Raiders to play in London in 2014

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, October 8th, 2013 at 11:59 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders will be one of three teams to play one of their eight regular-season home games in London’s Wembley Stadium, with the opponent and date yet to be determined, the NFL announced Tuesday.

Also playing home games in London will be the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons.

“We are excited to embrace this great opportunity to assist in building NFL popularity worldwide,’’ Raiders owner Mark Davis said in a statement released by the league.

Two Raiders players, defensive lineman Jack Crawford and offensive tackle Menelik Watson, are from the United Kingdom. Crawford was born in London and grew up there before moving to the United States in high school. Watson is from Manchester, moving to the United States to play college basketball.

The Raiders have played outside the United States five times since 1990, but never in a regular-season game.

The last time the Raiders played outside the United States was on Aug., 27, 2001, when they faced the Dallas Cowboys at Azteca Stadium.

And that’s your right. But no 357 fanboy here. I like to be a little more thorough at the QB position unless they suck after multiple years like Flynn. I know a lot of guys are not afforded a thorough look and that’s just the nature of the beast. I don’t jump to conclusions without looking at a body of work especially at QB. Just different approaches between you and I.

  • Nick Gancayco

He dint play much as a rookie because he missed most of camp with an injury and couldn’t crack the lineup. But he broke his ankle his second year which definitely put him behind. Bu the time he came back cruz had already broken out. Played good when given the chance last yr. this yr got hurt again in camp and they decided to cut ties

  • Raidersfan727

The KC pass rush worries me with our depleted O-line. Man I wish our offensive line were healthy… who knows what we could do. Anybody know the word on Veldheer?

  • The_Judge37

Out of the 3 QB’s Reggie is intersted in, only David Carr was on an NFL roster last year. So we can already rule him out of contention.
I think Pat White might be worse than Edwards, who also suck terriblely, so we might as well add him to the depth chart already

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Seems continious. That is smarter.

  • marks hair

continuous? I’ve never heard of these guys coming in before now..

  • marks hair

looking at these quarterbacks I have no idea why we’re even trying them out.. you can see them on film & know who they are. not to mention we are still in a rebuilding process and we would be better off playing McGloin if tp goes down..

  • The_Judge37

It’s because Reggie has absolutely NO IDEA what he’s doing when it comes to QB’s.

  • marks hair

    I have to agree..

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

He’s looking at guys all the time. Most get nothing but a tweet or two. Cheking out 3 QB’s will get more play. And the reason for it is obvious.

  • http://raiders.com/ whoknows

I have come to believe SnBS is Reggie’s houseboy.

  • Theghostronin79

I dunno…….But I’m looking at this list of teams KC has beaten this year, -same facial expression as when I walk into a Rest Stop Bathroom- and think…….”This is pretty F’kin RANK right here”
We gonna make Andy Reid’s face the same color as his Jacket.
“The BOOM” is coming to Arrowhead.

  • The_Judge37

They should just promote Wilson and roll with the Two Rookie back ups. Who cares about experience when the guys he’s planning to bring in are only expeirenced at sucking.

  • The_Judge37

Yeah, they haven’t beat anyone. Not like we have either but still, I’d say it’s pretty even. Our Oline is at a miss match with their front 7, but TP2 > Alex Smith.

  • marks hair

still don’t get it.. if a quarterback good enough to beat out the guys we have , he should have been brought in to compete earlier.. they can only hurt us now there’s no way they can help.. we have seen this stupid experiment before with Carson Palmer.

  • Theghostronin79

I think the Charger team we beat, is better than the Dallas team that THEY beat….
Yeah, splitting hairs……But I haven’t bought into them for a second this year, not one second.

  • The_Judge37

No, Dallas is way better than the Chargers. Rivers = Romo, but Dallas has better WR’s and RB.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

i’ve seen ‘em fold before and wouldn’t be surprised to see them at 5-5. We need to get the ball rolling for them.

  • marks hair

the chefs can rush the passer, run the ball and take care of the ball.. that’s enough to win some games..

