Raiders in lock step on QB situation

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, September 5th, 2013 at 2:49 pm in Oakland Raiders.

ALAMEDA — Coach Dennis Allen continues to play it close to the vest in terms of naming a starting quarterback. However, he is quick to point out that those that need to know have been informed and things are going according to plan.
It’s believed that Terrelle Pryor will be the starter against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, even though Matt Flynn was the presumptive starter through most of training camp.
“The players know exactly what we’re doing,” Allen said. “There’s a clear plan on what we’re doing inside this building. There’s absolutely a clear plan what we’re doing.”
Pryor danced around the subject Wednesday, when asked about the team’s plans. Yet, Pryor took the first snap with the first-team offense Monday and Wednesday.
Offensive coordinator Greg Olson is on board with the plan and not revealing the state secret. He talked in generalities Thursday and made it clear that he wasn’t saying who’s going to be the quarterback.
He seemed excited about the prospect of what Pryor brings to the offense with his ability to improvise and make plays with his feet. He said Pryor also is making strides in the passing game.
“It’s a work in progess, all the time,” Olson said. “He’s getting better, and that’s all you can ask of a player, work your best, try to get a little bit better every day, try to eliminate the steps backward. Try to keep going forward with your game and that’s what we ask of Terrelle Pryor. It’s not something that comes overnight, but certainly he’s someone that continues to work at it.”
In other news, Allen said that tight end David Ausberry would need to practice Friday if he is to have a shot at playing Sunday. Ausberry missed Oakland’s final two exhibition games and the remainder of camp after he suffered a shoulder injury against the Saints.
Left tackle Menelik Watson is another player that likely needs to show that he can hold up in practice before the Raiders trust him in the game Sunday.
“We’ll find out more tomorrow as far as whether or not he’ll be able to go into the game,” Allen said.
Without Watson, the Raiders are down to two offensive tackles on their 53-man roster. Khalif Barnes would move from the right side to the left, with fellow veteran Tony Pashos sliding into the right tackle spot.
For depth, Allen said the Raiders likely would sign a player with experience playing tackle from the practice squad, if Watson can’t play Sunday.

4th for FS, Byrd a 3rd possibly, either way Byrd would need to restructure with an extension and still be willing to back up Woodson this season.

reggie will give him a fat contract this offseason, can’t step on cwoods toes like that

this weeks big 6 from the nfl schedule

    6. jets vs bucs

which freeman shows up this year? so far the pattern that plagued the former k state gunslinger carries over from his college days. Up and down from year to year or game to game even quarter to quarter.

How will geno respond? played horribly coming off his ankle sprain in preseason. Also geno’s jets have zero threats or weapons. This game could be a boring defensive struggle.

    5. pats vs bills

dying to watch my boy ej. he may be a bit rusty, and could be off in the first part of the game. however i fully expect him to settle down as he has always been a guy that needs to establish a rhythm early.

Ej has some tremendous young weapons at his disposal and the patsies have a leaky defense in the secondary. Cj spiller has played very well against them at times.

Of course brady is well tom brady. I am expecting a game in the mid twenties with the pats eeking out a win due to some youthful mistakes by the bills. Unless darues and wiliams can flatten brady once or twice early.

    4. packers vs niners

a rematch form the nfc championship. rodgers is fun to watch but the packs defense was crushed by kappy and the wave of the future. One of the greatest d coordinators i history was completely undressed and owned by kappy in the single best statistical performance in play off history.

has dom capers “figured out” the hybrid offense like many here suggest? I doubt it. Side note, its cool having the raiders and niners in my home market get to watch pryor and kappy and r wilson (2 x a year) free!! i will also enjoy watching palmer get his teeth kicked in as well.

    3. seahawks panthers

newton vs wilson. The panthers will be far better on defense than last year, but they wont be able to stop wilson.

newton will continue to improve but he desperately needs an upgrade at wr as an aging steve smith is the most notable player, and he has clearly slowed down from what he was 4-5 years ago

    2. eagles redskins

the wave of the future RG3, finally gets to square off with the prototype eagle 7 mike vick. vick is the progenitor of griffin. watching vick break into the nfl at a time when players like him were still mostly unwanted across the league was special, now griffin carries the mantle along with the rest of the wave of the future. This will be a historic moment of sorts.

also it is a chance to watch to of the best hybrid offense duke it out in prime time. Raider fans can only drool over these advanced football concepts and forward thinking coaches. allen stinks

    1. raiders colts

only one reason i care about this game

    PRYOR
