Still no McFadden, though Reece looks better

By Steve Corkran

ALAMEDA — Running back Darren McFadden is nowhere to be seen on the practice field today. Rashad Jennings is the one taking all the reps with the first-team offense in case he is the one called upon against the San Diego Chargers.
McFadden left the game against the Washington Redskins after only five carries on Sunday. He suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the game and wasn’t able to make it past halftime.
On the bright side for the Raiders, fullback Marcel Reece (knee) looks as if the knee he injured against the Redskins isn’t bothering him too much, if at all.
Cornerback Charles Woodson returned to practice today after he missed Wednesday’s proceedings for what coach Dennis Allen termed a non-football reason.
Center Stefen Wisniewski is on the practice field today. However, he is just watching as his teammates go through their paces.
For now, Andre Gurode is the starting center as long as Wisniewski isn’t able to play. Lamar Mady is the backup in the middle.
Allen and the Raiders are hopeful that Wisniewski will heal well enough and in time to play against the Chargers.
Rookie Menelik Watson is taking reps at left offensive tackle today, with the second-team. Khalif Barnes still is the starter at that position.
Once Watson returns, it’s conceivable that he will push Barnes out of the left tackle spot, with Barnes moving either to right tackle or one of the guard spots.
Wide receiver Andre Holmes is practicing for the second straight day as he works his way back into form after a four-game suspension.
The Raiders have until Saturday afternoon to decide whether to activate Holmes to the 53-man, active roster. If so, they need to cut a player to make room.
If Allen opts to go without Holmes for the Chargers game, the Raiders have to make a roster move Monday if they intend to keep Holmes around, which is likely.

Its Krappy calling you out, who really cares what that derelict has to say?

  • plunkhead

Does the cult of palmer know the name of my FF team last year?

  • Just Fire Baby

Didn’t like the trade, said we should have just kept Gradkowski.
Got on board for awhile, but that lasted about two months.

  • Jay Wiggle

    Right there with you, Goldie.

Don’t think he’s the long term answer though. Need a little more Raider speed at rb

  • Just Fire Baby

20 as you liked to call him, is having a par for the course year.

Is Holmes a go for Sunday?

I hope he is as good as advertised.

It’s a great day to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?!

DMC is a great guy. DMC has cost this Team for years. Remember when he used to trip over the lines on the field, injuring himself, without even being touched? Remember when he was healthy…that one time? Remember when he stayed on the field for an entire season? Uhhm…sorry about that last one.
Point is…every time DMC goes down, the Offense must change. Every time Players change, everything on the field (and in the locker room) changes with them. There is ZERO continuity.
For the past 6-months, every training session assumed that DMC would be ready. But like usual, he breaks-down in the middle of a game, and an entire Spring’s worth of practices disappear in the wind. It’s crippling to the Offense…and DMC is broken 50% of the time. For his career.
Just like Flynn has deservedly fallen to #3 on the depth chart, DMC should fall to #2/3…and be used as a compliment to a real every-down RB.
Sadly, it’s time for DMC to be replaced as #1. He has never reached the full potential his talent level should achieve…and he’s likely passed his prime already. Enough already.

  • Cult of Palmer

We weren’t privy to that info.

  • 10centsworth

I like 20. Have him over for dinner, hot dogs with mustard. But I’ll say again…Sayers played less time in the NFL and is in the HOF. Enough.

  • plunkhead

I did not do cartwheels but OI got on early and got off late

  • 10centsworth

Did you look for the graffiti in the privy?

  • Jay Wiggle

20 is done! Can’t count on him. Was hoping he’d have ONE damn decent season for us in a contract year, but oh well.

  • r8eray

Would we get a higher comp pick for DMC than trading him?

I wonder whats the reason behind bringing all these RBs for auditions?

Maybe trading him or is his injury more serious than what we’re being told?

  • plunkhead

I had high hopes for that loser

  • Just Fire Baby

I wonder if they will activate him for this game, or hold off for next week.

  • 10centsworth

Its tough when you got SO much invested in a guy that all you think about is…damn, if we let him go, he’ll be all pro the next year. For someone else.
That sums it up for me. Enough.

  • Cult of Palmer

We’ve yet to abandon our support for him. May be forced to reconsider soon though.

  • Jay Wiggle

I asked all offseason how many games 20 got before we pulled the plug on this “running team” BS!

Changing systems and all for this dude?????

    What a waste!

  • Cult of Palmer

Before we become a bad parody of Debo!

