Sanford, Crawford in line for playing time Sunday

ALAMEDA — Left defensive end Jason Hunter missed all three practices this week with a sore quadriceps. Even so, coach Dennis Allen is leaving open the possibility of Hunter healing well enough to give it a go against the Washington Redskins.
More than likely, though, Hunter won’t be able to play — he’s listed as questionable — and the Raiders will turn to Brian Sanford and Jack Crawford to help fill the void.
Sanford is a third-year players out of Temple. Crawford is in his second season out of Penn State. Allen feels as if Sanford is a bit ahead of Crawford in terms of being a polished all-around player.
“He’s got some versatility,” Allen said of Sanford. “He can play inside in the nickel, he’s got a little bit of rush ability but he’s also athletic enough that he can play some base defensive end for us and that’s really the role that he’s played on our defense.”
As for Crawford, he didn’t play much his rookie season, as the Raiders leaned heavily upon veterans Lamarr Houston, Andre Carter and others.
If Hunter can’t play Sunday, it’s an ideal opportunity for Crawford to make a case for more playing time from here on out.
“There’s still a lot of improvement that he needs to make,” Allen said of Crawford. “We feel good with some of the guys that we have and feel good with Brian Sanford going in there. … It would be a great opportunity for Jack if Jason’s not able to go, to get in and play and do some good things.”

– Rookie offensive tackle Menelik Watson hasn’t played all season because of a torn ligament in his right knee that required surgery.
Allen said he is “hopeful” that Watson will be cleared to resume practicing next week. Watson missed most of training camp with an injury he suffered during the offseason and then got shut down a few days after he first practiced in camp.
It will be interesting to see what the Raiders do upon Watson’s return. He was slated to start the regular-season opener at left offensive tackle.
Khalif Barnes is at the left tackle spot now, with veteran Tony Pashos playing well at the right tackle spot. It says here that Watson goes to left tackle — at least until Jared Veldheer returns from his triceps injury — and Barnes moves into one of the guard spots.

– Here are the official status reports of the injured Raiders for Sunday’s game:
SS Tyvon Branch (out); Hunter, LB Sio Moore (probable), G Lucas Nix (questionable), FB Jamize Olawale (probable), CB Tracy Porter (probable), QB Terrelle Pryor (questionable) and Watson (out).

Had to learn to read defenses three times?
Had to learn how to throw accurately three times?
Hasn’t learned any of the above. Not once. Not twice. And sure as hell not three times.

You know, if you want us to believe you’re actually Priesttj12 you should stop ending EVERY post w “…….period”. He did it alot. But not at the expense of making sense. He used it while making a point, for emphasis. You should study a little harder next time you wanna impersonate someone. It wasn’t his signature. Just saying……..

  • GhostToThePost

    That’s been proven.
    Many times.

LOL. That idiot IS priest. You think someone would take the time to post that silly ramblings, that make no sense? Where the poster tells everyone to JUST MOVE ON, which is usually after he spent at least an hour stating he REFUSES TO MOVE ON?
    It’s priest, moron.

I will say it again….If the front office or coaching staff wants to get a good look at Flynn they have the perfect excuse to do so with the concussion and a weak opponent coming up. If you see Pryor out there to start the game you will know how little confidence the front office and coaching staff has in Flynn.

  • 0ak R8rs

To take a quote from Kell, you’re a bully. And I don’t like bullies. Idc what you say to me. I don’t like you. And it’s personal, I’m not just talking about your football knowledge or the lack thereof. I don’t like YOU, as a person.

I stop posting to certain people because its pointless. Not because I’m “blog scared” or whatever the heck it is that you’re trying to insinuate.

All one has to do is look at the way you talk to Doc or Priest or anyone else on here that doesn’t agree a you, and one can see you’re a blowhard and a bully.

    That’s why I’m in your shlt. You’re not a good person…………….period.

  • rioderek

It’s a good thing you’re nothing more than a guy with an opinion, because I haven’t heard an expert yet who agrees with you. All the professionals see Pryor for what he his (a rising star), while some (the clueless) may see different.

  • GhostToThePost

    Said same thing earlier.
Perfect time to see what Flynn has against a really weak, ranked last, defense. Probably no better time.

  • lefty12

You are a biased idiot.I came out and said I thought Pryor won the job.I’m not going to try and explain it again to your narrow mind.As long as Pryor is healthy,I want him playing. It isn’t nit-picking fool,it is called having a discussion. One,and one thing only, that you even become remotely close to being correct about is saying I’ve got an agenda.Damn right I do and it is to see the Raiders being great again-regardless of who the QB is.

