is under watch for this type of improvement IMO,not just the final W-L record for 2013.

    Kirk,I was sweating bullets thinking we would take Geno, the guy can’t read defenses,’would take tp in a heartbeat

    ===

    Sad thing is that Geno is a good deal smarter than Pryor and does a better job reading. He generated more of his success in college sitting in the pocket than he did running. He has much better mental tools to adapt to the NFL than Pryor does. Sorry if you don’t like that answer.
    ……………………………………………….

    Sorry, playing quarterback in the NFL is not rocket science.

    See, Bradshaw, Terry.

    ===

    Bradshaw played in the 70s when it was a very different game. Few specialist, smaller playbooks, way less complex defenses.

    Show me one QB of Bradshaw’s intellect that has been a top 10 in the 2000’s.

    The closest I can come up with is Vince Young, and he was a flash in the pan. Once teams knew what to look for (and when he no longer had the #1 running game) he was exposed for being too mentally slow to handle what the defenses threw at him.
    ————–

    Explain Marino and his low score.

    ===

    What era did Marino play in again? Try actually reading before responding.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

    This “era” argument that you keep defaulting to makes you sound as dumb as Tyler Wilson. Wake up! Superior intellect isn’t in the job description for NFL QBs. Albert Einstein, Alex Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick aren’t and never will be in the HOF. Joe Flacco is no genious. He’s even had his work ethic questioned. But he’s a tall and athletic dude with a gun who had great protection and a stellar D during last year’s playoff run. That’s why he has a ring and a spiffy new contract. Think about it. As long as you have the PHYSICAL skills to make plays with your arm and legs, along with supreme toughness and the ability to focus and make plays late in games, you should do fine as long as your team isn’t trash. The NFL isn’t for rocket scientists. What the hell is your agenda anyway?
