Still no McFadden, though Reece looks better

ALAMEDA — Running back Darren McFadden is nowhere to be seen on the practice field today. Rashad Jennings is the one taking all the reps with the first-team offense in case he is the one called upon against the San Diego Chargers.
McFadden left the game against the Washington Redskins after only five carries on Sunday. He suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the game and wasn’t able to make it past halftime.
On the bright side for the Raiders, fullback Marcel Reece (knee) looks as if the knee he injured against the Redskins isn’t bothering him too much, if at all.
Cornerback Charles Woodson returned to practice today after he missed Wednesday’s proceedings for what coach Dennis Allen termed a non-football reason.
Center Stefen Wisniewski is on the practice field today. However, he is just watching as his teammates go through their paces.
For now, Andre Gurode is the starting center as long as Wisniewski isn’t able to play. Lamar Mady is the backup in the middle.
Allen and the Raiders are hopeful that Wisniewski will heal well enough and in time to play against the Chargers.
Rookie Menelik Watson is taking reps at left offensive tackle today, with the second-team. Khalif Barnes still is the starter at that position.
Once Watson returns, it’s conceivable that he will push Barnes out of the left tackle spot, with Barnes moving either to right tackle or one of the guard spots.
Wide receiver Andre Holmes is practicing for the second straight day as he works his way back into form after a four-game suspension.
The Raiders have until Saturday afternoon to decide whether to activate Holmes to the 53-man, active roster. If so, they need to cut a player to make room.
If Allen opts to go without Holmes for the Chargers game, the Raiders have to make a roster move Monday if they intend to keep Holmes around, which is likely.

Aus is on IR, only one I have seen worth anything is Rivera

who did DMAC have on the O-Line under Hue Jackson that isn’t currently here? Veldheer, Wiz, Barnes …. just guys like Samson Satele & Cooper Carlisle? well shoot man. re-sign Coop for vet min and trade a late rounder to Indy for the return of Samson the barbarian. Me thinks there is more to it. Either that or you have to credit the Cable guy

LisFranc wrecked Darren McFadden. the end

  • Maverick

Hope McFadden makes it back. Big divisional game we can definitely win.

Mav makes a blog appearance? whoa!

  • Maverick

Must’ve been better utilization/coaching. I mean look at CJ Spiller last year compared to this year. New coach, suddenly looks like crap

  • RealTruRaider

They opened up holes at least, watch the film, these guys are horrible, I think it has some to do with Veld being out, it cause a snow ball effect, its a cluster fk of an oline that can’t blow anyone off the ball

  • Maverick

McFadden still the best runner we have now (although I wouldn’t mind seeing Reece get a few more touches)

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lee_Higgins RaiderRockstar

I don’t think anybody in Buffalo misses Chan Gailey, but you’d have to ask Bcz – he lives near there

  • RealTruRaider

    Yep

  • r8eray

    Mike…are you Pirate Mike?

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lee_Higgins RaiderRockstar

DMAC has like nine 100 yard games in 5 years, gents. He’s not the messiah. Pretty sure those fat slugs like Ron Dayne, Bam Morris & Natrone Means did better than that

  • r8eray

Took the Browns (2 team parlay) -3.5 and the under 41.
    UCLA to cover
    and
    Dodgers under

  • RealTruRaider

No one saying he is, but if ya’ll think another RB will come in here and do much better are kidding yourselves, we need this oline to get healthy quick or else its going to be more of the same

  • Jayhawk_Raider

Cable is a dam good O line coach, look at Seattle.

  • Jayhawk_Raider

Reece is the best runner we have, this coaching staff just doesn’t realize it yet.

  • I AM RAIDER

there are 3-4 holes a game..the rest is just a cloud of dust..this line is ok against the pass but that dont get ANY push up the middle at all

  • Rico Stifler

Reggie didn’t hire Knapp and switch the system. That is all on DA. HE wanted Knapp at OC and HE wanted to run the ZBS.

  • RealTruRaider

Now you sound like the doc lol

  • RealTruRaider

    Exactly

  • Rico Stifler

McFadden is unlikely to get a big contract with any team. He might sign for maybe 5M more than what Bush signed with the Bears last year

  • I AM RAIDER

very disappointed about Ausberry..i called him baby gates the moment he was drafted…finally gets his shot..then he gets RUSHED to IR….

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lee_Higgins RaiderRockstar

Joe Aska has better vision than McFadden

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Kind of surprised not to see Coop. Guess he just didn’t have a year, or even part of one left in him.

