Raiders waive DT Bilukidi, claim LB off waivers

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013 at 2:40 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders waived defensive lineman Christo Bilukidi this afternoon and claimed off waivers linebacker Martez Wilson from the New Orleans Saints.
Bilukidi was from the 2012 draft class that has failed to yield any sure-fire starters. Linebacker Miles Burris flourished last season after an injury to Aaron Curry, but he hasn’t been cleared to practice yet after offseason knee surgery.
Wilson, 25, played in four games for the Saints this season and 33 during his three seasons for New Orleans. He is 6-foot-4 and 252 pounds and played collegiately at Illinois.
Bilukidi, 23, appeared in five of Oakland’s six regular-season games this year. He recorded five tackles during spot duty as a backup. He played in 13 games as a rookie, when he notched eight tackles.

Martez who? There aren’t any OL who could help us more than a LB right now?

  • RaiderDebo

Kind of like the guy. Real tall linebacker out of Illinois. Did some nice things early on at NO, but must’ve fallen out of favor with the new defensive staff. Think he can rush the passer.

  • michael

Dee Millner, S. Floyd were picks everybody thought we should get….. look at them now, hardly playing. Seems like a crap shoot to me!

Interesting move…. Reggie making moves… How about an o-linemen….. Reggie working hard under that candid light fixture in IHOP….

Dunno if Reg personnel decision making on offense is at an adequate level. I have yet to see any draft choices or free agents decision since his arrival regarding the offense that would cause me to say that Reg is doing a good job as GM. I mean c’mon, Streater is his “blind squirrel finding a nut” pick, and that’s the extent of his offensive choice making a contribution.

  • The_Judge37

Forget “Building through the Draft”, Reggie’s building through Waivers.

  • JOn Wooah

Martez can play DE, Pass rusher, and LB.. think of a Raw athletic type like SIO moore.. should be able to make some things happen.

    Was with DA in NO..

  • Al_is_theraiders

    yeah…shrek knows talent….

Re: Martez Wilson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJxypHAvcLA Most of this is pretty pedestrian, and on his sacks and qb pressures it mostly seemed like he was a blitzer who isn’t picked up as opposed to making moves to beat someone. (Nice closing speed and a hard hit on Ponder, though.) BUT, the video saves the best for last, a strip sack and recovery off Alex Smith to go with his strip sack and recovery off Phillip Rivers. Those two guys won’t have forgotten Wilson, and I couldn’t think of a better two guys to say that about. Good pickup!

  • The_Judge37

Actually, everyone thought we should get Star or a Ansah

  • 0ak R8rs

The haters r gonna be all over Reggie for his “miss” on bilokidi. But as far as in concerned we just traded a 6th for a 3rd straight up. It’s not always the pick, but what you generate from that pick that counts. Trade, waiver or cut. Doesn’t matter to me.

And still, nobody is safe. Including the imaginary group of “Reggie’s guys”.

  • Davy Jones
  • The_Judge37

Either way, we dumped a 6th round pick and picked up a former 3rd round pick. So it can’t be a bad move unless one of our DT’s goes down.

  • 0ak R8rs

There it is. Douche bag cowboy fan troll w an agenda alert.

  • Al_is_theraiders

hate to say it told you so but….

“Bilukidi was from the 2012 draft class that has failed to yield any sure-fire starters.”

  • 0ak R8rs

Fair to a point. But bergstrom and Watson r hurt. Both would be starting if healthy most likely. And Murray is hurt too. Can’t fault a guy for not predicting season ending IR. He’s had some bad breaks on the offensive side of the draft.

  • 0ak R8rs

You mean the 2012 draft where our first pick was #99 thanks to Al and Hue and Mark?

And bergstrom would be starting. And Burris would be in the rotation.

  • Al_is_theraiders

the practice squad all pro selector….

  • R8derdiehard

Just saw jay Ratliff from the cowgirls may be available he wouldn’t be a bad pickup at DT

  • KoolKell

Cut Bilikudi????? Wow. For a Linebacker where we’re already strong????

  • Nick Gancayco

Damn Martez Wilson ran a 4.49 at the combine. At 6’4 250 thats fast a fvck. Hopefully we get something out of him

  • SnBG

I see the haters are here to trash every little tiny thing Reg does. How utterly petty of them. Nit pickers all to a fault.

  • The_Judge37

No guarantee they’d be starting if everyone was healthy. Also “Starting” on this team doesn’t mean they’re Good.

  • SnBG

    You’re such a girl.

  • SnBG

BTW, Brisiel is getting some good press. Dkwad

  • KoolKell

    I thought Bilukidi played well…………………….

  • Davy Jones

6’4″, 252 and a 4.49? Somewhere Al Davis is smiling.

  • KoolKell

    Stacey McGee is already hurt.

  • The_Judge37

Happy as Reggie in a Pancake Buffet

  • KoolKell

Patt Simms has been injury prone.

  • SnBG

Real men eat at pancake buffets. You wouldn’t know that being a little girl.

just saw the strip-sack of Rivers. That was the game SD left tackle Gaither didn’t take himself out during the last drive despite injuring himself. He promptly gave up that game-ending sack. At least Martez shows an under dip move on that sack.

  • Raider Al from Atlanta, Ga

He will not be injury free until 2014. He can’t get cleared to practice or play.
