Pryor practicing, showing no obvious signs of concussion

ALAMEDA – Quarterback Terrelle Pryor is at practice Friday, and he is doing far more than he did at any point this week while he recovered from a concussion. Therefore, there’s still a chance that he will start against the Washington Redskins.

Pryor took a few snaps and wore a helmet at Thursday’s practice, according to coach Dennis Allen. However, Pryor did not wear a helmet and attempted only one pass during the media window.

Most coaches are hesitant to start a quarterback who hasn’t practiced much the week before the game. Allen’s history puts him in this camp. The Raiders host the Redskins on Sunday.

Still, it remains to be seen whether Allen goes with Matt Flynn or Pryor. He said Wednesday that he likely won’t make an announcement beforehand, meaning people might not know until Sunday morning.

Pryor started the Raiders first three games this season. Flynn’s lone snaps came at the end of the Raiders-Broncos game in which Pryor suffered a concussion.

Allen will speak with the media shortly after noon today, at which time he is expected to provide an update on Pryor’s status.

Pryor said Wednesday that he is confident that he could perform well in a game without much, if any, practice time.

Just the same, he added, it’s hard enough to succeed taking all the reps with the first-team offense, let alone missing significant time in practice.

“I’m not Peyton (Manning),” Pryor said. “I do need experience. It’s definitely what I lack. I need experience. I need more time with my guys. That’s what I’ve lacked this whole season, starting from the first game.”

Pryor has started four games during his NFL career, including all three of the Raiders games this season.

As for the legality of the hit that concussed Pryor, the league said today that it won’t fine Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard for his helmet-to-facemask hit, according to a Fox Sports report.

If Watson comes back and plays well at the LT position do we move Veldeer to RT?

    Here’s my take…

Understanding concussions may be in it’s infancy, but there isnt much more to understand than this…

Concussions are permanent bruises to the brain. Pretty simple. They dont heal. The bruise never goes away. The symptoms do though.

And if youve ever had a legitimate concussion, you know they are no joke. And that the symptoms are scary.

A “mild concussion”? IDK what that is or if it even exists. Is it getting your bell rung?

Because I know what a real concussion is. When you forget what happened. You forget most of the following week. Sentences are hard to finish and its impossible to hold a train of thought.

Now after a couple weeks, that goes away and you eventually remember what went down “while you were out”. But while it’s going down, in the moment, you are “stuck on stupid” and it’s hard to figure out.

And you certainly are not acting in your own best interest. If Pryor says he’s fine, it means nothing. He’s on autopilot right now. He’ll think back a few weeks from now and go “what was I thinking”.

Sit Pryor if you care for his long term health. He has ZERO chance of losing his starting role no matter what Flynnch does.

the OLine should look like this soon:

    veld/wats/wiz/barnes/pashos

    I doubt it.

Lets be honest, the odds of Watson outplaying Veldheer at LT are pretty slim.

Lets just be happy and enjoy the fact that when Watson & Veldy are healthy, we’re going to have 3 quality tackles.

Lets focus on getting the guard situation fixed.

Im tired of the (phantom) Wiz false starts. He was a better LG.

  • the soulful dr robert

sit him if u care about him for sure.

but when flynn easily outproduces him, it’s easy to make the switch.

there isn’t a real person in this world who thinks he’s done one thing to secure his job long term.

  • Raider_Riff

There are plenty that think he’s done enough to warrant the job long term.

Youre just ignoring them. But the list is long. NFL players. Guys with way more cred than you. Deal with it.

  • R8erEduc8er

That’s what I always said. Veldeer and Wiz had chemistry lining up next to each other.

  • Raider_Riff

Yep. Neither have been as dominant since being split up.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Why would you do that man?
    Veldheer is a great LT.
Watson is not only a RT but the guy has little experience at playing either position.

Dennis Allen said Terrelle Pryor is cleared medically for full contact

  • R8erEduc8er

I honestly can’t see us winning with Flynn starting. I’m gonna root like h*ll if he’s starting, but I can only visualize the team getting deflated on Flynn’s incompletion on his very 1st throw of the game…never to return to a level of competence.

  • Thec

Skins have said they are prepping for Pryor.

#Raiders are going to give Terrelle Pryor one more test as a precautionary measure, peace of mind. If Pryor passes, he’s playing Sunday.

  • Raider_Riff

I wonder though how good the tests are.

Allen also said he hopes rookie tackle Menelik Watson (knee) can return to practice next week

  • R8erEduc8er

Only problem is the current regime wasn’t here to witness that chemistry so Wiz shall permanently remain at Center.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Unfortunately that’s true.
As to whether the symptoms go away……..a lot of former players would disagree with you.

  • jumpnjiminy

Sorta sorry you feel that way…I hope Flynn surprises all his haters and gets us another win…I root for who’s under center with the Raiders…only exception that bum Palm…oh never mind!

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

None of the beat writers, who all think he’s made great strides, think so.
After 4 games, no reputable source would, even if his performances had been significantly better.
And we should say 3 games, as none but a few nut jobs here thought the SD game was anything more than acceptable, if that.
    Where’s your long list?

  • Theghostronin79

    Steve Corkran ‏@CorkOnTheNFL 1m

Coach Dennis Allen said he and the #Raiders want to make sure they “do the right thing for this kid,” in reference to addition test on Pryor

  • Raider_Riff

So Pryor is cleared to play officially.

Im still not sold on it though.

Only Pryor really knows where his head is at. And to be honest, he might not know. He’s on autopilot.

Nobody is cold on the canvas like that without it being a real concussion. The symptoms last weeks.

I dont care to see Flynnch out there but I think Pryor is our QB for the next 10 years. And we are jeapordizing that right now. He gets hit again and it’s lights out.

  • R8erEduc8er

Not hating. I want every Raider to succeed. Just based on what I saw in preseason, I have no confidence in Flynn. If he starts, I WANT him to prove me wrong.

  • Thec

even less with our oline issues.

  • Raider_Riff

After 200+ concussions, yeah, they probably dont go away.

I think Ive had a bunch of “mild” ones.

Ive had I think 3 legitimate ones to my knowledge. That isnt that many. The first one I didnt know I was concussed. I re-did it a week later, so that was #2. The symptoms stayed with me for a month.

That was years ago. I feel fine now (relatively).

But I didnt play pro ball and take concussions on a weekly basis. You cant compare “them” to “us”.

  • jumpnjiminy

I agree with the part about jeapordizing except to say he should not start to protect his health. Too many ex nflers are hurting or prematurly dead b/c coaches played them when they needed more time to heal…

  • the soulful dr robert

interesting how the nfl still doesn’t get it.

a few days ago, the kid can’t remember anything and now he’s ready for more hits.

Allen is a boob. Just tell us pryor is starting or flynn is starting
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Allen and his coaches had the team ready to play-and they played hard and didn’t quit-in two out of three games.
The third game, Peyton Manning was there.
You’re just pizzed because you want Prior to start.
Allen has seen plenty of guys with concussion and Pryor’s health should come first.

  • Raider_Riff

Let me say this, I dont trust the NFLs concussion tests.

It’s in their best interest to get guys out there.

And I think players will do anything to skirt the tests.

I’d sure love to know what goes into this testing.

  • RealTruRaider

lol, yeah I bet you are so worried about Pryors health

  • jumpnjiminy

Yes. Alfred Morris is a very patient runner. He waits for his blocking lanes to develop. Complete opposite running style of McFadden. We practice every day against DMC. Morris worries me.

Exactly, let him play from the pocket.
