Final: Redskins 24, Raiders 14

With Terrelle Pryor on the sidelines dealing with the after-effects of a concussion and running backs Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece out by halftime because of injuries, the punchless Raiders fell 24-14 to the Washington Redskins Sunday at O.co Coliseum.

The Raiders finish the first quarter of the season with a 1-3 record after finding themselves unable to build on a 14-0 first-quarter lead because of an inability to move the ball consistently.

Washington, which came in giving up an NFL high 488 yards per game in an 0-3 start, got a lot better against an Oakland offense directed by Matt Flynn.

The Raiders were reportedly leaning toward starting Pryor after he was cleared to play Friday, but according to Fox Sports, the quarterback began having concussion symptoms Saturday evening.

With the Raiders leading 14-3, Flynn threw an interception directly to David Amerson that was run back 45 yards for a touchdown and was too often unable to find receivers or deliver first downs to keep drives alive.

The Redskins took the lead for good with 2:58 left in the third quarter when Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III hit Pierre Garcon on a 5-yard slant against rookie cornerback D.J. Hayden.

Washington put the game away when San Ramon Valley High product Roy Helu Jr. ran 14 yards through the heart of the Oakland defense for a touchdown with 6:59 left. The score was set up when Ryan Kerrigan stripped Flynn on a dropback, with Barry Cofield recovering at the Oakland 28-yard line.

The Raiders struck first when Rashad Jennings blocked a Sav Rocca punt, with James Stewart recovering in the end zone. Flynn made it 14-0 with an 18-yard touchdown pass to rookie tight end Mychal Rivera.

Flynn, booed heavily following the last turnover, completed 20 of 31 passes for 210 yards with the touchdown pass and interception which was returned for a touchdown. He was sacked seven times by a defense that wasn’t shackled by the threat of Pryor’s breakaway runs as the previous three opponents were.

McFadden, who had some strong runs early in the game, left in the second quarter with a hamstring injury and was in street clothes during the second half. He had five carries for 29 yards. Reece departed with a knee injury in the second quarter and did not return.

Griffin, although not nearly the runner he was as a rookie as he recovers from reconstructed knee surgery, completed 18 of 31 passes for 227 yards and the touchdown to Garcon.

on his stomach – looking down at it

  • EMRaiders

A lot of people posting I have never seen before. Welcome. I hope you are all originals and not clones with different names. Otherwise known as trolls.

  • Rico Stifler

Olsen should be looking for a new job……

  • KoolKell

    No urgency shown whatever

  • RealTruRaider

Don’t hold your breath, that fool can’t stay away that long

  • Raider_Riff

Not at all. As per usual.

Hell, I expect TP2 to take more responsibility.

  • JaMarcusGotScrewed

All those weapons and all Matt Ryan can do is dink and dunk. That dude sucks so bad.

  • tuckrulefool

No….Fake dr blobert cant show up tonight…

However no worries I guarantee millions of dollars he shows tomorrow and his/her argument (needling trolling etc) will be Flynn’s STAT LINE. “he played well, what do you mean?” Just know he LIVES to needle. No humanoid can objectively defend Flynn’s attrocious play. Doing so would suggest severe brain damage.

  • GotNext

You sound silly. RM is the GM. He’s responsible for all player personnel decisions. Brisiel and Bergstrom were his and his alone. Now you’re admitting that Hayden has been underwhelming due to ALMOST DYING in college. We coulda had him in the 3rd round. Idiot.

  • EMRaiders

Unlike Pryor, he is probably blaming the Oline, and that they had to improvise because both McF and Reece went out early.

  • Rico Stifler

I posted under Demon Raider before the switch

  • Dakota

At least I still have breaking bad! OH, WAIT, NEVERMIND!

  • NYCRaider

1-3 this years does feel different than last year. solely bc TP2 has the ability to win these next 2 games

  • RealTruRaider

Figured, he is not winning many fans on or off the field with his play and demeanor, be a man and say its on me, I had a bad game etc

  • Back-N-Black

When I say Allen may not make it past this year, I am basing it on the 1-4 start. This team could realistically end the season 4-12 or 5-11. If that happens, Reggie is looking at a crap load of money, his high daft picks, and an easy roster turnover due to the 1 year contracts. Not saying I think its right, but that I can see it happening.

  • Steveopa

Pryor is our only shot at salvaging the season. I hope this coaching staff understands that his development is more important then anything else. They need to let him cut it loose to see if he capable of being the future of the franchise.

  • Reggie Fangaz

I’ve been a Raider all my life. RM, DA, DMAC, Flynn all need to thier sh-t together quick or they all can GTFOH!!!!! My Raider team needs to have a “Take No Prisoners” attitude and RM and DA haven’t shown me jack!!

  • Reg needs to get out the p00per scooper.

  • EMRaiders

ok, i remember that name. thats perobab;y the case for most new names here.

  • Papertiger

Flynn has a Rob Johnson-like understanding of the QB position 🙁

Many are not even in the Nation but want to take this opportunity to run down morale as much as they can.

