Sanford, Crawford in line for playing time Sunday

ALAMEDA — Left defensive end Jason Hunter missed all three practices this week with a sore quadriceps. Even so, coach Dennis Allen is leaving open the possibility of Hunter healing well enough to give it a go against the Washington Redskins.
More than likely, though, Hunter won’t be able to play — he’s listed as questionable — and the Raiders will turn to Brian Sanford and Jack Crawford to help fill the void.
Sanford is a third-year players out of Temple. Crawford is in his second season out of Penn State. Allen feels as if Sanford is a bit ahead of Crawford in terms of being a polished all-around player.
“He’s got some versatility,” Allen said of Sanford. “He can play inside in the nickel, he’s got a little bit of rush ability but he’s also athletic enough that he can play some base defensive end for us and that’s really the role that he’s played on our defense.”
As for Crawford, he didn’t play much his rookie season, as the Raiders leaned heavily upon veterans Lamarr Houston, Andre Carter and others.
If Hunter can’t play Sunday, it’s an ideal opportunity for Crawford to make a case for more playing time from here on out.
“There’s still a lot of improvement that he needs to make,” Allen said of Crawford. “We feel good with some of the guys that we have and feel good with Brian Sanford going in there. … It would be a great opportunity for Jack if Jason’s not able to go, to get in and play and do some good things.”

– Rookie offensive tackle Menelik Watson hasn’t played all season because of a torn ligament in his right knee that required surgery.
Allen said he is “hopeful” that Watson will be cleared to resume practicing next week. Watson missed most of training camp with an injury he suffered during the offseason and then got shut down a few days after he first practiced in camp.
It will be interesting to see what the Raiders do upon Watson’s return. He was slated to start the regular-season opener at left offensive tackle.
Khalif Barnes is at the left tackle spot now, with veteran Tony Pashos playing well at the right tackle spot. It says here that Watson goes to left tackle — at least until Jared Veldheer returns from his triceps injury — and Barnes moves into one of the guard spots.

– Here are the official status reports of the injured Raiders for Sunday’s game:
SS Tyvon Branch (out); Hunter, LB Sio Moore (probable), G Lucas Nix (questionable), FB Jamize Olawale (probable), CB Tracy Porter (probable), QB Terrelle Pryor (questionable) and Watson (out).

    BREAKING NEWS: Pryor is starting

(thumbs up if you know more about football than Dr Roberta)

  • lefty12

Anyone who doesn’t understand that a QB that is slow making his reads and leaves the pocket too early makes his linemen’s job more difficult doesn’t know a damn thing about football. So any young, inexperienced QB will at times hurt his Oline. This is not a knock on TP,it is something every team that starts a rookie/inexp. QB must deal with.It is too bad general football talk isn’t allowed on here by some.It has ruined this once good discussion board.

  • 0ak R8rs

Well that doesn’t make any sense? I thought Flynn was DA and Reggie’s “guy”. Why on earth would they start Pryor when they had the perfect opportunity to conspire against Pryor to destroy his career and reinsert Flynn? This can’t be true. If this is true, then perhaps we actually have management and leadership? I know that’s difficult for some Raider fans to comprehend. It’s been over a decade. But perhaps?

No. Must just be a mistake. Maybe DA is so stupid he forgot how to say Flynn when he was asked who was starting? Yea, that’s it. It can’t be that Reggie and DA r leaders that understand football and recognize what it takes to win? No, DA must have forgotten how to spell.

Btw, is there a “saracasm button” in this new format?

  • the soulful dr robert

Ur both idiots. I’m still right about Flynn being good and Pryor sucking no matter who starts.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

You mean like how a comment about special teams winds up meaning you must love/hate Pryor/Flynn?

Easy now big fella. We’ll have no name callin in here.

  • GhostToThePost

Amazing. The same sorry whimpers from the Pryor Posse. “wah wah wah. I blame DA. I blame Reggie. I blame EVERYONE EXCEPT PRYOR. EVERYONE IS given the playbook. It’s up to the PERSON TO KNOW IT, OR NOT. Flynn came into Seattle. Wilson got the starting job. NO ONE CRIED LIKE A LITTLE GIRL THAT WILSON WASN’T CODDLED FROM DAY ONE. He took it and ran.

