Still no McFadden, though Reece looks better

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, October 3rd, 2013 at 11:59 am in Oakland Raiders.

ALAMEDA — Running back Darren McFadden is nowhere to be seen on the practice field today. Rashad Jennings is the one taking all the reps with the first-team offense in case he is the one called upon against the San Diego Chargers.
McFadden left the game against the Washington Redskins after only five carries on Sunday. He suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the game and wasn’t able to make it past halftime.
On the bright side for the Raiders, fullback Marcel Reece (knee) looks as if the knee he injured against the Redskins isn’t bothering him too much, if at all.
Cornerback Charles Woodson returned to practice today after he missed Wednesday’s proceedings for what coach Dennis Allen termed a non-football reason.
Center Stefen Wisniewski is on the practice field today. However, he is just watching as his teammates go through their paces.
For now, Andre Gurode is the starting center as long as Wisniewski isn’t able to play. Lamar Mady is the backup in the middle.
Allen and the Raiders are hopeful that Wisniewski will heal well enough and in time to play against the Chargers.
Rookie Menelik Watson is taking reps at left offensive tackle today, with the second-team. Khalif Barnes still is the starter at that position.
Once Watson returns, it’s conceivable that he will push Barnes out of the left tackle spot, with Barnes moving either to right tackle or one of the guard spots.
Wide receiver Andre Holmes is practicing for the second straight day as he works his way back into form after a four-game suspension.
The Raiders have until Saturday afternoon to decide whether to activate Holmes to the 53-man, active roster. If so, they need to cut a player to make room.
If Allen opts to go without Holmes for the Chargers game, the Raiders have to make a roster move Monday if they intend to keep Holmes around, which is likely.

    Blasphemy,

  • MaddenRaider

NFL.com said it would air “over the air” as well as on NFL network if sold out. They said it. The game is at 830pm. 60 minutes is usually on earlier.

  • RealTruRaider

And there is some truth to that, but injuries will hold him back from getting big deal anywhere including here

  • Thec

    FREE JURON

  • The_Judge37

    U mean Juron Schilenz

  • R8erEduc8er

Yea, I don’t see him getting a big deal. He got his big deal with his rookie contract, pre-rookie scale. He just wants a 2nd contract and he’ll get it. To be honest, the way we were running him + the way he was crashing into unblocked defenders = an early trip to the IR.

  • MaddenRaider

Just quoting the article. Just trying to find out which station if it is on. I’m guessing if it were, it would be on one of the additional digital channels of the CBS affiliate. One of those “MEtv” stations, “Ion”, whatever.

  • JLofty

The local affiliates have final say. Their choices are to air a diff nfl game earlier in the day and keep sunday nite primetime in tact or put an infomercial on at 1pm and show RAIDERS at 9. Maybe but I doubt it….

  • plunkhead

DMAC seems to be a good guy who is trying to protect his body so he will play in the NFL for a long time. He plays hard and practices hard. He is a good team mate.
He just seems to take a long time to recover, probably because he does not want any needles stuck in him and I don’t blame him.
He will make a million dollars a year for the next 4-6 years and can be a great fit on a SB type team. Someone that needs an extra weapon for maybe ten touches a game. Nothing up the middle and dmac might stay healthier

  • Just Fire Baby

Doubt it would be on a “regular” TV station, but this is all new.
I’m thinking of those funky local stations that carry the preseason games.

  • 10centsworth

You could bring back Jim Brown for that.

  • The_Judge37

I think it’s just his tiny Calfs can’t support him and his running style.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    What’s up, Oh Infrequent One?
It’s a Beautiful Day to be a Raider Fan.
As fun as it is at times to think of our coaching staff as bumbling idiots(NFL tradition) I gotta think they’re smart enough to have considered and planned for DMac’s inevitable down time.

  • Just Fire Baby

Big deal? He will be lucky to get ANY guaranteed money in his next contract.
    1 or 2 year, incentive laden,non-guaranteed contract.
RB’s don’t get paid in FA, it is very rare.
Especially injury-prone, 1 good year of 6 guys.

  • MaddenRaider

Those additional digital channels, like “MEtv”, etc. I’m thinking that. Of course if it is on one of those it won’t be HD.