JFB apparently puts a lot of stock in what Shaun King says. Called Josh Freeman a drug abuser, even though he passed all his drug tests. Well, King also called Darren McFadden a “check casher” so … can we take that to the bank as well ??

  • I AM RAIDER

wow…harsh….funny…. but not true…mcfadden cant see better than a runner with a blind eye??? lol
i know where you are coming from.Mcfadden has a little Justin “i run straight who cares about the hole” Fargas..but he isnt THAT bad

  • Rico Stifler

I am hoping that we bolster the OL in FA, hoping Mack and Asamoah, to both better protect whoever our new QB is going to be in 2014 and beyond, hoping for Carr or Cousins, as well as open more holes for whoever our new starting RB is going to be, hoping for Ben Tate.

  • r8eray

Speaking Thursday, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Darren McFadden (hamstring) could play Sunday against the Chargers even if he doesn’t practice this week.
Allen is just trying to confuse the issue. Players almost never play without practicing, and there’s been nothing to suggest DMC is close to a return. Rashad Jennings, and perhaps Marcel Reece, will carry the rushing load against San Diego.

Oh yeah, we have a turrible coaching staff…..

    Lovie Smith in 2014…..

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lee_Higgins RaiderRockstar

Purvis – logical choice would have been to sign Cooper Carlisle the day his contract became non-guaranteed (after week 1), especially with Nix & Bergs injured / Brisiel & Gurode blowing goats

  • MaddenRaider

Had to go to Dolt country to get an answer on the t.v. situation. Anyone interested:

“In Oakland, the game will air on KRON MyNetwork TV, a network owned by Fox.”

    http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/Oct/03/sports-media-column/2/

Not sure if this includes the MyNetwork stations in other Raider markets.

  • I AM RAIDER

Say what you want about DMAC he is EASILY our best RB now and we need him….

  • 10centsworth

“shout out”? Boy, you think you are hep? Rad? Bad?
More like a wannabe DJ on Mixing With The Acne Crowd…
Oh, You didn’t mention how your wanger is doing? The pills help?

    Josh Dubow‏@JoshDubowAP23h

If McFadden can’t play Sunday, Janikowski will be only one of #Raiders top 10 cap hits on field (others hurt, Flynn or dead money)

    Great job Reg!!!!!

  • KoolKell

If they’re just going to ask the RB to plow up the middle, they should use Jennings for that.

  • Tyler Miller

He lives in Oklahoma City…ole Aska

  • 10centsworth

hmmmm. Get him out of the way. I’ll take Reese. Maybe they’ll use him…again.

  • MaddenRaider

He’s averaging a whopping .3 yards per carry more than Jennings. That’s a decimal in front of the 3.

  • Just Fire Baby

    Yes.
But on a side note, Shaun King gained like 100+ pounds since his playing days, and looks like Jamie Dukes now.
So maybe he is just a bitter fat guy now.

  • Just Fire Baby

Is MyNetwork those stations that carry the WB and show Chappelle show reruns at 1am?

  • MaddenRaider

    Adam 12 marathon, more likely.

  • Just Fire Baby

    Josh Dubow‏@JoshDubowAP2 Oct

#Raiders have allowed 0 runs of 20+ yds so far after giving up more than 1 of those a game last 7 years (116 in 112 games)

    Keep Tarver, fire everyone else.

  • I AM RAIDER

AND… Jennings cannot provide game changing plays…nor is he the weapon out the backfield..
cmon yall i know we are beat up and frustrated by Dmacs injury history..but acting like you would rather have R Jennings back there…cmon thats your frustration talking..not logic

  • Just Fire Baby

So a quirky local station I take it?
Seems to make the most sense, network rights and sponsors and all that, can’t see a big boy station weaksucking and taking some other networks feed.

  • Just Fire Baby

Anyone figure out what Monte Poole is doing now? Lots of local love on his next “gig”, only the “gig” seems to be some type of secret or something.
    Kind of curious.

  • MaddenRaider

You would just like your starting halfback, that is “easily” better than the backups, to average more than .3 yards per carry better than them.

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lee_Higgins RaiderRockstar

    not surprised

  • 10centsworth

He wrote his last column, tears in his eyes, forever grateful to the folks who hated him. On ComCast now, I think.

no…our o line has more to do with it than mcfadden..we saw what he can do with a REAL OC (H Jackson) which si lead the leauge in rushing…til of course he got hurt..believe me i dont think we should pay him a ton on of money to stay…cant stay on the field..but as of right now today.. we need him. Pryor is still developing and Jennings should be nothing more than a short yardage back