Now? idiots like priest are crying that pryor NOW has to learn? He doesn’t know it because HE DIDN’T LEARN IT. he’s not a rookie. He’s had a whole damn year to learn everything he can.

  • lefty12

Once again, did you read what I said.I said he makes the line better at times. He buys time and escapes pressure. But he doesn’t do that every pass play. And how can you say sometimes his reads are a little slow and not acknowledge that puts more pressure on the line?I’m not knocking him or expecting him to be perfect, just making an observation and trying to sensibly talk Raider football. But I’m realizing that isn’t allowed here any longer.

Congrats on spelling your handle correctly this time, btw.

  • GhostToThePost

No one was happy with Flynn’s 12.6 qb rating. Gloom and doom.
Then Pryor puts up a 9.9 qb rating the following week. Yes, more gloom and doom.
Reality is our qb situation? It is what it is.
Did Pryor win the starting job?
    With a 9.9 rating?
Or did Flynn lose it due to his ugly outing and his flimflam arm?

Flynn is not the answer. And IMO neither is Pryor.
Pryor got the start due to Flynn’s arm failing him, again.

Said it before. Pay attention. When I first signed on, someone else already had ghost, so I had to add an extra o, because I use this handle elsewhere. On this new site, I had first shot at it, and took it.
    You need it explained AGAIN?

The guy doing the Stanford broadcast sounds sh!tfaced,

  • Blackholepriest

Ghost, lol. Pryor knows that play book inside and out man……..lol

We’re talking about reps with the play book with the 1st the team. Maybe this is just way over your head. Get some sleep and watch TP put on a show tomorrow.

Or maybe you like the smokescreen put out by the coaches. Because this has been hashed and rehashed and everyone knows what happened and what should’ve happened”………..period

  • 0ak R8rs

Ok. Whatever makes you feel better about yourself. Lots of people r embarrassed about “there” lack of reading and writing skills. If it helps your self esteem, I’ll “except” any excuse I suppose.

  • lefty12

You can say a DB is a moron and useless because he gave up a reception, you can call for an Olineman to be cut because he missed a block, you can say a WR should be benched because he either dropped a pass or ran the wrong route, but you can’t say its possible Pryor could have made any mistake or you are labeled and called names.SMH

If all that you say is true then why for the love of kittens won’t he audible a quick slant when the d has 7-8-9 even 10 in the freaking box.

    I find it suspect,

  • GhostToThePost

First off, no he DOESN’T know the playbook inside out. He admitted as such. And pay attention, pops, because apparently you don’t have a damn clue. Pryor didn’t get reps with the ones BECAUSE HE WASN’T A ONE.
What part of that confuses you? He didn’t get reps until THE STARTER GOT INJURED.
    You still confused?
Your comments about the smokescreen whimper and whine proves my point. Hell, your meltdown where you begged for Pryor to “be traded. released. just let him go anywhere else” proves you not only don’t have a clue, but are a full blown idiot.
don’t try to discuss the game with me.
I’ll leave you in the dust.
    Like every other time.

Whoever the QB is better throw a TD to Streater. My WRs are thin this week.

  • lefty12

Flynn was acquired and the presumed starter thus given the 1st team reps.TP was given the 2nd team reps.As TC wore on,Pryor won the job and was given the 1st team reps and Flynn the 2nd team reps.Where would the back-up be given the 1st teams reps while the presumed starter was given 2nd team reps?

  • Blackholepriest

Also, Lefty12 we understand it more than you do. Because eventhough we realize he has to grow the good far outweighs the bad because of his athleticism and constant growth. You want to nitpick everything he does to point out the negative you rarely ever mention the positive when it comes to TP. Because of your obvious agenda. TP helps this line faaarrrrr more than he hurts it. You know it we know it and so do the coaches thus his starting status.

You want Flynn in there so bad you’ll use any reason available. Flynn was the man it’s HIS FAULT he no longer is…..periodis…….perq

Hopefully and I mean this, Flynn somehow gets another shot so some of you can avoid the rubber room. God knows we’re freakin sick of your whining……period

Ah, the weakest of the weak. The “you spelled it wrong” whine.
    Here’s my prediction.
Soon you will be begging me to leave you alone.
