DHB getting rave reviews in Indy

Over-the-top bravado was never Darrius Heyward-Bey’s style as a Raider.

It remains so as an ex-Raider.

“I have nothing bad to say,’’ Heyward-Bey told reporters in Indianapolis regarding the Week 1 matchup with his former team when the Colts host the Raiders Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

“It was a good experience,’’ Heyward Bey said. “We had a lot of good times and some difficult times. I had a lot of great teammates, great coaches. I learned a lot over there.’’

The No. 7 overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, Heyward-Bey, due $7.7 million in salary, was relased after four seasons during which he caught 140 passes for 2,071 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Instead, he’ll make $3 million for one season with the Colts, where he will start opposite Reggie Wayne and have a stable quarterback situation with starter Andrew Luck.

Luck, speaking with Bay Area reporters by conference call, called Heyward-Bey “a really awesome teammate. A tireless worker. It’s been very impressive. I think he’s going to do great things for us this season.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano agreed.

“He’s been outstanding from the first day he walked in the building until this morning’s walk-through,’’ Pagano said. `He’s been unbelievable. He’s an extremely hard worker who did not miss a day of our offeseason program.

“I’d be shocked if he doesn’t have an outstanding season.’’

    He knows he was at fault for some of the things that happened during his four years with the Raiders. He dropped almost 36 percent of the passes thrown to him his rookie year. And in a profession where reputation carries significant weight, getting a negative label — especially after just one season — stays with you for quite some time.

    It’s even more magnified when your primary job is to, well, catch the football.

    Heyward-Bey, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2009 draft, could have given excuses, though.

    Four different offensive coordinators. Seven different quarterbacks threw him a pass. Three head coaches.

    “I’m not one to make excuses,” Heyward-Bey said. “I definitely had a disappointing rookie season, but I never led my team in drops after that. I was there; I’m here now, and I look at it as a chance for me to move on with my career and start new here.”

    I think we will be better than people think and depending on how many division games we win could win 8 games or more.

    I dont think the afc west is known for run defense.

    pryor gives us a major advantage in our division paired with dmac.

    THIS IS GOING TO BE SWEET!!!!!
    ===============================================
    The AFC West might not be known for run defense but the 2012 Chargers gave up 3.8 YdsPerRush good for 5th best in the NFL.

    The 2012 Mules gave up 3.6 YardsPerRush good for 2nd best in the NFL.

    I do agree that TP will make DMAC and the RAID running game much more effective though.

    I think some people on the previous post took my use of the word leader out of context. I merely named Pryor the leader because of his position of QB and not by his actual leadership skills. I simply used the term by accident because the QB is supposed to be “The General”. Any QB with little experience needs to gain the trust of his offense before they believe in him completely and once that happens, he may become a leader in time…we’ll see if that happens.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Pryor has excellent leadership skills. I hope his actual QB skills can match. To put him ahead of Luck Is pure nonsense. Only time can tell that, not a homer making a wishful prediction. I hope Pryor turns out to be all that, but I’ll rightly reserve judgment until he actually shows with results: and by that I mean wins and playoffs. If Pryor can turn this team around in one season, like Luck did, then, and only then, can one honestly state that Pryor is at the same in the same league with Luck, Wilson, Kaepernick and RG3.

    the numbers are skewed when it comes to the denver run defense

    I’m watching the NFLN this morning and they’re discussing Matt Flynn losing the starting gig for the second straight season.

    While they’re talking about it, they’re showing MF lowlights from the Bear game.

    Basically MF throwing picks, getting sacked, and showing no ability to avoid pressure.

    Now I don’t think MF is terrible. I think he can play well in the right situation.

    However, this is definitely not the right situation for MF.

    I honestly believe that although MF is not a scrub, the RAID offense would do nothing with him as the QB and would be virtually unwatchable.

    Don’t see the RAIDS winning many games with TP at QB either, but there’s no doubt in my mind that the decision to start TP from the get-go is absolutely the right one.
