Allen won’t talk about Watson’s health

ALAMEDA — A report surfaced Thursday morning about Raiders left offensive tackle Menelik Watson undergoing surgery to repair some knee damage that he suffered in practice last week.
Raiders coach Dennis Allen said “no” Thursday afternoon, when asked if he would confirm the report. He added that it’s Raiders policy not to comment on a player’s health until he’s back on the field.
The report said Watson won’t be back for a month or so. Therefore, don’t expect any Watson updates for a while, given Watson isn’t in the locker room these days, either.

– Tight end David Ausberry didn’t practice Thursday, either. That makes it less likely that Ausberry will play Sunday against the Jaguars.
Allen typically prefers that players practice at least one day before a game for them to play in the game that week.
If Ausberry can’t play, Jeron Mastrud is expected to make his second straight start. Rookie Mychal Rivera also will see plenty of playing time.
Strong safety Tyvon Branch (shoulder) was limited at practice Thursday, one day after he missed all of practice because of an injury he suffered against the Colts.

– Linebacker Sio Moore was a full go at practice today. Therefore, it’s possible that he will start against the Jaguars, Allen said.
Moore is recovering from a toe injury that forced him to miss most of the opener against the Colts.
Allen said he envisions Moore and backup Kaluka Maiava getting significant playing time.

– Allen said he doesn’t care how the Raiders get their rushing yards, as long as the total is acceptable.
So be it, but there comes a time when the Raiders need to be able to count upon lead back Darren McFadden.
Against the Colts, McFadden netted only 48 yards on 17 carries. Overall, the Raiders amassed 171 yards rushing.
Allen said he is encouraged by the fact that the reason McFadden failed to bust off any long runs owes more to one or two guys not holding their blocks for long enough than it does anything McFadden did.
“It’s one or two guys being able to stay on their block longer, maybe hit the hole a little bit differently,” Allen said. “It was not a factor of breakdowns as much as just our ability to finish the play off and that’s what we have to continue to improve on.”

– Allen and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver talked at length last year about the Raiders defense being “multiple.”
That never really materialized, for whatever reasons. Against the Colts, we got our first look at what Allen and Tarver envisioned.
Perhaps it’s Tarver now having the personnel. At some point, every one of the linebackers and defensive backs blitzed against the Colts.
“What we try to do defensively is to try to be multiple, try to be as simple as we can on ourselves, but give some different looks, bring some different people, make them have to account for everybody,” Allen said.
That’s what Tarver wants, for opposing offenses to wonder where the pressure is coming from on a given play, being forced to account for all 11 defenders each play.

– Tarver spent time earlier this week grilling offensive coordinator Greg Olson about the Jaguars offense and the players that remain from when Olson was the team’s offensive coordinator.
Tarver said, in particular, he got a better feel for which receivers quarterback Chad Henne likes to go to on certain plays and his strengths and weaknesses.
Olson said there’s only so much he can pass along given the offensive and defensives schemes changed in Jacksonville with the arrival of new head coach Gus Bradley.

4 sacks last week against Luck so we should get good pressure this week. Walker and Sims will be very disruptive and Houston could get a couple of sacks. Not to mention the multiple looks DA will give the Jags on D so the sacks will come from different players.

5 sacks this week is my prediction!

have some faith & confidence in our QB, would you?

Pryor knows he made mistakes and vowed to play better this week. Dennis Allen & Greg Olson say he gets better every day. We’re not playing a playoff team, like last week. We’re playing against a 2-14 team here. I don’t think Pryor will rush as much. I think he’ll have a better handle on the play clock and limit the turnovers. I do think he’ll get sacked 2 or 3 times, but McFadden & Reece will provide more than they did last game

If Pryor continues to grow and get better off a very nice start last week, then we won’t even be considering a QB. If TP isn’t good enough to take us out of the QB market, then EVERY available QB will be an option. I wouldn’t read anything into rumored interest in players that are under contract with another team. 98% of those rumors are smoke created by the journalist to have something to write about.

I have been a Raider fan for a long time, and this weekend I am not overly confident like some of you.

I am excited and am looking forward to the game but also could see a let down.

I believe either the Raiders build off of last week and put the Jags away by mid 3rd quarter and everyone is happy. Or… my fear is it’s a low scoring, boring game with a lot of mistakes and the Jags leave Oakland with 2 point win.

Obviously I’m hoping for the Raiders and TP to impress us.

Also wouldn’t mind if DMAC finally put together a good game.

    Go Raiders!

