Allen does admirable job keeping tabs on locker room culture

By Steve Corkran
Monday, November 4th, 2013 at 2:04 pm in Oakland Raiders.

ALAMEDA – Raiders coach Dennis Allen has been vigilant about the culture of his team’s locker room since he arrived here almost two years ago.
To that end, he said Monday, whatever takes place amongst his players, be it in the locker room, on the field, wherever, is his responsibility.
“We have a pretty good feel for the locker room,” Allen said, when asked how he keeps tabs on his players.” I have a pretty good feel for the guys we have in there. Obviously that’s something that you always want to keep a close eye on and keep monitored.”
The topic was broached in light of recent allegations leveled against Miami Dolphins guard Richie Incognito that he bullied and harassed teammate Jonathan Martin.
Martin took a leave of absence from the Dolphins last week reportedly as a result of the way Incognito treaded him in the past. The Dolphins on Sunday suspended Incognito while the matter is investigated.
“I don’t think we have any issues with that type of stuff on this football team,” Allen said.
Allen even banned the so-called hazing prevalent in NFL training camps, including the Raiders before he arrived before the start of the 2012 season.
“That was a point we tried to make in training camp of not really hazing the rookies because we need everybody,” Allen said. “If we’re going to get this culture the right way and if we’re going to win football games like we believe we’re capable of winning, we’re going to need everybody in that locker room.”
Allen frequently chats with key players and others as a means of taking the pulse of the locker room and making sure a situation such as the one alleged to have happened in Miami doesn’t arise here.
In the end, though, Allen said, it’s incumbent upon Allen to stay abreast of what’s going on with his team.
“Ultimately whatever happens with this football team, whether it be on the field, in the locker room, out in the community, …that’s my responsibility to police that and my responsibility to have a handle on that.”

No way Whack-a-Mole even went to the game. And I don’t think anyone took him up on the once in a lifetime chance to meet him in person. Never would happen.

  • SnBG

Sure, that’s what we need, another guy on the sidelines wearing a suite and tie just to pump his image up. Del Rio. Not going to happen.

  • MaddenRaider

Reggie McKenzie, who was hired by Mark Davis, who Al Davis left the team to, did not want a head coach that would constantly politic and try to assume GM duties. I believe in the long run we’ll be better off for it.

  • The_Judge37

It must be a lot easier when you’re a natural born loser. For the rest of us, we take losses hard.

  • Dakota

Smoke and mirrors, KC isn’t as good as their record, especially offensively. Luck and the Colts just did what they always do, play down to their competition, Rivers had an off game, the Steelers just suck, the Jags?
The only thing that has changed is our cap situation, which is a good thing, but personally, I think it is time for Reggie to admit that his first hire as a HC is an uninspiring flop.

  • MaddenRaider

Smoke and mirrors vs. excuse city.

  • Dakota

How many records does a Tarver lead defense need to set before people wake up? Already gave up the most points in the team’s history over a certain game span last year, and now his defense allowed a no-named backup QB to set an NFL record. What a mastermind!

  • Dakota

    lol

  • SnBG

Yes, panic hard like Pryor running for his life.

  • MaddenRaider

Al Davis knew he was dying, and had plenty of time to designate Hue Jackson or any of his people like Trask and Herrera as having significant roles with the team after he was gone. He wanted Mark in charge, and he put it in writing. So all these presumptions about how Hue was Al’s guy…I think Hue was a head coach that Al Davis had just promoted, and nothing more.

  • The_Judge37

Plus the fact it was Wilson’s performance against Tarver’s Defense in the Senior Bowl that prompted Reggie to Draft him.

  • rifflicks

what part of a Rebuilding the Team is so hard for you dim bulbs to understand???

  • KoolKell

Get a life of your own, creep. Yikes.
You cannot live your life vicariously through me……..not gonna get you anywhere……..understand?

  • rifflicks

OH Yeah….teams in a rebuilding phase go to the playoffs all of the time

  • Dakota

    Ouch!