  • Jay Wiggle

    Who’s snaps does he get?

  • 10centsworth

There is the axiom that the best years for a pro player (ha, that has stayed healthy) is 27-30.

  • Mike_Trail

Dude, You didn’t see Back the Future??????????????????? One of the best movies of all time!

  • 10centsworth

Well, if we get enough guys out there running the wrong routes…we got a passing game. SOMEONE should be in the right spot. Start him.

  • Mike_Trail

Every year since he was drafted unfortunately….

  • Cult of Palmer

Talking to 10cnts. Thought maybe he hadn’t.

  • Just Fire Baby

That I don’t know, Probably Butler’s I guess since they kind of have the same features and skill-set.
Butler hasn’t necessarily lighting the world on fire.

  • plunkhead

Reggie is a lot brighter then that. He will put some more beef on the line so he can plug different RB’s in, like what bellacheat does.
The screwup was the switch to zone and back to begin with.

  • Just Fire Baby

Bring back the Knapp and Reece show!!!!

  • 10centsworth

I left when he went back and didn’t screw the cute junior.

  • The_Judge37

The system change was for more than just McFadden. All the lineman sucked at ZBS too.

  • plunkhead

    rock, paper, scissors?

  • MaddenRaider

Does anyone know if the game sold out? They said that if it sells out, it will be on a regular tv station along with NFL network. And, if so, anyone know which station in Sacramento will carry it? Listings have zilch.

  • HayesDaze37

I will be nice to see Menelik Watson and Wiz2.0 on the field together. Especially when Veldheer comes back.
There is OL talent here. Once again though, continuity (and experience…which only comes from being on the field) are all-important. Without it, young talent devolves into wasted potential.

  • plunkhead

    The sellout clause was lifted

  • R8erEduc8er

DMC is saving himself for the 2nd half of the season to play for a 2nd contract somewhere. He wants to be healthy for when it really matters (for him)…at the end of the season.

  • MaddenRaider

The article at NFL.com said that if it sold out, it would be broadcast locally as well as on NFL network. I really just want to know what channel it would be on in Sac.

  • Just Fire Baby

What would a franchise appease that type of selfish behavior?

  • Just Fire Baby

Will probably be an oddball local one, since CBS isn’t sending a crew, and I can’t see them splicing the NFLN broadcast.
I wouldn’t think Fox, NBC or ABC could just add an NFL game without some type of payout to the NFL.
    Broadcasting rights and ish.

  • plunkhead

Nice theory except dm has never ever been healthy at the end of the season

  • 10centsworth

Any coach/GM under the gun looking for a quick fix. Awarding selfish behavior is common in pro sports. He has a name and a mystical rep. A few “I was misused” articles and he’d sell seats.

  • loyal

Agree 100%. Dmac seems like a great guy and looks like he is made of steal…… but hasn’t lived up to his potential. We need the next Marcus Allen or AP. Who was our last great RB? Charlie Garner was good, Harvey Williams was not. We need a game breaker.

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lee_Higgins RaiderRockstar

switching systems and making McFadden (3.3ypc) the centerpeice of your offense also helps make the case for Reggie’s ineptitude. Doesn’t it? Who was Knapp supposed to benefit? Palmer? lol

  • Thec

    Convert DMAC to WR

  • RaiderGuy50

you’ve summed my feelings on him as well and I have his jersey. But this last injury, has put me over the edge.
If he comes back in 2 weeks- no problem. I think if its a 6 to 8 week hammy- use him for rest of season as a #2 and keep him around if numbers are right — if not- see ya

  • 10centsworth

    Maybe a public access channel?

  • MaddenRaider

I was thinking probably that alternate comcast sports channel that is always off the air, but that wouldn’t be “over the air”, as it were. That’s a cable station. I’d be fine with that because I have it, but I hope it’s on a regular t.v. station, so everyone can watch.

  • R8erEduc8er

He’s “hurt”. What can he do about it? That’s his excuse. End the season on a good note and someone will sign him. After all, he played for the Raiders with no line and no other weapons. That’ll be his agent’s spin on it.

  • JLofty

I would say there is an almost nil chance of it airing on a local broadcast cbs network. That’s primetime sunday night.if you ran the network affiliate would you air a raider game over 60 minutes and CSI Tulsa or whatever tf they have on tv then?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Dissing the neck? The last Raider RB to throw and run for a TD in the same game before 20?

  • 10centsworth

He ain’t getting beat up. Toes, hamstring, knees.
