Pryor practicing, showing no obvious signs of concussion

By Steve Corkran
Friday, September 27th, 2013 at 11:21 am in Oakland Raiders.

ALAMEDA – Quarterback Terrelle Pryor is at practice Friday, and he is doing far more than he did at any point this week while he recovered from a concussion. Therefore, there’s still a chance that he will start against the Washington Redskins.

Pryor took a few snaps and wore a helmet at Thursday’s practice, according to coach Dennis Allen. However, Pryor did not wear a helmet and attempted only one pass during the media window.

Most coaches are hesitant to start a quarterback who hasn’t practiced much the week before the game. Allen’s history puts him in this camp. The Raiders host the Redskins on Sunday.

Still, it remains to be seen whether Allen goes with Matt Flynn or Pryor. He said Wednesday that he likely won’t make an announcement beforehand, meaning people might not know until Sunday morning.

Pryor started the Raiders first three games this season. Flynn’s lone snaps came at the end of the Raiders-Broncos game in which Pryor suffered a concussion.

Allen will speak with the media shortly after noon today, at which time he is expected to provide an update on Pryor’s status.

Pryor said Wednesday that he is confident that he could perform well in a game without much, if any, practice time.

Just the same, he added, it’s hard enough to succeed taking all the reps with the first-team offense, let alone missing significant time in practice.

“I’m not Peyton (Manning),” Pryor said. “I do need experience. It’s definitely what I lack. I need experience. I need more time with my guys. That’s what I’ve lacked this whole season, starting from the first game.”

Pryor has started four games during his NFL career, including all three of the Raiders games this season.

As for the legality of the hit that concussed Pryor, the league said today that it won’t fine Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard for his helmet-to-facemask hit, according to a Fox Sports report.

Based on what? He has the speed, footwork, and looks physical enough. Lets not condemn him after 3 games. Payton Manning makes everyone look like crap.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

‘Warranting the job long term’ is not the same as ‘worth developing’, now, is it?

  • the soulful dr robert

    not for long

  • Thec

Hayden is a Rook. Game will slow down for him at somepoint soon.

  • KoolKell

    You forgot John Madden

  • Thec

    Based on what?

  • Raider_Riff

I think you are right. Pryor fans are worried he will lose his job.

They are being over sensitive. There is ZERO chance he loses his job.

  • Thec

    Flynnch staring this week?

  • the soulful dr robert

none of those people said “long term”. they all basically said he’s done enuff to be given a shot.

no one thinks he has done a thing worthy of being “the guy” long term.

  • the soulful dr robert

    pryor sucking.

  • Theghostronin79

    Gruden too

  • RealTruRaider

Blasphemy, have you not been watching ESPN/NFL NETWORK/PFT/FOXSPORTS/ SO ON AND SO ON. OPEN YOUR FKIN EYES/EARS. C’MON MAN

  • jumpnjiminy

They probably all like Tim Tebow too…so what?

  • Al_istheRaiders

hayden is dissapointing he is playing just as dvd is never finds the ball….a pick that high needs to make a difference….he has not.(cwood did)

  • Raider_Riff

A lot of those guys did indeed say he is the long term answer. Howie Long for starters. Bill Polian as well.

  • the soulful dr robert

NOBODY has EVER said pryor is doing anything well enuff to be the “the man” long term. they said give him a shot and that they were surprised so far that he’s improved.

    his numbers are garbage.

on pace for 11 td passes for a full season.

    #27 in yardage.

    horrid.

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

Yeah, I’ve had my share of mild ones too Riff. No doubt there are different degrees of concussion but there isn’t a guy on the planet who can tell you just how damaging “mild” ones are.
Maybe you’re punchdrunk and don’t know just how badly those “mild” wilds affected you Riff.

  • R8erEduc8er

Hayden had no training camp (mostly) and no preseason. Three regular season games without camp and preseason is a tall order. I’m not worried about Hayden.

  • RealTruRaider

Not worth arguing with these fools, they made up their mind about Pryor long ago, its archived (well it was), they will never admit they were wrong

  • Theghostronin79

I think you just don’t want to take the time to develop him.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Do not misunderstand, I would tend to stick with him this year barring bad regression. He is not, at the moment, what I want our QB to be.

  • Raider_Riff

My last IQ test says otherwise. But youre right, we dont really know what the effect of mild concussions are. I might have been a lot smarter when I was younger. There’s no way I’d know.

But those arent really the discussion.

We’re talking bonafide concussions. The average player has LOTS of these. Romonowski says he had over 400 by his estimates.

Those are the one’s with really dibilitating symptoms that never really go away.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Not the case at all.

  • RealTruRaider

You obviously only hear/watch what you want to, you have been wrong about EVERYTHING since you started posting here, you a damn fool

  • Raider_Riff

CWood joined a franchise that was in much better shape.