  • The Beeeeech Dawg

Nerd, you need to take a huge duece to relieve some of that pent up stress and frustration

    Just keepin’ it realz

    DAWGGY STYLE

  • rifflicks

BOO HOO HOO ….if the Raiders don’t win every week I’m going throw a tantrum and demand everybody be fired

  • Dakota

Rebuilding…..fine…..then this is the phase where you fire your uninspiring POS HC and hire someone to get the most out of the players we are about to acquire with all that cap space.

  • seymour bush

Not you with Hue Jackson again. Puh-leeeeze. We are in this mess because of Hue the Loser.

  • SnBG

All we need is a pass rusher, a franchise QB, maybe an Olineman, some maturity and development from our draft picks a free agent or two and where golden. Chill you sissies.

  • MaddenRaider

Clearly you’re new to this blog.

  • PlunkforHOF

Though I’d to be present for you and Whack in a in person diss war.

  • rifflicks

just what are you pretending to be….like somebody cool or something…. nobody thinks youre special except your mom

  • rifflicks

thats not what you said a week ago when they won

  • The_Judge37

Whining about Whiners isn’t hypocritical at all.

  • Dakota

What did I say in DA’s favor after we won against the POS Steelers?

  • SnBG

He’s really a Justin Beber look alike that lives in the Burbs and pretends to be black.

  • rifflicks

    like you pretending you’re clever

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

Gee I wonder why you think that

  • TrevJo

So basically what every team wants and only about 8 of the teams in the league have, no problem!

  • The_Judge37

    LOL, pretty good comeback.

  • rifflicks

still lives with his mom too i bet

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

Of course we are…Please feel free to judge the performance of our offensive players, especially Veldeer & Wiz, before and after the new Reggime got here. I know, I know, the Grimmace apologists need to break out the “mess” excuse which included a .500 football as opposed to what they are giving us now. BTW, who are Grimmace’s building blocks again? Hayden? I guess we have a decent player in Sio and possibly Watson if he doesn’t end up with DMC disease

  • SnBG

Maybe if Woodson and Ross played better it wouldn’t have been so bad

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

If that’s the case then you give a QB more time than 8 starts to judge him, that is if you listen to NFL people as opposed to the Pryor Haters*

*Because I’m not intelligent enough to come with a better comeback.

  • SnBG

    Sissyy Priscilla, silly girl

  • rifflicks

Pryor experiment is a failure….he’s in his 3rd season and hasn’t got the skills for the job

  • SnBG

    Busted dude. Go home.

  • Davy Jones

“Don’t know if you can start writing a guy off seven games into his career”

Pretty sure you did that with Pryor. Just saying….

  • rifflicks

how long have you been playing pretend cool???

  • SnBG

    Exactly.

  • seymour bush

This team certainly needs a franchise pass rusher, a franchise QB, and some more playmakers on offense. Then, we will be set.

  • Marty Urias

We’ll be able to see what this team is made of on Sunday.
We’ve got to put it behind us and move on. Last week it was all about the playoffs. This week it’s “fire everyone”. Somewhere in the middle of that is who we are

  • SnBG

I’ll take a franchise QB and be very happy with that. The rest will come in time. Pryor is not the answer. We needed him yesterday and he let us down.

  • SnBG

    Oh Priscilla.

  • rifflicks

yeah….it was all about the playoffs in a rebuilding year

  • turf toe

    We need…things.
    We should do…stuff.
Next year, we should move…in a direction.
    Snnnnooooooore.
    Sameoldsameoldsameoldsameold.
    Raiders.

  • rifflicks

31 other teams to choose….good riddance

  • turf toe

I don’t understand the need for three question marks, Rifflicks. Do you overuse because they are free?

  • The_Judge37

All we need is a Franchise QB, A good RB, A #1 WR, A good Offensive Line, Good pass rusher, Playmaking LB, Shutdown corner, Ball hawking Saftey, Reliable kickers and sound coaching. Then we’ll be set.