  • plunkhead

Jim cant run a 4.5 40. I think dmac still can

  • Just Fire Baby

But is CBS going to “Air” the NFLN network feed with the NFLN advertising and promoting and such?
I say no chance in hell.

  • Just Fire Baby

You don’t seem to have the best cable options there, time for an upgrade.

  • plunkhead

His 7 baby mamas will vouch for his creative skills

  • 10centsworth

These big contracts that get you stuck. The Cowboys were WAY ahead on the curve. I had a buddy played for the Girls for 14 years. They made their money STRICTLY on incentives and getting into the playoffs. The rest? League minimums.

  • Just Fire Baby

Just heard on ESPN radio that Freeman is reportedly in “no hurry” to sign anywhere.

  • Just Fire Baby

So when Chip Kelly goes 3-13 this year does he get year two?
Or does he just bolt back to college?

  • R8erEduc8er

Agreed. Barnes should stay on the left side at LG when Veldeer returns. Watson at RT.

  • Thec

    Aw come on….

  • r8eray

If I were Reggie I would inquire about a possible trade for :

    B. Tate
    L. James

    L. Blount
    M. Ingram
    R. Turbin
    R. Williams
    M. Leshoure
    F. Jones
    P. Hillis

  • Thec

    Gets 2 easy

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Frickin Comcast broadcasts, so to speak, out of Sactown and into the black out zone but also to me, 175 miles from Oakland. So I get blacked out as well.

But they can target a particular area code with commercials.
I don’t think they try very hard.

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lee_Higgins RaiderRockstar

lure LeBron James to Oakland, Reggie! GM of the year!

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    CSI Podunk.

“Yep, I reckon he’s dayed, all right.” Case closed.

  • plunkhead

He is doing some me time with Aldon. He is keeping a diary, making meetings and learning to express himself in art class

  • The_Judge37

He could teach Mike Brisel how to be fall on his back properly

  • 10centsworth

To make him behave, they renewed his Ritalin.

  • 10centsworth

For sure. At least let them trip over you.

  • Just Fire Baby

With him being cut, Tampa had to eat and accelerate his salary, paid in full.
So his bad behavior just got him rewarded with like a 5 million dollar paycheck, probably.
I hope he isn’t dead by the end of the month.

  • plunkhead

That will buy a lot of ritalin

  • RaidingTexas

Let’s get Duck’s thoughts on that. Duck? Where are you?

  • HayesDaze37

Good day, my Raiders friend. I read much…don’t post much, though. Too much silliness sometimes, and I’ve got a life.
Planning for DMC going down — and actually have it happen — are different things. Just like QB’s do, starting RB’s get most snaps…especially practicing scripted plays for that week’s game.
When DMC goes down, there is a HUGE change in game-planning, consistency (ha), speed/adjustments, and so on…
All Players get hurt. DMC gets hurt (seemingly) all the time. We should plan for it better…by practicing other RB’s more.

  • MaddenRaider

lol. Are you a cable salesman now?

  • MaddenRaider

McFadden has been frustrating to watch. Down on first contact. Always.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

That was as anti Palmer a move as they could’ve made. Should have traded him then and gone with Lienart, for all it mattered.

  • plunkhead

He will have to move his family out of state soon so I suspect some bigtime program like USC makes him an offer he cant refuse. Five mill a year, mansion on campus, butt kissing machine on every corner, etc.
I say he bolts at the end of the year

  • MaddenRaider

“I got nervous and kilt him. Mmm hmm.”

  • Mike_Trail

    @ChrisHansenNFL

Olson was notified Freeman was released coming of the practice field. That’s probably more interesting than his comments.

We already have a TE! 4 to be exact.

    Kasa
    Mustard
    Rivera
    Ausberry

    Pass!

    D&D sequel coming.

Lets not start trying to get all “Logical” and Stuff Ray……

I think you will be surprised

    With Darren McFadden
missing practice Wednesday with his strained right hamstring, the
Chargers might be able to key more on Pryor as a running threat.
    =======================

    I’m not following…

  • RealTruRaider

None of those RB’s will do any better than DMC running behind this oline, we should be talking about OG’s and/or C
