Raiders fill vacancy on 53-man roster

Rather than add a third quarterback, the Raiders signed veteran defensive tackle Daniel Muir to their 53-man, active roster Wednesday.
This comes on the heels of the Raiders working out 13 players Tuesday, with none of those being Muir. Three of the 13 players worked out are quarterbacks — David Carr, Trent Edwards and Pat White.
It seemed logical that the Raiders would use the roster spot on a quarterback after they released veteran quarterback Matt Flynn on Monday.
For now, though, the Raiders are moving forward with Terrelle Pryor and undrafted rookie Matt McGloin as the only quarterbacks on their active roster. Rookie quarterback Tyler Wilson is on the team’s practice squad.
Muir, 30, played in 46 games for the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets during his first six NFL seasons. He started 26 of those games.
The Raiders also re-signed offensive tackle Jack Cornell and placed him on their practice squad.

Shocker, a guy that played for the Packers is signed by numb nuts RM.

  • bcz24

“Reece is a power back. He was able to give the Raiders some tough between the tackle runs but nothing more.” Uhh… I wonder if this guy actually watches football??

  • eastoaklandraider

I would be pissed if I was a season ticket holder and they moved a game to london, fck london let them come here if they wanna see a game. I mean let’s be honest there will never be a team over sea’s road trips would be too long.

  • eternal pessimist

they’re talking about a possible NFL team over there. They’d have to have interim facilities over here though too. wouldn’t make sense without it. costs would be a B*tch tho.

So yesterday in the chat I was peppering Cork about the bu QB.
I’m thinking Carr would be crunchy toast with our Oline. But he was adament.
Pat White seems like a solid scheme fit but he’s never started a NFL game in his life and barely ever played in one.
Trent Edwards, been there, done that, see David Carr…
I’m still thinking Young or even Teblow are better options. VYoung must have some kind of social disease….

  • Oaktown Raiders

Despite his size, Reece is a finesse back at the most. That guys mistaking my boy for Jennings.

  • JLofty

I have found almost no one beyond the local press (and the semi’s of course) actually watches Raiders football. They say the dumbest $#it…

  • JLofty

Ok so whotf is the backup QB? Past McGloin that is…

  • The_Judge37

Out of the 3 that worked out here, Carr is the best fit. Neither 3 would be a better option over McGloin at #2. But at least Carr is a long time veteran who has seen alot in the NFL, granted he’s mostly seen the turf, but still.

  • CVRaider

And what about the workers at the coliseum who rely on 8 checks per year to work? This extra income for many pays for Christmas presents or bills they otherwise can’t afford. Screw them, let’s give that job to some British soccer fan? And will season ticket prices drop? I’m betting not. It’s all a joke! Mark is a sellout and needs to grow a pair like his father. Don’t bite the hands that feed you. AL cared about the Raiders and the nation. That is now gone.

  • 10centsworth

Maybe I got this thing all wrong. you know…the Raider Attitude thing. Maybe it doesn’t exist anymore. Till I’m convinced, I ask this. Show me a lick of Raider attitude in Tebow. Our version of the anti christ, if you ask me.

These Clowney smokescreen articles crack me up! GMs scared to draft him rumors are going around like crazy. LMAO!!! Any GM would pick this guy up and not think twice about it, especially with the rookie cap!
He will be the TOP 1 or 2 pick in this draft. WHo else has more upside besides Johnny Football. Now Johnny may scare a little bit but it’s hard to pass on talent.

gee, on my screen you’re last.

  • JLofty

Hope McFadden’s hammy lets him suit up. Seeing how he’ll be the emerg QB….

The kid plays HARD, gotta admit that…

  • Chad Dameworth

    Darren McFadden makes sense?

  • CJ Legend 34

I guess this means that Matt McGloin is looking real good at the #2 and Tyler Wilson is practicing his tail off. They seem to have confidence in what they have at QB.

  • hwnrdr

I agree…I have to eat a game next year!

  • Goldie7

Unbelievable! Who is going to be No. 3 QB? Are we in for a surprise or something?

You don’t pay for it though right?

Good read. This guy might as well be a Raider beat writer.

