ESPN: Branch may have broken fibula

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, September 16th, 2013 at 10:25 am in Oakland Raiders.

Safety Tyvon Branch may have suffered a fractured fibula, according to an ESPN report Monday.

Branch left was helped off the field in the first quarter of Sunday’s 19-9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, with coach Dennis Allen saying after the game it was thought to be a “significant’’ injury.

The last time Allen used “significant’’ in assessing an injury, left tackle Jared Veldheer needed surgery to repair a torn triceps.

According to a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “Oakland S Tyvon Branch suffered what Raiders say is “significant’’ injury thought to be a fractured fibula that will sideline him indefinitely.

Brandian Ross filled in for Branch against Jacksonville, with Usama Young also able to play both safety spots for the Raiders. Ross had a sack against the Jaguars and Young 1.5 sacks.

Allen is scheduled to meet with the local media at 1 p.m.

When ESPN reported that tackle Menelik Watson had underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last week, Allen declined to confirm, citing team policy.

    #453 – sign me up as the dumbest then. I’ll wear the title proudly.

    But seriously, the OL and D are looking much better than expected. I really want to see what Flynn looks like in that situation to truly know how much of a difference maker or hindrance that Pryor actually is by comparison. Without seeing another QB play, everything is just conjecture and heavily biased one way or the other at that.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    We did see him play man. We saw him in pre-season and he was not very good–and that was with Veldheer at LT.

    You say that the OL is looking better and you want to see how Flynn does with a better OL?

    Appearances are deceptive.
    The pass defense looks improved to a certain extent because the other team’s defense doesn’t know where Pryor is going next.

    In this day and age, with all of the rules bent in favor of the QB, it really is emberrasing to have a QB who can’t sniff a 300 yard passing game.

    We will get there someday…..that guy just isn’t on our roster yet.
    ================

    see what i mean?

    so dakota would be happier with a 300 yard turn over filled loss like his hero palmer treated us to week in and out last season.

    who the fugg cares about passing yards?

    the most important stats for a qb touch downs turn overs and w/L

    +++++++++++++

    So when we are 4-12 or 5-11 this season, what will be the most important stat for QBs then? Rushing yards? lol
    ===================

    a qb in pryors case taking over a rebuild always gets the benefit of the doubt with wns and losses

    he is a first year starter, so its more important for him to show more tds and than turn overs and if he can win as many games as palmer he will be fine.

    i for one think he will win more games than palmer did last year though

    @498: Chuck you are dreaming if you think Whack-a-Mole will EVER have anything positive to say about Pryor or the Raiders. We could beat the Donks 80-0 this week and he’d be here the next day pi$$ing on the party.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNoi_wwzbtQ Zymurge

    @ JLofty

    On audibles, I saw him call them, but you have to also remember that it was preseason vanilla. They weren’t going to give much away.

    On blocking shifts, you can audible all you want but it the guys in front can’t execute it just doesn’t matter. The personnel that couldn’t execute is no longer on the roster. It’s also documented by DA that DMac missed multiple blitz pickups. Flynn very well have audibled to those and DMac missed them.

    In terms of QB of the future, I’m not highly confident in Flynn. But I think he has more upside in a pure WCO than Pryor does, which is the reason I compare them. I also believe that this offense was built partially with Flynn’s skill set in mind so I want to see what happens when he’s inserted there and things aren’t horrendously broken all around him.

    In terms of further future, whether or not Flynn is the guy, I’ve said many teams the offense that they were planning is around his skill set. If he’s not the one, they’ll get someone with the same set but better. That’s not Pryor — far from it.

    I’d rather see a backup of the same style teach the rest of the offense and then plug in the improvement when it shows up. Jsut like any other position. You don’t change the offense because you have your backup TE in; you have the next guy up do what he can so that 10 other guys don’t have to change. QB is not any different.

    We gave up like a 2nd and 30 and a 3rd and 20 for first downs in the last quarter. THOUGHTS??
    473. Agree with you there.
    When you’ve got your opponent down like that, please don’t ease up, stand even harder on his throat! Other than that thought the “D” played well, particularly CWood whose supreme effort, along with Houston, is starting to rub off on the younger guys. Leading by example, not by talk. As for the offense, enjoy TP’s leadership qualities, with the young talent we have I believe it will work in the long run. May not be pretty stats wise, but as long as we are one point better than our opponents, that’s what really matters.

    campbell was a mediocre passer and pryor stinks.

    we don’t have to pretend otherwise in order to be “fair”.

    they won DESPITE pryor.

    they went 8-8 with campbell.

    mediocre. just like him.

  • Dakota

    Yes, I said Jason Campbell was a decent game manager who would never win us a playoff game or SB either…..and I was right……and he is now a backup QB and is happy holding a clipboard. But I defended Campbell after his first season here and said there were no better QBs on the market than him, so he was a good choice to keep in 2011. We just were not going to win anything with him…..McFadden carried those two 8-8 seasons….when he went down, the season went down in 2011.

    I wanted Culpepper to start over McClown one year.

    I don’t care what skin color our QB has…I was in here fiercely defending Russell after his below average first few games…..until the offseason where he skipped some practice to go be with his mommy while she had knee surgery or some other excuse to go home and eat and party.

    I just care about a QBs ability to throw a pass and win games.

    I don’t care if I offend you and your agenda…I am just telling it like it is…..and the QB who will make us into a competitor is not currently on this roster.

    our QB of the future is in college right now, or Chicago.

    So it’s all trivial.

    But PLENTY of 1st year QBs have stepped in the last few years, and this year (Manuel) and put up 250+ yards, multiple TDs right away.

    Ours hasn’t. Not even close. So bad, in fact, that coaches won’t even let him PASS THE BALL on 3rd and 9. Twice they just either handed it off or called a quick swing pass. That speaks VOLUMES about what they think of his development, no?