  • Rico Stifler

RM signed/drafted players to fit the system that DA was bringing in. So it is coincidence that RM signed/drafted ZBS guys after DA hired Knapp to make the switch to ZBS?

Also, there were other teams who were looking to draft Hayden in the first round, so no. We would not have gotten in later than we did.

That did kind of stand out didn’t it?

  • Rico Stifler

Yeah, I chose to sign in with my twitter acct rather than create a new Disqus acct…..

  • RealTruRaider

And I wasn’t directing this at just you, you didn’t disrespect me like a couple of the others, I think its a few million though even if we cut him, before the restructure it would of been ZERO so………..

  • alex7

you don’t realize all the good players on D that RM has brought in?

The fact our D is better than it’s been for the last 10 years?

That Hayden, Watson, Moore, and Rivera all look like solid draft picks?

  • Papertiger

You shut your mouth! That’s my FF quarterback.

He just has 69yds passing because he’s a player like that.

  • Purvisman/Intrepid/Eternal Opt

So, I say Flynn for 6.5 mil. this year is easily a better deal than Palmer for the ten he would’ve been back for, or even the thirteen Vegas will tell you.
Cuz you want to sell out the season to see if somebody can ‘develop’ into a QB, right. Not have one ‘right now’ .

  • Zopi

Good ol’ Amy Trask, she clearly told us that the Flynnished fiasco is all on the Big Mac Zar. How can you sign a 6.5 backup, give him the keys to the Nation, when Flynch can’t even get out of his own way?
Wasted a whole off-season with this loser, while designing “toy packages” for Pryor. All that time wasted when it could have been spent developing Pryor and the offense to fit him.
Just for that stupidity, the Big Mac Zar should take the next bus out of town, and take that stupid Junior who masquerades as an NFL head coach out with you. Junior has to be the most uninspiring pos in the league.
Please Marky Boy, let Sparano take over the team before this situation gets uglier.

  • alex7

he’s 1-3 lifetime with 4 TD passes in 4 games. We’ll be drafting a QB in the 1st round.

  • c2e

You can’t build a team around a punter. period. The fundamental objective in winning is to outscore your opponent. Your objective is to make the best of a bad situation (not making first downs).

  • Isaac Miller

I’m chef sac. Only do game days cause during the week I’m cooking and don’t have time to catch up.

  • Dakota

    Sparano? GTFOH!

  • Rico Stifler

    Fire DA, don’t re-sign DMC, cut Flynn…

    Hire Lovie Smith.

Hit FA hard and sign RB Ben Tate, WR Eric Decker, TE Jimmy Graham, DE Greg Hardy, DE/OLB Brian Orakpo, S TJ Ward (My Eric Turner 2,0) and some starting Guards.

  • Purvisman/Intrepid/Eternal Opt

Is Zopi ‘Norco bob’? Been looking for a 49er or Amy connection.

  • alex7

but don’t we have a 5-11 type of roster? Not sure what else Allen could do. We have no play-making RB or WR, the 26th-ranked QB, and a solid D.

Coach Coughlin, Tomlin, and Fox (fired in Carolina) know you need talent to win.

  • VanHeathen30

Got to wonder if RM is really the guy to be spending all this upcoming cap money. Flynn and Seabass are looking like big wastes of money needed elsewhere.

  • KoolKell

    Absolutely. I don’t know why.

  • Purvisman/Intrepid/Eternal Opt

Seriously, he’s gotten kudos for what he’s done with what he’s got.

  • Purvisman/Intrepid/Eternal Opt

Yet again, a first time poster. They’re like cockroaches.

  • Dakota

Yeah, McKenzie might f this franchise up for another half decade if we let him spend this cap space. FML

  • Papertiger

Really peeved at these SeaBass missed FGs.

You’re bringing down Bobby April’s squad, you pudgy bum!

April is easily our best coaching addition.

  • Rico Stifler

But we needed to make the restructure to sign CWood and rookies. also, it was most of his 3.25M base salary that was converted to a bonus. So we are likely looking at about 2.4 M that was converted into said bonus which spread out over two years is 1,2M each year. So, the cap hit to cut him next year is likely to be about 1.2M.

  • Al_istheRaiders

    sure….the guy svcks.

  • alex7

what about Houston, Burnett, Porter, Woodson, Adams, Roach, Sims, Walker, and Jennings?

Every GM whiffs on a few.

  • Dakota

I see my “NO REPLY BUTTON” rule isn’t working…..

  • Rico Stifler

I know, I’m just relaying the way i understand what was done to his contract….

  • Papertiger

Wasn’t there a VanHeathen that used to post here?

  • Steveopa

Dennis Allen and Reggie McKenzie should have spent that money they gave to Flynn on a legitimate pass rusher or a proven tight end. Flynn was a waste of money and time. Flynn took away from Pryors development this offseason and Pryor still looks better then him. I can’t wait to see how Pryor will look next year when he goes into training camp and preaseason getting all the reps with the first team.

  • 0ak R8rs

Brilliant. Any of those guys wanna come here after firing a HC after two years that’s operating a team in a $50 million dollar salary deficit? Doubt it. Try again.