Charlie’s O-Line theory will be tested this week (versus Oakland):

    Brad Meester = 2nd round
    Will Rackley = 3rd round
    Jacques McClendon = 4th round
    Eugene Monroe = 1st round (8th overall)
    Luke Joeckel = 1st round (2nd overall)

Jags probably have the highest drafted starting OL in the league. They gave up 6 sacks last week and helped the Jags rush for 55 yards on 19 carries (2.8 ypc)

NFL Week 2: Why the Oakland Raiders Will Have a Big Game Against the Jacksonville Jaguars
Oakland’s Excitement, Jacksonville’s Ineptness Should Mean a Victory for Raiders

    Yahoo Contributor Network
    Steven Slivka 1 hour ago

COMMENTARY | Terrelle Pryor has already made his case as the most exciting new player in the NFL, and the Oakland Raiders may have finally found the quarterback they’ve been looking for.

After a roller coaster preseason where he shined against the Chicago Bears and skidded the very next week against the Seattle Seahawks, it was very unclear how Pryor would fare once the regular season started.

All we knew was that Matt Flynn was not going to be the starter after watching Oakland’s offensive line.

But after an electrifying performance against the Indianapolis Colts where he set the franchise record for most rushing yards in a game by a quarterback, Pryor now has teams studying him harder than ever.

After all, he leads the AFC in rushing.

Despite Pryor’s surprising performance, Oakland still lost the game 21-17 and started the season 0-1 once again. But in dissecting the loss comes several smaller victories the Raiders have to build on.

And with arguably the worst team in the NFL coming to town for their home opener, the Raiders are sure to put on another surprising performance. Here’s why:

Jacksonville Has No Experience Stopping the Read-Option

Ah, the read option. It’s one of the greatest offensive strategies in the NFL today, and has transformed the quarterback position in a way that never seemed possible.

Pryor did a stellar job keeping plays alive with both his arm and his legs as he ran the Colts’ defense ragged last week. Just ask linebacker Robert Mathis.

“Use all your bullets, throw the gun, throw the belt holder, too,” Mathis said about trying to defend Pryor. (via ESPN.com)

Matt Schaub, Andrew Luck and Jake Locker are not read-option quarterbacks. When playing against their divisional opponents, the Jaguars don’t have to worry about defending a quarterback who’s going to burn them with his legs.

Pryor threw for over 200 yards and ran for over 100 yards against Indianapolis. Just imagine the possibilities he’ll have against Jacksonville.

    The Jaguars are completely one-dimensional

I still don’t know what the Jaguars see in quarterback Blaine Gabbert. The guy is just terrible, and he ha any hasn’t gotten any better. It speaks volume as to how bad Chad Henne must be since Gabbert was given the starting job before the season even started.

Even with Gabbert out, Jacksonville’s offense is still pretty bad. Even its workhorse Maurice Jones-Drew only averaged three yards per carry against the Chiefs, but you’re not going to run the ball when you’re losing the entire game either.

The Jaguars averaged an embarrassing 2.5 yards per play against Kansas City and only crossed midfield twice. I couldn’t make those numbers up even if I wanted to.

With Andrew Luck being the quarterback he is, the Raiders were reluctant to give him any sort of opening downfield, which is why the Colts did a solid job running the ball against them.

But Chad Henne is no Andrew Luck.

Oakland will be able to focus more on Jones-Drew and make Henne work for every single yard. Jacksonville also gave up six sacks against the Chiefs, which means Henne could be running a lot against the Raiders.

The fans are excited in Oakland

Nobody expected the Raiders to keep it close against the Colts, let alone have the lead in the fourth quarter. But that’s exactly what happened.

Pryor single-handedly gave Raider Nation something to be excited about after his performance, and now he’ll make his first career start at home in front of a sold out O.co Coliseum.

The Jaguars gave the Raiders everything they could handle last year after Oakland escaped with a 26-23 overtime victory, but that was last year. This is a completely new Raiders team that played with tremendous heart against the Colts.

Though it’s only Week 2, Oakland can make some noise with a big win, albeit against the lowly Jaguars.

    ===

His issue is that he locks onto a single target every time he drops back to throw. Down in the red zone when the deep pass is not a threat, the safeties sit in a shallow zone and read his eyes. On both the game killing pick against Indy and the prior one in preseason, you need only watch the tape to see the results. In both cases you can see the safety breaking on the pick BEFORE Pryor even releases the ball. Telegraphed all the way.

You can also see on the slants where both Moore and Ford got creamed in the Indy game the same tendency. The safeties read his eyes and the first few steps of a slant pattern during the drop back. The break on the slant and the WR takes the brunt of that. The way Moore runs routes don’t be surprised to see him start giving up on Pryor and looking around for incoming traffic more than watching the ball come in.

It’s going to get worse before it gets better because Pryor hasn’t shown that he can shake his lock on tendencies in several years of both college and pros. But NFL defenses can watch tape and exploit in a week of prep, and I’m afraid that we’re going to start seeing more of that in week 2.

    **********************************************

Its all a farce anyway. 1500(approx.) killed by “chemical Weapons” BFD 100,000 have been killed by “conventional means” ie guns and missles, SMFH.