    CWood is a Hall-of-Famer

Just because you are picked #12 in the 1st round of a weak draft doesnt mean you should be held to HOF standards.

If he amounts to a solid starter for 6-8 seasons, his career and draft status would have been a success.

  • J Hill

Would have been interesting to see this week develop had Pryor not been hurt.

1-2 with the division slipping away???

How long of a rope does Pryor have record wise before we see another QB?

  • the soulful dr robert

nope. i’ve been RIGHT on every single player evaluation.

    pryor
    dmc
    sims
    barnes

    all of them.

  • R8erEduc8er

Lol @ you a damn fool

  • the soulful dr robert

wrong? he has 2 td passes in 3 games.

    he’s horrible.

  • R8erEduc8er

    Stupid play call…

  • Raider_Riff

Your numbers are garbage. You average like 9 down votes per post. By far the worst semi-pro in the business.

PFF graded you out as a -8.4 last week.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

If you think he’s done enough in 3 games to ‘warrant the job long term’, fine. I don’t. And that was Riff’s contention that I was disputing.
Relax, already. I, too, like Pryor.

  • the soulful dr robert

a bunch of pusses acting like girls.

just shows i won their minds and they hate that i’m right.

LOL. down votes. who the fvck cares?

  • Raider_Riff

Nobody thinks he’s where he should be. The film on him from Denver shows he left a ton of plays on the field.

But considering he put up 280 yds while also missing a ton of stuff, that is promising. So I think we are in agreeance.

  • Theghostronin79

When it comes to “Leash”……I don’t think it’s tied to record….I think it’s individualized. If he’s consistently turning the ball over, killing drives, not getting into the endzone, missing throws….I think he gets 1/2 to 2/3 of the season.
He didn’t turn the ball over in the last two games. Completion percentage has increased since game 1. He only ran the ball 4 times against Denver. Stayed home and threw from the pocket and had some nice passes late in the game…..
I think THAT is what they’re looking at. Not so much the final score. If he shows progression and improvement without stalling or regression, I think he stays.

  • the soulful dr robert

    garbage time stats

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

It appears something is trying to feed off perceived contention here, so i’m done with this thread.

  • Theghostronin79

    Vic Tafur ‏@VicTafur 2m

Allen was asked if there were also competitive reasons for not naming a starter, and he said, “yeah.”

    ===========
    No SHEEET Dennis……..

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

So like…..you’re agreeing with him but dumping on him anyway?

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

J, that view in your picture looks familiar, what is it?

  • jumpnjiminy

    yo – new posts

  • Theghostronin79

LMAO……NO, I’m not agreeing with him. I think the whole thing is stupid…..Just saying “No SH*T” because, Of course he was gonna say that.

    hayden is dissapointing.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Not if you recognize that he’s a rookie.
As I said on draft day, he’s a gamble.
You just don’t know how what happened to him is going to affect him mentally and whether he’ll ever be able to go all out without worrying about the consequences.
Right now he’s playing about as far off the receivers as Hall used to for us.

  • Raideraholic

Terrelle Pryor (concussion) was limited in Friday’s practice and is listed as
questionable for Week 4 against Washington.

We remain skeptical Pryor will get the nod against the
Redskins following Adam Schefter’s Thursday report, but he’s clearly coming
along. “I like the progress I’ve seen,” said coach Dennis Allen following
Friday’s limited workout. “He’s made significant progress.” Pryor has passed all
but one of the league’s protocol concussion tests. We’ll continue to update this
situation into Sunday morning. The Raiders and Redskins square off.
    ——————————————–
I think he will be the starter

  • Al_istheRaiders

    cwood had a rookie half.

  • Al_istheRaiders

    hiw did you like bey?

  • Raider_Riff

DHB was not a solid starter for 6-8 seasons.

He “started”. But was far from a contributor. So many critical drops.

He was a huge disappointment for me.

I loved his work ethic. But it never panned out oddly enough. This says it all about DHB for me…

other qb’s out there that can do better? David Carr? Trent Edwards, Graham Harrell, Byron Leftwich,Matt Leinart, John Skelton, Tim Tebow?

  • http://facebook.com/Unicron5 Samnificient Jonsey

I agree. But supposedly 2014′s class of QB’s is much better, and Josh Freeman and Sam Bradford are starting to look like they’ve hit the wall and have declined…Bridgewater or McCarron? Ready to start the process all over again – or do we think Pryor eventually develops beyond Tavaris Jackson level?

  • http://facebook.com/Unicron5 Samnificient Jonsey

Think Hayden (by passing Star Louletelei) and the Flynn deal doom Reggie if we go 6-10? New GM would fare better with great cap space. You really trust this guy to get the players to get us over the hump?