  • 0ak R8rs

Oh, haha. Ok then. Carry on.

  • rioderek

Stupid is posting moronic pictures, like an immature nitwit.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Pryor is a stop gap QB until we draft another one next year.

  • Blackholepriest

If that’s all you want then chill. We all acknowledge TP’s shortcomings. We get it, So relax!

    I done…..adios!

  • 0ak R8rs

    Well, that’s better.

  • Blackholepriest

They have confidence in Flynn they just think TP is better………period

I’d like to see a confident Flynn play myself. So I know we have two good qb’s.

  • RediaR

The “experts” had such low expectations for both Pryor and the Raiders in general that any positive play makes them do a double take.

  • 0ak R8rs

Took him 2 years to learn how to throw reasonably accurately. He doesn’t throw accurately enough yet.

Takes more than 3 games w two years on the bench, because he couldn’t throw, and we were burdened w quitting/choking/loser, to learn how to read defenses. He hasn’t thrown a pick in two games as I recall. Not so bad.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

I think I will do what everybody did last year….root for the 3rd string QB!

    Go McGloin!

  • GhostToThePost

Of COURSE. I mean, why else would they wait until after flynn’s arm flares up to state TP is starting?
Sure. They “think” tP is better.
    Makes total sense. LOL

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

I hope this means he will play:

Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor will start on Sunday against the Washington Redskins, less than a week after suffering a concussion at Denver.

A league source said that Pryor passed a final concussion-related test on Saturday, which was above and beyond the NFL-mandated protocol. He was formally cleared for full contact on Friday morning, but the Raiders wanted to test him once more before playing the Redskins at the Oakland Coliseum. He passed.

  • http://raiders.com/ whoknows
  • RediaR

Flynn should start this game. If he doesn’t have an outstanding performance against the weakest defense in the NFL he shouldn’t start another game this season.

If Flynn fails to meet the mark, Pryor should be next in line and get all starts until he proves he isn’t a franchise QB.

If that happens we should draft a QB, regardless of any good McGloin or Wilson games.

That said Pryor probably starts this week.

  • Morilla_00

Been busy with family in town for the past couple of days and disconnected from the 1′s and 0′s. Is this report from Vic legit?

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

IMO this shows they have little or no faith in Flynn and will be done with him after the season is over.

  • rioderek

The Washington Post notes: If Pryor is out, then the Redskins could catch a break. Gone is the mobile threat (Pryor leads the team in rushing and averages 7.6 yards per carry). The team would have an easier time containing Flynn, a traditional drop-back passer. The Redskins also would be able to be more aggressive in their pass rush, which will help their struggling secondary.
Most experts know Flynns limitations. The guy has been a backup for all but one season since HIGH SCHOOL.

  • lefty12

Why,Pryor is the starting QB.If he is healthy enough to play,he should play.IMO,this has nothing to do with Flynn.

  • GhostToThePost

We stupidly signed Flynn to $ and need to find out if he’s even worth keeping around.
I mean, if he’s out, then get next in line ready.

  • rioderek

    Unfortunately you’re correct.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    Love it!

  • GhostToThePost

Obviously Flynn’s arm isn’t impressing anyone during practice.

I don’t think it’s a big secret that DA is worried about his job.
No doubt the only thing that will get him another year are W’s.
If Pryor does get the nod, as stated below, that does not bode well for your future, Matty.

A guy like Palmer or Flynn would get killed behind the Raiders O-line. Those guys have benefitted the most from Pryor.

  • lefty12

Have to wonder how the ‘Old Blue” are going to accept this beat down?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

At last you had no illusions going in. Raiders prepare you for rooting for WSU or Vice versa.

  • RediaR

You know what, I’ve just turned a corner. I don’t trust Flynn with this tendinitis looming over him. I know he has talent, but if we can’t trust his arm not to fall off every once in a while he can’t be considered the franchise guy. Take the rest of the year to solidly prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Pryor either isn’t a franchise QB, or deserves a longer look. Just don’t Gabbert him by handing him the keys a second year after playing like sh!t.

    If he’s the guy, WIN!
If he sucks, draft a guy or two from a deep QB class. WIN!

Reggie Mc simply ignored the teams glaring need for a veteran receiver who can run routes and consistently catch the ball. He also ignored the obvious o-line issues and a pass rusher (Abraham or Freeney). Instead he loaded up on LB’s, DT’s and TE’s and garbage QB’s.