I’ll take what we got Sunday. In particular, the D front seven. I’m a loyal fan but I’d puke if they brought in Tebow. Imagine the fan then sitting next to you. 20,000 more “born agains” holding up “John 3:14″ signs. Prayer meetings at the tailgates. Holy HayZeus, you’re making me ill.

  • CVRaider

How many American players (which is probably 95% of the NFL) will want to play in Europe? Will a free agent really want to go to Europe? If there ever is a team there, it will be full of draft picks (playing out their rookie contracts) and free agents that weren’t offered contracts by real NFL teams.

  • hwnrdr

I’m not sure. I heard from some 49er fans a few years ago when they “hosted” a London game that they had to pay for that ticket.

HOW DO YOU DEFEND PRYOR , THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE IN OAKLAND?

blitz and rushing often may be your best bet due to the state of oakland o line. Although you will be burned by pryor making people miss, you could also hope to get enough penetration to disrupt the pocket, as the line is in complete shambles currently. This of course changes dramatically as wiz, watson and veldeheer return

Certainly dropping back into zone is proving a quick route to embarrassment as pryor is demonstrating incredible pocket passing skills that rival the best in the nfl.

When pryor had a chance to drop back and go through his reads he was both decisive and surgically cold reminiscent of the way veterinarians euthanize a stray dog

pryor un-pressured was 12-14 for 160 yards on sunday that is a mind bending 85% folks!!!! this flies in the face of all of the bs that said he couldnt read defense or be an accurate passer. pryor is the true definition of the wave of the future.

The best part of pryors game though isnt just his ability to cloak himself then reappear making improv plays, it isnt even his outstanding pocket passing drop back qb skill.

The best part of pryor game isnt his force of will and ability to impact and lead his team mates like a four star general, impervious to distraction rumor or internal dissent.

No pryor greatest attribute is the clutch gene. pryor is at his best in the most crucial situations. he is on fire on 3rd down and in the fourth quarter this season.

    3rd down cmp % 71.8 rating of 109.

    4th quarter cmp% 74.4 rating of 97.6

read those numbers again, chew on them a bit and analyze the flavor of greatness

these gaudy eye popping numbers offer irrefutable proof of pryors uncanny knack for rising above the field and carrying his team over his opponents.

pryor is amazing and even allen had to finally admit “im glad he is our qb”

  • The_Judge37

Or it means they have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Could go either way on this one.

  • DKnight007

Agreed! The Clowney smokescreen articles trying to quesiton is work ethic and drop his draft stock are hilarious. He is a top 3 pick if not the top pick in the 2014 Draft!

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    You’re funny.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    He’s a tight end.

  • hwnrdr

I just read that he is practicing with the “ones” today! Funny because Jerry Mac called DMAC and Jennings the “Hamstring Twins” LMAO!!!

  • hwnrdr

And he also had a 135.something rating Sunday night!

  • bcz24

When you buy a season ticket package you buy all 10 tickets. Buffalo has to give up a home game to Toronto every year, but their season ticket holders still have to pay for that game (even though they don’t get a ticket for it in their season tix package!!!)

  • Raiderkoolaid

I would be afraid to draft Clowney high in the first round because if he doesn’t have a deep desire to go out and compete now, then what will happen after he signs a big contract and has money in the bank. I would jump on him in the second though, hoping to be getting a bargain.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

It’s like the biker paradigm. Old people used to be afraid of those young bikers. Today’s youth are afraid of those old bikers.

  • Raider O

    What about S McGee?

  • 2romes

There was no sense in bringing in Carr and Trent into this squad. It would have been a waste of energy and time. Wilson and Mcgloin are far better choices in my opinion. If they did not get Josh as a BACKUP there was no time to waste on these two QB’s mentioned above.

  • 10centsworth

Boy. we got from a totally iffy “Do we HAVE a qb” to angst over who is 3rd string? I can see the value of having a vet on the team, but…this?

  • nolimits3333

We have three quarterbacks. We don’t need another one.

  • bcz24

Pat White is a perfect compliment to TP. Olson wouldn’t have to adjust the offense at all in the event he had to start a game. The guy looked phenomenal during camp/preseason for the Skins

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Rozelle was every bit as complicit.