  • The_Judge37

Its going to be about who’s defense plays better. I see both our offense and theirs being at a dissadvantage to the defenses. We have to stop the run and take away the short throws.

  • http://raiders.com/ whoknows

Let’s just face it Reggie may know a lot about cap space and collecting players who play hard on 1 year contracts but he doesn’t know jack about QBs.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Not disagreeing about the QB’s he’s looking at. Was disagreeing with your observation that he should have been holding tryouts month’s ago. He’s always looking at everybody available. How you think Pashos got here?

  • The_Judge37

    Or Offense in general.

  • Bobby Bushay

When Seattle brought in players every week and played musical chair with their roster two years ago or so, and now are considered one of the powerhouse teams of the NFL, the pundits were calling the roster moves brilliant. Reggie has made some mistakes, it is true, but the one thing that I see in the team that I like is motivation. How many on here have bemoaned the scholarship treatment? Too many to count. This is not a bad thing in the least, and if you continue to be true to improving your overall roster of players, this is a wise practice. Players who want to be here will step up and continue to play at a high level. Those that don’t, they will be shown the door (see Matt Flynn). I hope we see more of this type of thing and Big Mac finds a few diamonds in the rough.

  • marks hair

I can understand looking at running backs.. but qb? smh

  • Theghostronin79

I know they showed REALLY well against The Broncos, but I thought Dallas was just playing outta their minds.

  • marks hair

this sight is so fúcked.. im out till its working..

  • Raidersfan727

That same Dallas team lost to San Diego. I really think they just played out of their minds

  • Raidersfan727

we have to protect our quarterback. They lead the league in sacks, for a reason

  • The_Judge37

They’re more talented than the Chargers. I think SD just played out of thier minds when they beat em.

  • The_Judge37

Well we’re not going to protect him. Pryor is going to have to protect him self with his running and getting rid of the ball fast. Our only hope to protect him is a running game. Which is up in the air with Jennings and DMC out.

Breaking News!!!! Charles Woodson, S – Defensive player of the week

didn’t check it out, but he’s an ok poster.

  • The_Judge37

We need a damn Practice/injury update. Fk London.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Jenning’s won’t be out, and Reese filled in fine, although I don’t think everydown RB is Reese’s forte.

  • The_Judge37

Yeah he’s cool in spot duty, but i don’t see him being able to handle alot of carries. Espcially we’d need about 25 carries and 100+ yards take the pressure off Pryor.

  • R8erEduc8er

You guys act like he had a plethora of awesome QBs to choose from lol. He hasn’t even begun to work on offense personnel. Stay tuned.

  • http://raiders.com/ whoknows

Don’t know if he won or not but Giordano was in the running for NFC defensive player of the week.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000259639/article/afc-nfc-players-of-the-week-to-be-revealed-on-nfl-network

  • The_Judge37

Two years in and he still hasn’t begun to work on offense? Bad GM’ing

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

And Jeremy Stewart popped up on theRadar last week, didn’t he?

  • R8erEduc8er

I think it’s more about having a veteran to lean on in the study room, nuances of the game, etc. Alot of Qbs who had a less than spectacular career QBing turn out to be great QB coaches.

  • Theghostronin79

    Agree

  • http://raiders.com/ whoknows

Well he had an awesome QB right in front of him but instead he brought in a guy with a bad attitude and tendonitis.

  • bcz24

Pat White was outstanding in the preseason for Washington this year.

  • The_Judge37

Yeah but he got put down as soon as he popped up.

  • bcz24

You won’t hear a peep about him for another 2 weeks at least when he is eligible to resume practicing.

  • R8erEduc8er

Yea, with a strapped salary cap and no draft picks. I guess you’d like to see 22 new starters on O and D in 1.5 years.

  • SnBG

Disagree, D needed more attention and he has improved that. O will get better when he has picks next year and money to play with.

  • http://raiders.com/ whoknows

The key to beating the Chiefs will be special teams.

  • R8erEduc8er

TP was far from awesome week 17 last year.

  • hwnrdr

So…since our line is in shambles…what would TP2 have to do? The only 2 WRs that he seems to be fine with are DWow and Streetor
